# Moulton Park: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

Keep the engine and ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103 now — the rest can wait if AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

A drain and a full flush, done just where the vehicle stands around Moulton Park, is usually what it takes if caught before your motor runs.

Here in advance? In that case what follows covers how it happens and what to stop it happening at all.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel car

Plenty of newer diesels on the roads around Moulton Park and Eastfield carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to the engine.

Your exhaust, not the motor, is where AdBlue ends up: dosed into the gas to fresh it, from its own tank.

There's a filler on each tank.

Plenty of cars have a single flap for the two, while others put the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet.

At the pump, the diesel side is topped up constantly.

The AdBlue side is fuelled far less regularly, usually from a bottle, and usually by someone who has to stop and think where it goes.

The mistake grows in that gap between them.

## How AdBlue in your diesel tank occurs in Moulton Park

Three things tend to line up, and carelessness is seldom one of them.

On a drive off Red House Road before work, or in the car park at The Lumbertubs on the way home: that's where the hurried top-up takes place. Why the rush? As AdBlue runs low the vehicle tells you, and once it is gone, limp mode follows.

The old car's cap is where your hand goes — yet a hire car, a new motor or a company car puts the fillers elsewhere. That is a second thing: an unfamiliar vehicle.

Lastly, the spout goes in: a diesel filler or AdBlue filler, it goes in just as readily, and after the tip begins, no part halts it.

The same few seconds decide it, in the middle of Moulton Park or out in Moulton Leys.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

A couple of seconds is all these take — so run through them before you pour anything, on a driveway in Moulton or a forecourt around Moulton Park.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally is not. Read it rather than going by where it sits.

- On plenty of vehicles, size tells: AdBlue has the smaller filler neck.

- Lift the flap and check for a label — plenty of vehicles mark what belongs in which inlet right there.

- Can't see it next to the diesel inlet? In that case look below the bonnet or in your boot — the handbook says where.

- The previous driver knows. Check as you pick up a rental or fleet car — at Northampton's car park, say — not once the light appears.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

For the day the warning comes on — anywhere it is across Northamptonshire — a routine to follow.

- Stop on level, engine off, with time in hand — not rushing on the side of Pond Wood Close.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it works.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Stop once that tank fills or the bottle is empty; before that, pour slowly through its built-in spout.

- Close the cap, and check again — making sure the diesel filler stayed shut throughout. Only then, start the vehicle.

Find during the second or third stage that AdBlue went in the diesel tank? That's where you stop.

Stage five stays off limits.

## Moulton Park: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Do not start the motor: that is where the short order of things begins.

Don't switch your ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

Topping up with diesel won't dilute it: instead, AdBlue sinks to the base of your tank, right where the fuel is drawn from.

At a forecourt — Morrisons Petrol Station, Shell or another — the staff will normally help roll the car away, if you ask.

Leave it where it is if you are on your own driveway in Moulton Park.

When your engine has been run by now, stop safely then switch the car off.

The next exit is the place to leave if you are on the M1, under 10 miles from Moulton Park.

Tell us roughly how far it went: a run towards Milton Keynes, under 25 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across Moulton Park.

## Moulton Park: what happens when our technicians get there

The van comes to the car wherever it has come to rest — your own drive, beside Berserk, or outside Parklands Primary School.

Which fluid was put in, the quantity, and if it ran: our engineers ask since those replies decide the work and quote.

That quote is given on the call, before any van leaves.

Then your tank is cleared and the system cleaned thoroughly.

Much more than with petrol, it matters here: the crystals build up, certain metals corrode, and nothing washes away unaided, however long it is left.

Your filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the car is tested.

Next our engineers start it and make sure it runs properly before we leave.

Most jobs are done in about half an hour once we get there, as long as your motor has not run — and the pumps we use are safe on a live forecourt and quiet after dark beside a house.

The insurer will ask for an engineer's report and your VAT invoice, and both are yours once the job is done. Payment comes on the day, with no deposit.

Wrong-fuel cover is included in plenty of insurance policies — and so use the wait to look at yours.

## Moulton Park and Northamptonshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Moulton Park is a residential suburb, and our vans that cover it also work the places near it, Parklands and Boothville among them, across the NN postcode area.

Quickest of all: give a NN3 6 postcode for our van.

The car doesn't need to move.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street near Parklands Community Centre, a lay-by on the way to Brickyard Spinney, a driveway.

Ring and ask instead of assuming if you are close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to explain, like the back of Benham Sports Arena.

## For Moulton Park drivers, the short version

Always, the cap; after that, the pour.

Still AdBlue in the diesel tank? Petrol in Diesel will empty it where it is, wherever around Northamptonshire: keep it off and call 0333 366 0103.
