# Mill Throop: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

If AdBlue has got into the diesel tank, keep your motor off then keep your ignition off.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

Unlike fuel, it neither burns nor mixes, and nothing starts till your engine sucks it round.

If the engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally drained and carefully rinsed where your car stands around Mill Throop.

Before anything, call us on 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank around Mill Throop

Do these:

- So no one can turn your ignition on, pull the keys out.

- If you're anywhere near moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- Keep your receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what went in and roughly how much.

- The van locates you quickest with a postcode starting BH8 0, or just the name of a street close by, so call from the car.

Never:

- Not even briefly, and not to roll your car: the engine remains off.

- Do not switch your ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- No more fuel added. The AdBlue will not blend, and so it's wasted.

- Any driving at all is best avoided, including a short way up Ashurst Road.

- Emptying the tank yourself beside the road isn't worth trying.

Moving the car away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Mill Throop forecourt you are on, the Asda Express or any other.

At home, your car remains just as it was left.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for your exhaust, AdBlue has no place in your engine.

Its own reservoir keeps it, and from there it's sprayed into your exhaust, where it cleans the gas.

Not one side suits the other: urea doesn't belong in a pump, and a pump cannot take urea.

It does not combine. Once it's poured into a tank of diesel, AdBlue acts not at all like diesel.

It is heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of the tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from.

A motor topped up on a driveway in Strouden yesterday evening and left unstarted is the simple case. Nothing has sucked the AdBlue up so far — but when the motor turns, that is what is pulled first, directly from the bottom of your tank.

It does two kinds of damage from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps running on the parts it gets to for as long as it stays there.

By daybreak, a vehicle parked in Mill Throop with AdBlue through its pipework grows worse; where it is just in your tank, it doesn't.

The water in it causes damage of its own: the high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it is commonly worse than petrol

Petrol put into a diesel on Esso's forecourt makes the fuel watery — that's the main issue.

Mixed into your diesel and sitting unused, it's harmless at that stage; running your motor does the harm.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid as such is plainly the wrong one.

Since it does not burn, running it through is not an option.

Whether your vehicle sits in Red Hill or the heart of Mill Throop, turning it over "to see" does more harm in this case than almost any other slip, and the flush counts more. The reasons: it will not remain mixed, and so watering it down is impossible; and deposits and corrosion outlast the following fill.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Emptying a tank is the simplest part on any fuel system, and with no running, the AdBlue stays in it — anywhere around Dorset the car has stopped.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank in Mill Throop?

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on many cars waits right next to your diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Usually it is never the forecourt: someone buys a bottle driving home and pours it in at home.

A few familiar ways cover the majority of them.

The top-up is rushed outside Muscliff Primary School, after your dash lit up with a warning while the children were dropped off.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Downton Close.

Another pattern: darkness, the car park outside The Broadway, and a driver using that flap for the first time.

It occurs most in the cars people know least: a hire car, a new vehicle, a company car, or the second motor of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

Wherever you are in Mill Throop or the remainder of Dorset, it's the same error and the same first answer: leave the car off.

## Started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Mill Throop?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer in your tank.

Through the filter, along the lines, and — given any running — on to the injection pump and each injector: that's where it travels.

Expect rough running, exhaust smoke, lost power, warnings on the dash, or a cut-out — returning from Rio-Mar Home Park, perhaps, or part way across Mill Throop.

Stop when safe. Switch off. Keep the vehicle off rather than testing it again.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Mill Throop lies under 25 miles from the M27; if you were on it, leave at the first junction and stop somewhere safe instead of driving on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue further into your system. That is why a hop across Mill Throop to park near Brethren's Meeting Room and a drive of under 25 miles towards Salisbury are very distinct jobs.

About how far it had come is worth telling us.

Our technicians do all of the rinsing where the vehicle has ended up, and once the motor has been started there is more of it.

Lasting damage is very uncommon when it is noticed quickly.

## Mill Throop: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

A road beside Saint Paul's, Throop, a driveway, a lay-by or a forecourt: anywhere your vehicle has stopped in Mill Throop, we travel to it.

What got in, roughly how much, plus whether the motor has turned over: our technicians check before all else, because those shape the job.

Next, draining your tank on the spot removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

Residue from AdBlue will not flush away unaided, and so the fuel system gets a careful flush, which matters far more here than with petrol.

Your filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

If your engine has not run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once our engineers arrive.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

The final step is to bleed your system on clean diesel.

You drive off as soon as we have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive in Mill Throop or in a bay outside Bournemouth.

The check before our engineers go is that it runs properly on fresh diesel.

Our technicians do it all wherever your car has ended up, and it never has to go to a workshop.

Afterwards, you are given the paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice plus a written report from the engineer.

## Mill Throop and Dorset: AdBlue drains across the area

AdBlue call-outs around Mill Throop go to vans that serve the towns around it — Throop, Muscliffe as well as Muscliff — and much of Dorset further out, throughout BH postcodes.

If you are close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask rather than guessing.

No moving is needed. In Mill Throop, a coastal area, a van that comes to you fits: the vehicle is emptied where it stands, be it in a drive, a side street, a car park or a forecourt.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Mill Throop?

There's no fair single price, since the jobs aren't the same.

Three things change the price: whether the motor has run and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a technician can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight space behind Claremont Christian Church.

That's why each call from Mill Throop starts with the same three queries, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and if it has run.

Their replies narrow a range down to a single figure.

Our price is quoted on the call, before a van sets off; settling up comes on the day, by card or over the phone, and nothing upfront.

As the van is on the way, check your policy: many cover misfuelling.

## Mill Throop: still beside the vehicle?

Leaving your vehicle alone is, then, the most useful thing you can do.

Ignition off, engine off, keys out.

Say it's AdBlue, roughly how big an amount, and if it ran, on 0333 366 0103. After that Petrol in Diesel takes over, across Mill Throop or wherever within Dorset.
