# New Town: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

Motor off, ignition off: that is where you start if AdBlue has got into the diesel tank.

Urea mixed in water is all AdBlue is.

The trouble starts once it's sucked through the lines — it will not ignite, and it won't combine with diesel.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in New Town, is normally all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before the motor has been run.

No step comes before ringing 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank in New Town

Do these:

- So nobody can turn the ignition on, pull the keys away.

- Near moving traffic? So put the hazards on.

- So you can tell us which liquid it was and roughly how much, keep your receipt or the empty bottle.

- Ring us from where you are. A postcode starting LS9 7, or the name of the closest street, brings our van to you without a search.

Do not do these:

- Not even briefly, and not to shift your vehicle: your engine remains off.

- Don't switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- Don't top up with diesel to thin it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Leave the vehicle where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short way up Lincoln Green Court.

- Don't try to drain it yourself at the kerbside.

Rolling your car away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, whichever New Town forecourt you are on, the Shell included.

On your own drive, do not move it at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into your exhaust gas to fresh it.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, once poured in, will not. Its behaviour is nothing like diesel's.

Denser than diesel, it sinks and collects below it — the same spot the intake draws from.

Simplest of all: one that got AdBlue in Quarry Hill overnight and hasn't been started since. The liquid sits at the foot of your tank, untouched — though it would be the first thing through if your motor starts, before any diesel at all.

It causes two kinds of harm from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps working on the parts it reaches for as long as it stays there.

Overnight, a car sitting around New Town with AdBlue in its lines gets worse; if it's only in that tank, it doesn't.

The water in it causes harm of its own: your high-pressure pump and the injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is regularly worse

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Esso's forecourt leaves your fuel thin — that is the whole problem.

Damage just comes from running on it. Mixed into your diesel and left in your tank, it does nothing.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally wrong substance.

Since it does not burn, running it through isn't an option.

It doesn't stay mixed, so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the engine "to see" costs more here than almost anywhere else, whether your car is in The Leylands or the middle of New Town.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Clearing a tank is the simplest part on any fuel system, and without running, the AdBlue remains in there — anywhere around West Yorkshire the car sits.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around New Town: how it ends up there

After dark, two caps together — the AdBlue cap and the diesel cap, occasionally behind one flap — can appear the same. No one intends it; plenty of layouts invite it.

It usually happens outside the house, from a bottle grabbed en route home, not at the forecourt.

It tends to take place in a few familiar ways.

Hurrying, outside Shakespeare Primary School, after a warning lamp came on during the school run, someone tops up the vehicle.

After work, a bottle is tipped in on a driveway close to Lincoln Green Road.

Else, after dark by The Rose And Crown, the vehicle gets topped up by a driver using that flap the first time.

The least familiar cars get it the most — rentals, brand-new ones, company ones, and the other motor of a home with both fuels.

Wherever in West Yorkshire, New Town included, the mistake does not change, and neither does the first response: leave it off.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in New Town, and the motor started?

Then the AdBlue has left your tank.

Your filter and lines have had it sucked along, and any running carries it on to the injection pump and each injector.

Expect lumpy running, smoke, falling power, lights on your dash, or a stall — coming back from Beckett Street Amenity Corridor, say, or midway across New Town.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and do not restart it to check.

Every start pulls more of it through.

On the Inner Ring Road, under a mile from New Town, the next junction is where to exit, and somewhere safe is where to park — not driving on.

Mileage matters: every mile carries the AdBlue deeper in, and so driving for Leeds, under 3 miles away, gives a far bigger job than crossing New Town to the car park by Lincoln Green Community Centre.

Let us know roughly how far it had come.

Once the motor has been run, the flush includes more, and all of it is done where your car has stopped.

Very rarely does it leave long-term damage when it is caught soon.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in New Town?

We come to the vehicle, wherever it has stopped around New Town: a side street close to The Skate Sanctuary, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

The job depends on three answers, which our technicians ask for first — which fluid was put in, the amount, and whether the motor has turned over.

Then the tank is cleared where the car stands, so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

A careful flush matters far more after AdBlue than after petrol, since residue won't wash out by itself.

After that, your filter: flushed, or replaced when it has to be. After that clean diesel, then a test of your vehicle.

Not run? In that case count on about half an hour on site for most jobs.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Clean diesel goes in to prime your system, and that is the last step.

Whether it is a parking bay outside Leeds or a driveway around New Town, that is where we fire it up and you head off.

Our engineers check it runs correctly on clean diesel before leaving.

No workshop is needed at any stage, with the entire job done on the spot.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers ask for.

## About New Town and where it is

New Town is a suburban area located on the riverside in West Yorkshire, with a relatively low elevation of 40 metres. New Town sits close to the city centre of Leeds, being only 1 mile away, and is near other areas such as Mabgate and Burmantofts. New Town is characterised by its predominantly flat-type housing, which is common in many urban areas of England. New Town is also situated approximately 169 miles north of London, making it a significant residential area in the region.

## AdBlue drains around New Town and across West Yorkshire

Mabgate, Burmantofts and Bank are among the towns near New Town that the same vans reach, along with most of West Yorkshire beyond, throughout the LS postcode area.

Ring and check instead of guessing when you're close to a county line, or anywhere awkward to pin down.

No towing is needed. In New Town, a residential suburb, a mobile service works: the car is drained on the spot, whether in a drive, a side street, a car park or a forecourt.

## New Town: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

There is no honest single price, because the jobs are not the same.

Three things move the cost: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a van can get to it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight spot behind One Community Centre.

For that reason, each call from New Town opens with the same trio — what went in, what quantity, whether it ran — before a quote.

When they are known, a range turns into one fixed figure.

The quote is quoted during the call, before anyone sets off; payment happens on the day, by card or over the phone, and nothing upfront.

Look at your policy whilst we're on the way: many include misfuelling cover.

## Beside your car in New Town, right now?

Then the most useful thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Tell us it was AdBlue, roughly what quantity, and if the engine ran, on 0333 366 0103. From there Petrol in Diesel handles it, in New Town or anywhere in West Yorkshire.
