# Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Low Prudhoe

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition remains off and so does the motor.

Urea mixed in water is all AdBlue is.

It doesn't burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does starts when your fuel system draws it in.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Low Prudhoe, is generally what AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before the motor has run.

Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank in Low Prudhoe

Things to do:

- Pull the keys out, so no one switches the ignition on.

- Close to moving traffic? Then put your hazards on.

- So you can give us which liquid it was and about how much, save the till receipt or the empty bottle.

- Ring just where you are. Quote a NE42 6 postcode or the closest street name, and nobody has to hunt for you.

Don't:

- Don't start your engine, even for a moment to shift your car.

- Don't switch your ignition on. On plenty of diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra fuel will not thin it.

- Don't drive it anywhere, not even a short distance up Station Road.

- Draining the tank yourself by the road isn't one to try.

Rolling the vehicle away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Low Prudhoe forecourt you're on, the Gulf included.

At your own driveway, do not move it at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for your exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the motor.

From a dedicated reservoir it goes straight to your exhaust, cleaning what your motor lets out.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is made to handle it.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves really differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

It drops, because it is heavier than diesel, and pools low where the intake draws its supply from.

The first thing the system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a car that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Eltringham last night, and has not been started since, is still the simple case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of that tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

From there it does two kinds of harm.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps labouring on the parts it gets to for as long as it stays there.

A vehicle left sitting around Low Prudhoe with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank is not.

The water in it causes harm of its own: your high-pressure pump and your injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is frequently worse

Fill a diesel with petrol in error over at the another forecourt nearby, and this problem is thinned fuel.

It mixes with the diesel, and whilst it's in that tank it causes no harm; the damage comes from running your motor on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is an issue of the wrong substance altogether.

Not burning, it cannot simply be run through.

It does not stay mixed, so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the vehicle is in West Wylam or the middle of Low Prudhoe.

As with petrol, there's good news.

If the motor hasn't run, the AdBlue is still in your tank, and the tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across Northumberland the car is sitting.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Low Prudhoe

It's not on purpose. Many vehicles keep the AdBlue cap beside the diesel inlet, now and then behind one flap, and mixing them up is easy after dark.

Most of the time it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the pump.

A few familiar ways account for most cases.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside Prudhoe Castle First School the refill is hurried.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Princess Way.

One more pattern: dim light, the car park outside The Adam & Eve, and a driver using that flap for the first time.

It takes place most in the vehicles people know least: a hire car, a new motor, a company car, or the second vehicle of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

An identical slip, same first step — keep it off — anywhere you happen to be around Low Prudhoe or the remainder of Northumberland.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Low Prudhoe, and the motor started?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer in that tank.

With any running, it goes on to the injection pump and each injector, having passed via the fuel filter and lines.

You may see your engine running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, perhaps on the way back from Tyne Riverside Country Park or halfway across Low Prudhoe.

No starting it again to test: pull over when it is safe, then switch it off.

With each start, more of it is pulled through.

Low Prudhoe lies under 10 miles from the Central Motorway East; if you were on it, leave by the next junction and stop safely instead of driving on.

Mileage matters: each mile pushes the AdBlue further into your system, so driving towards Newcastle upon Tyne, under 15 miles away, gives a much bigger job than hopping across Low Prudhoe to the car park by Prudhoe Castle.

Tell us about how far it had come.

Once the motor has run, the flush covers more, and all of it is done where the car has ended up.

Noticed soon, it very rarely leaves lasting damage.

## What clearing AdBlue from a diesel involves around Low Prudhoe

The car remains put, whether that is a road beside Ovingham Village Hall (Reading Room), a driveway, a lay-by or a filling station in Low Prudhoe, and the van travels to it.

Three answers shape the work, and so before anything else our engineers ask what went in, roughly what quantity, and whether the motor has run.

Then your tank is emptied where your car waits, and so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

A full flush counts far more after AdBlue than with petrol, since what remains won't wash away on its own.

Testing your car comes last, after fresh diesel goes in and the fuel filter gets flushed or, if needed, swapped.

About half an hour on site is usual for most jobs when your engine has not run.

Explosion-proof pumps make a busy forecourt safe to work on, and they run quiet enough to spare the neighbours at night.

Finally, your system is primed with fresh diesel.

Whether it's a parking space at Prudhoe or a driveway in Low Prudhoe, that is where our technicians fire it up and you drive off.

The test before our engineers leave is that it runs properly on new diesel.

Since the job is done in its entirety where the car is, a workshop never comes into it.

Insurers ask for a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come at the end.

## AdBlue drains in Low Prudhoe and across Northumberland

Our vans that answer AdBlue jobs in Low Prudhoe also cover the places around it, Ovingham, Prudhoe and Edgewell among them, and most of Northumberland beyond, across the NE postcode area.

Guessing won't help close to a county line or anywhere hard to describe; ring and ask.

No moving is needed. In Low Prudhoe, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you works: your car is drained on the spot, be it in a driveway, a residential street, a car park or a filling station.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Low Prudhoe?

Each job differs, so no fixed price is fair.

The cost changes first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that was put in. After that it rests on where the vehicle is and whether our van can reach it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight gap behind Saint Mary the Virgin.

What got in, what quantity, and if the engine ran: each Low Prudhoe call begins by asking precisely those, ahead of any quote, not after.

Given those replies, a range narrows to a single fixed number.

Quoted on the call before the engineer heads out, it is paid for on the day — card or phone, no deposit.

While our engineer is travelling, dig out your policy: many include misfuelling.

## Low Prudhoe: still alongside your car?

Then the most useful thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, plus whether the engine ran is all our technicians need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest throughout Northumberland, Low Prudhoe too.
