# Llandysul: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

Motor off, ignition off: that is how you start if AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank.

Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is.

The harm starts once it is sucked through your lines — it won't burn, and it won't combine with diesel.

If your engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally emptied and carefully cleaned where the car sits around Llandysul.

Before anything, call us on 0333 366 0103.

## What to do right now, Llandysul: AdBlue in your diesel tank

To do:

- Pull your keys out, and so nobody switches the ignition on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all near.

- Which product, and about how much quantity? Save the bottle or the receipt, and our technicians can see.

- Ring just where you are. Quote a SA44 4 postcode or the nearest street name, and nobody has to hunt for you.

Don't do these:

- Not even for a second, and not to shift your car: your motor stays off.

- Don't switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- AdBlue does not mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra diesel will not weaken it.

- Even a short way along King Street is too far to drive it.

- By the road, don't attempt draining it yourself.

Rolling your car away from the island is a job for staff to help with, wherever Llandysul forecourt you are on, the Shell or any other.

At home, the car stays exactly as it is.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

Not your motor but your exhaust is where AdBlue belongs.

Stored in a dedicated tank, it's squirted into the exhaust to treat the gases.

Not one side fits the other: urea doesn't belong in an injection pump, and a pump cannot take urea.

Tipped in with your diesel, it stays separate rather than blending — entirely different from fuel.

It is heavier than diesel, so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of your tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Gorrig last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the easy case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has pulled it in.

Two kinds of damage come from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it strands urea that hardens in filter elements and tiny passages; meanwhile, because it eats at certain metals, every part it reaches keeps suffering for as long as it remains inside.

Where the AdBlue is in the lines, waiting overnight in Llandysul makes it worse. Inside your tank alone, time does nothing.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector need diesel running through them, so the water content harms them in its own right.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it is commonly worse than petrol

Top up a diesel with petrol by mistake over at the Murco, and the problem is thinned fuel.

Blended into the diesel and left unused, it is harmless at that stage; running your engine does the damage.

AdBlue in a diesel is a problem of the wrong substance altogether.

It can't just be run through, because it doesn't burn.

Whether the car sits in Horeb or the centre of Llandysul, turning it over "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than almost any other slip, and the flush counts more. The reasons: it will not stay blended, and so watering it down fails; and crystals and corrosion survive the following tankful.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Not started? Then the AdBlue waits only in the tank, the easiest bit of the entire system to clear, wherever the vehicle has stopped in Ceredigion.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Llandysul: how it ends up there

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of motors sits right next to the diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

It mostly occurs at home, from a container bought on the journey home, not at the filling station.

Usually, it happens in one of a few familiar ways.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside the local primary school the top-up is hurried.

In the evening, a container goes in on a drive near Lon Wesley.

Or someone unfamiliar with that flap tops up your car after dark, parked in the car park by King's Arms.

It happens most in the cars people know least: a hire car, a new motor, a company car, or the second vehicle of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

Wherever you are around Llandysul or the rest of Ceredigion, it's the same slip and the same first answer: leave it off.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Llandysul, and the engine started?

The AdBlue has left your tank, then.

With any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, having passed via the fuel filter and lines.

Expect lumpy running, smoke, falling power, warnings on your dash, or a cut-out — returning from Llandysul Park, perhaps, or midway across Llandysul.

No restarting to test: pull over once safe, then switch it off.

Each start pulls more of it through.

On the M4, under 25 miles from Llandysul, the first junction is where to exit, and somewhere sensible is where to stop — not carrying on.

How far it went matters. A couple of hundred yards across Llandysul to the car park by Ieuenctid Tysul Youth is a very different job from a run towards Swansea, under 50 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with each mile.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

There is more to rinse out once the engine has been run, and our technicians do all of it where your car has ended up.

Very rarely does it leave lasting damage if it is noticed early.

## Llandysul: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

A street beside Capel Undodaidd y Graig Unitarian Chapel, a driveway, a lay-by or a forecourt: anywhere your vehicle has come to rest in Llandysul, our engineers come to it.

The job depends on three replies, and we get before all else — what went in, the amount, and if the engine has run.

On the spot, the tank is then drained, and both the contaminated diesel and the urea leave at once.

What remains from AdBlue will not wash away by itself, and so the fuel system gets a careful flush, which matters far more with urea than for petrol.

Clean diesel goes in once the filter is cleaned — or swapped, when it needs to be — and then the car is tested.

Roughly half an hour once we arrive is usual for most jobs when the motor has not run.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house after dark.

Last, the system is bled with new diesel.

Firing it up comes next, and then you head off from where the vehicle is parked, outside the nearest station or on a driveway around Llandysul.

It's tested on new diesel to make sure it runs smoothly before we head off.

No workshop is needed at any point, with the entire job done then and there.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers want.

## Llandysul: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Not one single price would be fair, because every job is different.

Three things shift the price: whether the motor has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where the vehicle is. That last one turns on whether our van can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight space behind Llandysul Library.

What got in, how much, plus if it ran: each Llandysul enquiry begins by asking exactly those, before any figure, not after.

When those are known, a range turns into one firm number.

Before a van heads out, you are told our price on the phone. Then payment is on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## In Llandysul and still beside the vehicle?

Leaving the vehicle alone is, right now, the most useful thing you can do.
