# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Longridge? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has got into your diesel tank, leave the engine off then leave your ignition off.

Water with urea mixed in it: that is AdBlue.

Being water-based, it won't ignite and won't blend with diesel; damage only comes once the pump begins pulling it.

If the engine hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually drained and carefully cleaned where the vehicle stands in Longridge.

Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## What to do straight away, Longridge: AdBlue in your diesel tank

Do:

- Take the keys out, and so nobody switches the ignition on.

- Put the hazards on if you are at all near moving traffic.

- The empty bottle or your receipt tells us the product and the amount, so do not bin it out.

- Give us a postcode starting GL19 4, or whatever street lies nearest, and the van reaches you directly — so call wherever you are.

Not to do:

- No starting the motor — not briefly, not to shift your car.

- Many diesels power their fuel pump the instant your ignition goes on, so keep it off.

- Adding extra diesel doesn't work: AdBlue settles out instead of blending.

- Even a short way along Longridge Lane is too far to drive the vehicle.

- Don't try to drain the vehicle yourself by the roadside.

On a forecourt around Longridge, whether it's the BP or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the vehicle clear of the petrol pump.

If you're on your own drive, leave the vehicle precisely where it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for your exhaust, AdBlue has no business in your motor.

Kept in a dedicated tank, it's squirted into the exhaust stream to clean the gases.

No part in an injection pump is made for this fluid — and none of it was intended to travel that way.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after tipped in, will not. Its behaviour is not at all like fuel's.

The intake sucks fuel from the deepest part of that tank, and that is just where AdBlue ends up: as it is denser than diesel, it sinks.

A car filled on a driveway in Ashleworth overnight and left unstarted is the straightforward case. No pump has pulled the AdBlue up so far — but once the engine runs, that is what is pulled first, directly from the bottom of your tank.

Two kinds of damage come from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it leaves urea that crystallises in filters and tiny channels; meanwhile, because it eats at some metals, every part it touches keeps suffering for as long as it remains in there.

Overnight, a car parked around Longridge with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; where it's only in your tank, it doesn't.

The water in it causes damage of its own: the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel frequently the bigger problem?

Fill a diesel with petrol by mistake over at the Valero, and this problem is diluted fuel.

It mixes with your diesel, and while it's inside the tank it does no damage; the harm comes from running your motor on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is a fault of the wrong substance altogether.

It does not burn, and so it can't just be run through.

It does not stay mixed, so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your engine "to see" costs more here than almost anywhere else, whether the vehicle is in Moor End or the middle of Longridge.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Wherever in Gloucestershire your car has stopped, an unstarted motor leaves the AdBlue yet in the tank: the simplest bit of a fuel system to clear.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Longridge: how it ends up there

Many cars place the AdBlue filler beside the diesel one, now and then under one flap, and in dim light the two can appear the same. No one means it.

Most of the time it occurs with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

Usually, it happens in one of a couple of familiar ways.

Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside Hartpury Church of England Primary School the top-up is rushed.

In the evening, a bottle goes in on a driveway close to Woolridge Hill.

Otherwise, after dark by Royal Exchange, your vehicle is refilled by a driver using that flap for the first time.

It comes up most in a hire car, a brand-new vehicle, a fleet motor, or the spare motor in a home with one of each fuel types — the cars people use the least.

Wherever across Gloucestershire, Longridge as well, the slip does not change, and neither does the first step: leave it off.

## Already started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Longridge?

In that case, the AdBlue is no longer inside that tank.

Your filter and pipework have had it pulled through, and some running takes it on to the high-pressure pump and each injector.

Rough running, smoke from the exhaust, lost power, dashboard warnings or cutting out: each may show up, maybe part way across Longridge or coming back from Deans Coppice.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart the vehicle to check.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Longridge lies under 10 miles from the M5; if you were on it, leave at the next junction and stop somewhere safe rather than driving on.

How far it went counts. A couple of hundred yards across Longridge to the car park by Hartpury Methodist Church is a very different job from a run towards Gloucester, under 5 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with every mile.

Let us know about how far it had come.

We do all of the cleaning where the car has ended up, and once your engine has been run there is more of it.

Caught soon, it very seldom leaves permanent damage.

## Emptying AdBlue in a diesel around Longridge: what it takes

The car stays put, whether that's a road near Hartpury Village Hall, a drive, a layby or a filling station in Longridge, and our van comes to it.

Three answers shape the work, and so before anything else our engineers ask which fluid was put in, about what quantity, plus if the motor has run.

Next, draining your tank right there removes the contaminated diesel and the AdBlue together.

Residue from AdBlue won't flush out unaided, and so the whole system gets a full flush, which matters much more here than for petrol.

After that, the filter: cleaned, or changed if it must be. Then clean diesel, then a check of the vehicle.

If your engine hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once our engineers arrive.

Explosion-proof pumps make a live forecourt sensible to work on, and they run quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

Priming your system with new diesel comes last.

Whether it is a parking bay at Gloucester or a drive in Longridge, that is where we start the car and you set off.

The test before our engineers head off is that it runs smoothly on fresh diesel.

No workshop is needed at any point, with the entire job done on the spot.

Afterwards, you are given paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

## AdBlue drains across Gloucestershire, Longridge included

Ring and check instead of guessing when you are close to a border, or anywhere tricky to pin down.

No towing is needed. In Longridge, a rural hamlet, a mobile service works: your vehicle is emptied on the spot, whether in a drive, a side street, a car park or a filling station.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Longridge: the cost of fixing it

Every job is different, so no fixed quote is fair.

What changes the cost is, first of all, whether the motor has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue was put in; and then where the car is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight space behind The Preaching Cross.

What went in, how much, plus whether the engine ran: every Longridge enquiry begins with precisely those, before a figure, not after.

When they are known, a range turns into a single firm number.

The price is given during the call, before anyone sets off; payment comes on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## Alongside your car in Longridge, still?

Not touching your car is, right now, the most useful thing open to you.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Say it was AdBlue, about how big an amount, and whether it ran, on 0333 366 0103. After that Petrol in Diesel handles it, across Longridge or wherever within Gloucestershire.
