# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Lletyharri? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then leave your motor off — and your ignition as well.

Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is.

Not like fuel, it neither ignites nor blends, and no harm happens till your motor pulls it round.

Caught before your motor has run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Lletyharri.

Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Lletyharri: the first few minutes

Things to do:

- Remove your keys, which prevents someone turning the electrics on.

- If you're anywhere near moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- Hold on to the receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what was put in and roughly how much.

- Call just where you are. Say a SA13 2 postcode or the closest street sign, and nobody has to hunt for you.

Not to do:

- Not even briefly, and not to shift your vehicle: your motor stays off.

- The ignition remains off: on many diesels, turning it on is enough to run your pump.

- Adding more diesel does not help: AdBlue separates out instead of thinning.

- Keep it where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short stretch down Ynys-y-Gored.

- No draining it yourself, at all, at the roadside.

At a forecourt around Lletyharri, whether it's the Tesco or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the vehicle clear of the pump.

If you are on your own drive, leave the vehicle precisely where it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not the motor.

Stored in a dedicated tank, it is squirted into the exhaust stream to clean the gases.

No part in a fuel pump is made for this liquid — and no part of that was meant to go that way.

It doesn't combine. Once it is poured into the tank, AdBlue behaves not at all like fuel.

The intake takes fuel from the deepest part of your tank, and that's exactly where AdBlue ends up: being heavier than diesel, it sinks.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Pantdu last night, and has not been started since, is still the easy case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has sucked it in.

Two kinds of damage come from there.

What is left when the water goes is urea, which turns into crystals: they lodge in narrow channels and clog filters. Worse, it attacks some metals in the fuel system, and carries on until it's cleared out.

A car left standing around Lletyharri with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank is not.

Water lubricates nothing. The high-pressure pump and every injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water part damages them in its own right.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel commonly the bigger fault?

Put petrol in a diesel at the another forecourt nearby and you have a problem of thin fuel.

Harm just comes from running on it. Mixed into the diesel and left in that tank, it causes nothing.

The trouble with AdBlue in a diesel is a completely wrong liquid.

Not burning, it can't just be run through.

It does not stay mixed, and so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the vehicle is in Port Talbot or the middle of Lletyharri.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Anywhere across Neath Port Talbot the car has stopped, an unstarted motor means the AdBlue yet in the tank: the easiest bit of any fuel system to empty.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Lletyharri: how it ends up there

In dim light, two caps together — the AdBlue cap and the diesel cap, occasionally under one flap — may look the same. Nobody means it; plenty of layouts allow it.

A bottle picked up while heading home and poured in at home, instead of at the forecourt, is the typical story.

Mostly, it happens in one of a few familiar ways.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside the local primary school the top-up is rushed.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Trefelin Crescent.

Or a driver new to that flap refills your car after dark, stopped in the car park by Forge Tavern.

Rented motors, new cars, fleet vehicles, or the spare vehicle in a home with both fuels: the least known cars see it most.

Keep it switched off: that's the first step to the same slip, wherever in Lletyharri or the remainder of Neath Port Talbot you happen to be.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Lletyharri, and your engine started?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer in the tank.

The fuel filter and pipework have had it sucked through, and any running carries it on to the injection pump and each injector.

Lumpy running, smoke from the exhaust, dropping power, dashboard lights or stalling: each might appear, maybe part way across Lletyharri or returning from Margam Forest.

When you safely can, stop and switch everything off — without turning it on again to test.

More of that is pulled through with each start.

On the M4, under a mile from Lletyharri, the first junction is where to leave, and somewhere safe is where to stop — not carrying on.

Distance counts: every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in, and so heading for Swansea, under 10 miles away, gives a far larger job than hopping across Lletyharri to the car park by Neath Port Talbot Library and Information Services.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

There is more to flush once your engine has been started, and our engineers do all of it where the car has come to a stop.

If it is caught soon, long-term damage is very uncommon.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel in Lletyharri: what it takes

We come to the car, wherever it has stopped in Lletyharri: a side street near Seventh-Day Adventist Church, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Before anything else our engineers ask what went in, roughly how much, and whether your motor has been run, because those replies determine this work.

The polluted diesel and the urea leave as one when the tank is emptied, on the spot.

Residue from AdBlue won't flush out unaided, and so the fuel system gets a full flush, which counts far more with urea than with petrol.

After that, the filter: cleaned, or changed when it has to be. Then clean diesel, and then a test of your vehicle.

Not run? Then count on about half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

Explosion-proof pumps mean a busy forecourt sensible to work on, and they're quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

Priming the system with new diesel comes at the end.

You head off as soon as our engineers have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive in Lletyharri or in a space at Port Talbot Parkway.

Our engineers confirm it runs smoothly on clean diesel before leaving.

No workshop is needed at any stage, with the entire job done then and there.

At the end, there is the paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice and a written report from the engineer.

## AdBlue drains in Lletyharri and across Neath Port Talbot

Corlannau, Velindre and Caerhendy are among the places near Lletyharri that the same vans reach, along with most of Neath Port Talbot further out, over the SA postcode area.

If you are near a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask instead of assuming.

A van that comes to you suits Lletyharri, a residential suburb: you have no need to bring your car to us, since our technicians empty it on the spot, on a drive, a side street, a car park or a filling station.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Lletyharri: the cost of fixing it

Not one flat price would be fair, because every job is different.

What shifts the price is, firstly, whether the engine has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue was put in; and after that where the vehicle is and whether our van can get to it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight gap behind St. Agnes' Church.

With that reason, each enquiry from Lletyharri opens with the identical trio — which fluid was put in, what quantity, whether the engine ran — ahead of a figure.

Given those replies, the range narrows to one fixed figure.

Priced on the call before the van sets out, the job is paid for on the day — card or phone, no deposit.

Check your insurance whilst we're on the way: plenty include misfuelling cover.

## In Lletyharri and still beside the car?

Right now, the best thing to do with the car is to not touch it.

Keys out, engine off, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103 then tell us it's AdBlue, about how much, and if it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, around Lletyharri or anywhere around Neath Port Talbot.
