# Meliden: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then leave the motor off — and the ignition too.

Water with urea dissolved in it: that's AdBlue.

The harm begins once it is sucked through the pump — it won't ignite, and it won't blend with diesel.

In Meliden, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before your motor runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where the car is.

Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in your diesel tank around Meliden

Do these:

- Take the keys out, so nobody switches your ignition on.

- Close to moving traffic? Then put the hazards on.

- So you can tell us which liquid it was and roughly what quantity, save the till receipt or the empty bottle.

- Our van finds you quickest with a postcode starting LL19 8, or simply the name of a street nearby, so call from the car.

Never do these:

- Don't start the engine, even for a moment to shift your car.

- Turning your key to ignition alone sets the pump going on many diesels. Avoid it.

- Pouring in more diesel doesn't help: AdBlue separates out rather than thinning.

- Do not drive it anywhere, not even a short distance up Ffordd Tanrallt.

- Emptying your tank on your own beside the road is not worth trying.

The staff on duty at any Meliden forecourt — the Tesco among them — will usually lend a hand pushing it clear if you ask.

On that drive, the car stays just where it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not your motor.

From a dedicated tank it is fed straight to your exhaust, treating what your motor lets out.

Nothing inside a fuel pump is designed for this liquid — and no part of it was intended to travel through one.

Poured in with your diesel, it keeps separate rather than mixing — quite unlike fuel.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and pools underneath it — the very spot the intake sucks from.

The first thing the system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Woodland Park last night, and has not been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

After it is drawn in, the damage comes in two forms.

It eats at certain metals used in fuel systems, working on any part it touches until it is cleared completely. And once the water evaporates, the urea forms crystals that block filters and lodge in tiny passages.

Overnight, a car sitting around Meliden with AdBlue in its lines gets worse; if it's only inside the tank, nothing changes.

Water lubricates nothing. The high-pressure pump and every injector depend on diesel flowing through them, and so the water part harms them by itself.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel frequently the bigger issue?

Fill a diesel with petrol by mistake at the Murco, and this problem is diluted fuel.

Harm just comes from running on it. Mixed into the diesel and sitting in the tank, it causes none.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different matter: not thin fuel, yet no fuel at all.

Because it doesn't burn, running it through isn't an option.

Crystals and corrosion remain through the next fill, and AdBlue splits again from your diesel, and so watering it won't help. That is why the flush matters so much, and trying the engine "to see" costs more here than almost any other mistake — in Dyserth or the centre of Meliden equally.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Wherever around Denbighshire your car has stopped, an unstarted motor leaves the AdBlue still in the reservoir: the easiest part of a fuel system to clear.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Meliden: how it ends up there

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of motors waits right next to the diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Mostly it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

A few familiar ways account for the majority of them.

The refill is hurried outside the local primary school, because your dash lit up with a warning as the children were taken in.

In the evening, a container is tipped in on a driveway near Ffordd Talargoch.

Or someone new to that flap refills the car in dim light, parked in the car park outside The Miner's Arms.

Hired motors, brand-new cars, company motors, or the spare vehicle in a family with one of each: the least familiar cars see it the most.

Wherever you're around Meliden or the remainder of Denbighshire, it is the same mistake and the same first answer: leave the car off.

## Started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank around Meliden?

In that case, the AdBlue is no longer in that tank.

The fuel filter and lines have had it pulled through, and any running takes it on to the injection pump and every injector.

Watch for lumpy running, smoke, lost power, lights on the dash, or a cut-out — returning from Garden of Remembrance, say, or midway across Meliden.

Once you safely can, stop then turn it off — with no turning it on again to test.

Each start pulls more of it through.

On the Moreton Spur, under 15 miles from Meliden, the next junction is where to leave, and anywhere sensible is where to stop — not driving on.

Every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into the system. That is why crossing Meliden to park beside Meliden Community Centre and a drive of under 5 miles towards St Asaph are very different jobs.

Let us know about how far it had come.

Wherever your car came to a halt is where all of it gets done, even with more to clean out once the motor has been running.

Permanent damage is very rare when it is spotted quickly.

## Clearing AdBlue in a diesel around Meliden: what it takes

A road beside Talargoch Coetia Llys Lead Mine - Mostyn Shaft, a drive, a layby or a forecourt: wherever your vehicle has stopped around Meliden, we come to it.

The work rests on three replies, which our engineers get before all else — which fluid was put in, the quantity, and whether your motor has turned over.

Next, emptying your tank on the spot removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue together.

With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing counts: the whole system is flushed right through since what remains will not wash out by itself.

Next, your filter: flushed, or replaced if it must be. After that fresh diesel, then a test of the vehicle.

If the motor has not run, most jobs take about half an hour once we arrive.

Explosion-proof pumps make a live forecourt safe to work on, and they're quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

New diesel goes in to bleed the system, and that's the last step.

Whether it is a parking space outside Prestatyn or a driveway around Meliden, that is where our engineers fire it up and you head off.

The test before our engineers head off is that it runs smoothly on new diesel.

The whole job is done where your car is, so it never needs to be taken to a garage.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report later on, which is what insurers ask for.

Assuming won't help close to a border or somewhere hard to pin down; ring and ask.

Meliden is a coastal village, and a mobile drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our engineers drain it where it is, so it never needs to be moved to us.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Meliden: the cost of fixing it

Since each jobs vary, a flat figure wouldn't be fair.

What changes the price is, firstly, whether your engine has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue was put in; and then where the vehicle is and whether a van can reach it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight space behind Talargoch Coetia Llys Lead Mine- South Joint Shaft.

What was put in, how much, plus if the engine ran: each Meliden enquiry begins with precisely those, before a figure, never after.

Given them, a range narrows to one firm figure.

Our price is quoted on the call, before a van leaves; settling up happens on the day, by card or over the phone, and nothing upfront.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it is worth checking yours whilst we are on the way.
