# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Moorpark: How It Occurs and How to Prevent It

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave the engine and your ignition off and ring 0333 366 0103.

Normally, if your engine has not turned, it is drained and thoroughly rinsed where your car is in Moorpark.

The remainder of this page explains why it takes place and how to make sure it doesn't — useful if you're reading ahead of time.

## AdBlue in a diesel car: two tanks, two fillers

Plenty of current diesels on the roads round Moorpark and Loanhead carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to your engine.

Stored in a tank of its own, AdBlue is sprayed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

Each tank has its own filler.

Plenty of motors share a single flap for both, while others put the AdBlue filler to the boot or under the bonnet.

Diesel goes in at every forecourt visit, again and again.

A driver who has to stop and work out where it goes usually tops up the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less often.

That gap is where the slip lives.

## How does AdBlue in the diesel tank occur around Moorpark?

Carelessness seldom causes it. What does is three things lining up together.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low your car tells you, and if it runs out completely, the car goes into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off McLaren Avenue before work, or in the car park at The Flying Scotsman on the way home.

Unfamiliar vehicles come second, as well. Hire cars, new cars and company cars put their fillers differently, and habit reaches for the cap it used on the old one.

And the bottle fits. A bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one, so nothing stops the tip once it has started.

Whether it takes place in Victory Gardens or the middle of Moorpark, it's the same few seconds.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

Be it a Moorpark forecourt or a drive over in Gallowhill, take a few seconds over these before any is poured in.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is frequently blue, or marked "AdBlue". The diesel cap normally isn't. Read it instead of going by position.

- Plenty of cars give AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- Check inside the fuel flap: many motors carry a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- The handbook says which it lives if the filler isn't next to the diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- Whoever had it before knows. Ask when you collect a hire car or fleet car — at Hillington West's car park, say — rather than once the warning appears.

## How to top up without AdBlue in your diesel tank

Anywhere in Renfrewshire the light comes on, this is a routine for that day.

- Turn off after you park — level ground, engine stopped, and not rushed by Sixth Avenue at the roadside.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it works.

- Leave your diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Pour slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Only then, start your car: close the cap, check once more, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Skip stage five entirely.

## Already put AdBlue in your diesel tank in Moorpark?

The short order of things, starting with not starting your engine.

On plenty of diesels your ignition alone runs the fuel pump, and so do not switch the car on.

Diluting it with extra diesel won't work, since AdBlue sinks to the base instead of blending — and that is where the fuel is drawn from.

The attendants at Tesco, Shell or another forecourt will normally help to push your car away if asked.

If you're on your own driveway in Moorpark, leave it where it stands.

Where your engine has been run already, stop safely then turn it off.

Moorpark lies under a mile from the M8; there, use the first exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Hopping across Moorpark is less a job than a run of under 10 miles towards Glasgow, so tell us.

## What occurs when our engineers get there around Moorpark

Our engineers come to your car wherever it has stopped, whether that's outside the local primary school, near Renfrew Leisure Centre or on your own driveway.

Those answers determine this work and our price, and so we ask what went in, about how much, and if it has run.

You get that quote by phone, before anyone heads out.

Draining the tank comes next, then a full flush of your system.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it does not wash out on its own.

The fuel filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the car is tested.

The motor is fired up next and checked to be sure it runs correctly, all before our technicians go.

If the engine has not run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once we are there, using pumps that are fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house after dark.

No money upfront; you settle up on the day. At the end, a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer go to you for your insurer.

While we travel, take a look at your insurance documents; many carry cover for misfuelling.
