# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Manton? Don't Start It

Motor off, ignition off: that's how you begin if AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

The trouble starts once it is sucked through the pump — it will not burn, and it won't blend with diesel.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Manton, is normally all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before the engine has run.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## Manton, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do straight away

Do these:

- Take the keys out, and so no one switches your ignition on.

- Close to moving traffic? So put the hazards on.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the fluid and the amount, so do not bin it out.

- Tell us a postcode starting S80 2, or whatever street lies nearest, and the van finds you directly — so call wherever you stand.

Do not do these:

- Don't start your motor, even for a moment to shift your car.

- Your ignition stays off: on many diesels, switching it on is enough to run the fuel pump.

- Don't top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not mix in diesel; it separates out.

- Keep the car where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short way along Hardwick Road West.

- Don't try to drain it yourself by the kerbside.

The attendants on duty at any Manton filling station — the Morrisons included — will usually lend a hand rolling it aside if you ask.

If you are on your own drive, leave the car precisely where it sits.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

Meant for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the engine.

From a dedicated tank it goes straight to the exhaust, cleaning what the engine lets out.

A fuel pump is not designed to take it, and AdBlue was never intended to go through one.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves really differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

It drops, because it is denser than diesel, and pools down where the intake draws its fuel from.

When your pump runs, the AdBlue is first to go through. Until then it waits underneath the diesel, and that is why a vehicle filled in Sunnyside last night and not started stays the simple case, provided no one turns your key.

Once it's pulled in, the damage takes two forms.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps working on the components it hits for as long as it stays there.

A vehicle left standing in Manton with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank is not.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector depend on diesel flowing through them, and so the water part harms them by itself.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Petrol put into a diesel on Gateford Service Station's forecourt makes the fuel thin — that is the main issue.

It mixes with your diesel, and whilst it is in that tank it causes no harm; the damage comes from running your motor on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is a fault of the wrong substance altogether.

It does not burn, so it cannot simply be run through.

Nor can it be thinned, since it splits back out — and the following fill won't rinse away deposits or corrosion. So the flush matters more with AdBlue, and trying the engine "to see", in the heart of Manton or out in Woodhouse, costs more than almost any other mistake.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

If the motor has not run, the AdBlue is still inside your tank, and your tank is the quickest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across Nottinghamshire the car is sitting.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Manton

Plenty of cars put the AdBlue cap beside the diesel cap, now and then under one flap, and in dim light the two can look the same. Nobody means it.

Usually it is never the filling station: a driver buys a bottle driving home and pours it in at home.

Mostly, it occurs in one of a couple of familiar ways.

The refill gets hurried outside Worksop Priory Church of England Primary Academy, after your dash lit up with a warning as the children were taken off.

After work, a bottle goes in on a driveway close to Hardwick Crescent.

Or a driver unfamiliar with that flap tops up your car after dark, parked in the car park outside The greyhound.

It comes up the most in a hire car, a brand-new vehicle, a company vehicle, or the other vehicle of a home with one of each fuel types — the cars people use the least.

Leave it switched off: that's the first response to the same slip, anywhere in Manton or the rest of Nottinghamshire you happen to be.

## Manton: started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

Via the filter, through the pipework, and — given any running — on to the high-pressure pump and every injector: that is how far it travels.

Rough running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or cutting out: any might appear, maybe midway across Manton or returning from Oasis Garden.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and do not restart the car to check.

Each start pulls more of that through.

On the Doncaster By-Pass, under 10 miles from Manton, the first junction is where to exit, and somewhere safe is where to stop — not driving on.

Distance matters: each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in, and so heading for Doncaster, under 25 miles away, gives a far bigger job than crossing Manton to the car park by Manton Sports & Social Club.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

Once the engine has been started, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where your car has ended up.

Caught soon, it very rarely leaves permanent damage.

## Manton: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

Wherever it has stopped in Manton — a forecourt, a lay-by, a driveway, a road by Worksop Priory — our van travels to your vehicle.

Three replies shape the work, so before anything else our technicians ask what got in, roughly what quantity, and if the engine has run.

Then that tank is cleared where your car sits, so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

With AdBlue, far more than with petrol, the flush matters: the fuel system is cleaned right through because what remains will not wash out unaided.

Next, the filter: cleaned, or changed when it has to be. Then clean diesel, then a test of your vehicle.

Not run? In that case expect about half an hour on site for most jobs.

The pumping gear is explosion-proof, and so a live forecourt is no problem, and it's quiet enough for a residential street after dark.

The final step is to bleed the system on fresh diesel.

Starting it comes next, and then you head off from where your car is parked, at Worksop or on a drive around Manton.

The check before our technicians go is that it runs properly on fresh diesel.

No garage is required at any stage, with the whole job done then and there.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers want.

## About Manton and where it is

Manton is a suburban area in Nottinghamshire, situated on the riverside at an elevation of 34 metres. Manton lies near the towns of Worksop and Bracebridge, and is within commuting distance of Doncaster. Manton has a population of around 5227 people, predominantly living in semi-detached housing. Manton is located in the East Midlands region, approximately 130.7 miles north of London.

## AdBlue drains in Manton and across Nottinghamshire

AdBlue jobs around Manton are passed to teams that cover the towns near it — Bracebridge, Worksop plus Kilton — and much of Nottinghamshire further out, throughout S postcodes.

If you're near a boundary, or somewhere hard to explain, ring and ask instead of guessing.

A van that comes to you suits Manton, a residential suburb: you have no need to bring your vehicle to us, because we empty it there, in a driveway, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Manton?

Every job is different, so not one single quote would be fair.

Three things change the price: whether the motor has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the vehicle is. That last one turns on whether a technician can reach it safely, and an open driveway is easier than a tight spot behind Rayton Spur Community Centre.

What went in, how much, plus if it ran: each Manton call begins with precisely those, ahead of a figure, never after.

Once those are known, a range becomes one fixed number.

Our price is quoted on the call, before anyone sets off; settling up happens on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Look at your policy whilst we're on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.

## In Manton and still alongside your car?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Call 0333 366 0103 and tell us it is AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it's run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Manton or anywhere in Nottinghamshire.
