# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Netheroyd Hill: How It Happens and How to Prevent It

Stop here for a moment if the diesel tank already has AdBlue in it: ignition off, engine off, then call 0333 366 0103.

Usually, if your motor has not run, it's emptied and fully purged where the car sits around Netheroyd Hill.

Not happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page covers the reasons it occurs and the ways to avoid it altogether.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor, and its separate tank

Diesel feeds the motor — yet plenty of newer diesels driven around Netheroyd Hill and Cowcliffe hold a second liquid too.

The exhaust, not your engine, is where AdBlue ends up: sprayed into the gas to fresh them, from a separate tank.

Each tank has its own filler.

Plenty of motors have a single flap for the two, while others put the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet.

At the petrol pump, your diesel side gets filled all the time.

A driver who has to stop and work out where it goes usually fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less regularly.

The mistake grows in that gap between them.

## Netheroyd Hill: how AdBlue in the diesel tank occurs

Carelessness seldom explains it. Instead is three things coming up together.

On a driveway off Netheroyd Hill Road before work, or in the car park outside The Shepherds Arms heading home: that's where the rushed top-up happens. Why the rush? As AdBlue runs low the car tells you, and once it's empty, limp mode kicks in.

New-to-you motors are second, as well. Hire cars, new cars and company vehicles put their fillers differently, and habit goes for the cap used on the old one.

Nothing stops the pour after it has started, since a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

The same few seconds decide it, in the middle of Netheroyd Hill or out in Fixby.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Before you tip anything, whether on a drive in Fartown Green or a forecourt in Netheroyd Hill, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Position can mislead; the cap does not. AdBlue caps are often blue or bear the word "AdBlue" — diesel caps usually don't.

- The size. On many motors the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- The flap. Look inside your fuel flap for a label. Plenty of motors say there which fuel goes where.

- The handbook says where it lives if the filler is not next to your diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- Whoever had it before knows. Ask when you collect a hire car or fleet car — from Deighton's car park, perhaps — not when the warning comes on.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach your diesel tank

Wherever around West Yorkshire the light comes on, here is a routine for that day.

- Park and switch off. Not on a slope, not with the engine running, and not in a rush on the side of Netherwood Close.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it works.

- The diesel cap remains on. When both sit under a flap, confirm it is shut before lifting the bottle.

- Gently does it, through the bottle's own spout, till it's full or the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check again. Make sure the diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the vehicle.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Never go on to stage five.

## Already put AdBlue in your diesel tank in Netheroyd Hill?

What follows is a short order of things, beginning with no starting your engine.

The fuel pump runs on plenty of diesels the moment your ignition is switched on — so leave it off.

Filling up with diesel will not dilute it: instead, AdBlue sinks to the base of your tank, just where fuel is drawn from.

Ask the attendants to help roll the car away from the petrol pump if you are at a forecourt — the Asda, the Shell or anywhere else.

Leave it where it is if you are on your own drive around Netheroyd Hill.

Where your motor has run already, pull over safely then switch the vehicle off.

On the M62, under a mile from Netheroyd Hill, that means the next exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Hopping across Netheroyd Hill is smaller work than a run of under 10 miles to Bradford, and so say.

## When our technicians arrive around Netheroyd Hill, what occurs?

Outside Fixby Junior and Infant School, near St Hilda's Church, Cowcliffe or on your own driveway: wherever the car has stopped, we come to it.

Those answers decide the work and our quote, so we ask what got in, about how much, and if it's run.

No one sets off before you have heard our quote by phone.

Draining the tank comes next, then a full flush of your system.

More than with petrol, it matters here: crystals build up, certain metals corrode, and nothing washes away on its own, however long it is left.

Filter flushed or, if needed, replaced; clean diesel in; and then a test of your vehicle.

We do not leave until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.

Most jobs are finished in roughly half an hour once we get there, as long as the motor hasn't run — and the pumps our engineers use are safe on a busy forecourt yet quiet at night outside a house.

No money upfront; you settle up on the day. Afterwards, the VAT invoice and the report from the engineer are handed to you for the insurer.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours while we are on the way.

Brackenhall and Woodhouse Hill are among the towns around Netheroyd Hill, a residential suburb, that the same vans cover, over HD postcodes.

Give a postcode beginning HD2 2, and our van gets there quickest.

The vehicle does not need to shift.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street near Cowcliffe Methodist Church, a lay-by on the way to Dick Wood, a drive.

Ring and ask rather than assuming if you are close to a border, or somewhere hard to describe, like the back of St Francis' Church and Community Hall, Fixby.

## For Netheroyd Hill motorists, the short version

Before you tip, read the cap.

Petrol in Diesel empties it on the spot, anywhere across West Yorkshire, if AdBlue has gone in the diesel tank anyway — and so leave the vehicle off then phone 0333 366 0103.
