# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Little Canfield? Don't Start It

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then leave your motor off — and the ignition too.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

It does not burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does starts when the system draws it in.

If your motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally drained and thoroughly cleaned where the vehicle stands in Little Canfield.

Before anything, ring us on 0333 366 0103.

## Little Canfield, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do right away

Things to do:

- Take the keys out, and so nobody switches the ignition on.

- If you are anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- Keep the receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what got in and roughly how much.

- Give us a postcode starting CM6 4, or whichever street is nearest, and the van finds you directly — so call from wherever you stand.

Things not to do:

- Don't start your engine, even for a moment to move your car.

- Don't switch your ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- Adding more diesel doesn't work: AdBlue separates out rather than blending.

- Any driving at all is to be avoided, including a short distance along Flitchside Drive.

- Don't try to drain the vehicle yourself at the roadside.

On a forecourt around Little Canfield, whether it's the BP or another one, ask the attendants to help you roll your car clear of the pump.

If you're on your own drive, leave the car precisely where it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not your engine.

Stored in a separate tank, it is squirted into the exhaust stream to treat the gases.

Not one side suits the other: urea doesn't belong in a pump, and an injection pump can't take urea.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves very differently from fuel. It does not mix in.

Denser than diesel, it sinks and pools underneath it — the same spot the pickup draws from.

Easiest of all: one that had AdBlue in Puttocks End overnight and has not turned since. The liquid sits at the foot of that tank, undrawn — but it would be first through if the motor runs, before any diesel at all.

After it is pulled in, the damage comes in two forms.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it strands urea that hardens in filter elements and narrow passages; and, because it eats at certain metals, each part it touches suffers for as long as it remains in there.

A motor left sitting around Little Canfield with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank is not.

Diesel protects the injection pump and every injector as it flows; water offers no lubrication, and that is a separate form of harm.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Petrol put into a diesel on Tesco's forecourt makes the fuel thin — that's the whole fault.

No damage comes as long as it sits put, mixed into your diesel — only when your engine runs on it.

The trouble with AdBlue in a diesel is a completely wrong substance.

It cannot simply be run through, because it does not burn.

It doesn't stay mixed, so it can't be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your motor "to see" costs more here than almost anywhere else, whether the car is in Bambers Green or the middle of Little Canfield.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

If the engine has not run, the AdBlue is still in your tank, and the tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across Essex the vehicle is sitting.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Little Canfield?

Many cars place the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel one, now and then under one flap, and after dark the two may look the same. No one means it.

Most of the time it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

The ways it takes place are few and familiar.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside Takeley Primary School the refill is hurried.

Near Anderson Grove, a driver pours a container in on the drive in the evening.

Else, after dark by Lion and Lamb, the car gets refilled by someone using that flap the first time.

The least familiar vehicles see it the most — hire cars, brand-new ones, company ones, and the spare motor of a family with one of each fuels.

Keep it off: that is the first response to the same slip, wherever around Little Canfield or the remainder of Essex you are.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Little Canfield, and your engine started?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer inside your tank.

Through the fuel filter, along the lines, and — with any running — into the injection pump and every injector: that is where it travels.

Watch for rough running, exhaust smoke, falling power, warnings on your dash, or a cut-out — coming back from Runnel's Hey, say, or midway across Little Canfield.

Stop when safe. Turn off. Keep the car off instead of testing it again.

Every start pulls more of that through.

On the M11, under 3 miles from Little Canfield, the first junction is where to exit, and somewhere safe is where to stop — not driving on.

How far it went counts. A couple of hundred yards across Little Canfield to the car park by Priors Green Community Centre is a very different job from a run towards Chelmsford, under 15 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with every mile.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

Our engineers do all of the cleaning where your car has ended up, and once your engine has been run there is more of it.

Lasting damage is very uncommon when it's noticed quickly.

## Little Canfield: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

We come to the car, wherever it has stopped around Little Canfield: a side street near All Saints, Little Canfield, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Which fluid got in, roughly the quantity, and whether your engine has turned over: we ask before all else, because those shape the job.

Then your tank is cleared where the vehicle stands, and so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

A careful flush counts far more after AdBlue than with petrol, because residue won't wash out by itself.

Next, the filter: flushed, or replaced if it has to be. Then clean diesel, and then a check of the vehicle.

Roughly half an hour once we arrive is usual for most jobs where your motor has not run.

The pumping gear is explosion-proof, and so a busy forecourt is no issue, and it is hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

New diesel goes in to bleed the system, and that's the last step.

Then our engineers start it and you set off, whether from a parking bay by Stansted Airport or a driveway around Little Canfield.

Before we leave, our technicians check it's running properly with clean diesel in.

The whole job is done where your car is, so it never has to be taken to a garage.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers want.

## Little Canfield: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Since each jobs vary, a single figure would not be fair.

Three things move the cost: whether the motor has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the vehicle is. That last one rests on whether our van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight spot behind Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Dunmow.

Which fluid got in, what quantity, plus whether the engine ran: each Little Canfield call begins with precisely that, before a quote, never after.

With those replies, the range narrows to a single fixed figure.

You get that quote on the phone, before anybody heads out, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Look at your insurance while we're on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.
