# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Littletown: Why It Happens

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave the engine and your ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103.

Usually, when the engine hasn't turned, it's emptied and fully flushed where your car is around Littletown.

Not happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page explains the why it occurs and the how to avoid it altogether.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel car

Many newer diesels around Rawfolds, like those in Littletown, run on two liquids; your engine takes only your diesel.

AdBlue goes to your exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to fresh it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

There is a filler on each tank.

On a lot of vehicles the two sit side by side under the same flap; on others the AdBlue filler is in your boot or under the bonnet.

The diesel side is fuelled at the petrol pump all the time.

Rarely topped up, AdBlue normally comes out of a bottle, poured by someone who has to stop and think what cap it needs.

It is in that gap that the error lives.

## Littletown: how AdBlue in your diesel tank takes place

Carelessness rarely explains it. Instead is three things lining up at once.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low your car tells you, and if it runs out completely, the car drops into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off Bradford Road before work, or in the car park at Old Oak on the way home.

New-to-you cars come second, too. Rentals, new cars and company cars place their fillers in new places, and habit goes for the cap used on the old one.

A spout-topped bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. And so the tip, once started, carries on.

It's seconds, be it out in Knowler Hill or bang in the heart of Littletown.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

A couple of seconds is all these take — so run through them before you tip anything, on a driveway in Lower Popeley or a forecourt around Littletown.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally is not. Read it rather than going by position.

- Plenty of motors give AdBlue the smaller neck of the two.

- A label inside the fuel flap frequently shows which fuel goes where, on many vehicles. Check for it.

- In the boot or under the bonnet: that's where your filler is if it is not by your diesel cap, and the handbook says which.

- Collecting a hire or company car, perhaps at the car park at Dewsbury? Check with the person who drove it last before you set off, not once the light goes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in your diesel tank

The day the light goes on, anywhere across West Yorkshire, follow this routine.

- Pull in somewhere level, engine off, with time in hand — never hurried on the side of Carr Street.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it does the trick.

- If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — then leave the vehicle on.

- Finish once that tank is topped up or the bottle is empty; before that, tip gently using its own spout.

- Only after that, start the car: close the cap, check a second time, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

Find during the second or third stage that the bottle went in the wrong tank? That's where you stop.

Don't go on to step five.

## Put AdBlue in your diesel tank in Littletown already?

Do not start your engine: that's where the short order of things starts.

The fuel pump runs on plenty of diesels as soon as the ignition goes on — and so leave it off.

Topping up with diesel will not thin it: instead, AdBlue sinks to the base of that tank, just where fuel is taken from.

Ask the attendants to help push your car clear of the petrol pump if you are at a forecourt — the Asda Express, the Texaco or anywhere else.

On your own drive around Littletown? Then the vehicle remains where it is.

If your engine has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

Leave the M62 — under 3 miles out of Littletown — at the first junction.

About how far did it go? Crossing Littletown is smaller work than a trip of under 10 miles towards Bradford, and so say.

## When our engineers turn up in Littletown, what happens?

Wherever the vehicle has stopped, be it by Littletown Junior Infant and Nursery School, beside Christ Church or at home, the van travels to it.

Both the work and the quote rest on three answers — what fluid, which amount, and if it's run — so our engineers ask.

That price is given on the call, ahead of any van leaving.

Draining that tank comes next, then a full flush of your system.

Unlike petrol, AdBlue leaves crystals and eats at some fuel-system metals, and none of it washes away by itself. Hence it counts more.

After your filter has been flushed — or renewed, if needed — clean diesel goes in, and then your car is tested.

After that our technicians fire it up and confirm it runs properly before we leave.

Unstarted cars mostly need a half-hour visit from arrival. The kit is fine on a busy forecourt, and hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

No money upfront; you settle up on the day. Afterwards, the VAT invoice and a report from the engineer are handed to you for the insurer.

While we travel, have a look at your insurance documents; many carry cover for misfuelling.

## About Littletown

Littletown is a suburban area in West Yorkshire, situated near the River Calder at an elevation of around 65 metres. Littletown lies close to the cities of Bradford and Leeds, with the nearby settlements of Knowler Hill and Liversedge. Littletown has a mix of housing types, but is predominantly characterised by terraced homes. Littletown is located approximately 166 miles north of London, and about 6 miles from Bradford city centre.

## AdBlue drains across West Yorkshire, Littletown included

Being a residential suburb, Littletown has the same vans as surrounding places — Liversedge, Mill Bridge — right across WF postcodes and the wider area beyond.

Fastest of all: give a WF15 6 postcode for the van.

Moving the vehicle is not necessary.

Draining takes place on the spot, be it a driveway, a street by Gomersal Moravian Church, or a lay-by towards Firthcliffe Recreation Ground.

If you're near a border, or somewhere hard to explain like the back of Central Jamia Masjid Al-Haramain, ring and ask instead of guessing.

## In short, for Littletown people

Read the cap before you tip.

AdBlue in your diesel tank after all? Leave it switched off and ring 0333 366 0103; Petrol in Diesel empties it where it stands, throughout West Yorkshire.
