# Newbold: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

Motor off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank.

Urea dissolved in water is all AdBlue is.

The trouble begins once it's sucked through your pump — it will not ignite, and it won't combine with diesel.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is around Newbold, is generally all AdBlue in a diesel tank takes — if it is caught before the motor has run.

Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in your diesel tank in Newbold

Do these:

- Keys out — then no one can power anything on.

- Near moving traffic? So put the hazard lights on.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the product and the amount, so don't throw it out.

- Give us a postcode starting S41 8, or whatever street lies nearest, and the van reaches you straight — so call wherever you are.

Things not to do:

- No starting your engine — not briefly, not to shift your vehicle.

- Turning the key to ignition by itself starts your pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.

- Adding more diesel doesn't help: AdBlue separates out rather than blending.

- Any driving at all is to be avoided, including a short distance along Linscott Close.

- Draining the tank yourself by the road is not one to try.

Rolling your car away from the pumps is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Newbold forecourt you are on, the Esso included.

Stopped on your own driveway? Then it stays just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for your exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the engine.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

A fuel pump is not designed to cope with it, and AdBlue was never intended to travel through one.

It doesn't combine. Once it's poured into a tank of diesel, AdBlue acts not at all like diesel.

It drops, since it's heavier than diesel, and pools low where the intake draws its supply from.

A car topped up on a driveway in Newbold Moor yesterday evening and not started since is the straightforward one. No pump has pulled the AdBlue up yet — but when the engine turns, that is what is pulled first, straight from the bottom of the tank.

It causes two kinds of harm from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps running on the parts it reaches for as long as it stays there.

If the AdBlue is in the lines, leaving it overnight around Newbold leaves things worse. In the tank alone, time costs nothing.

Water lubricates nothing. The injection pump and each injector depend on diesel running past them, so the water part damages them in its own right.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is regularly worse

Put petrol in a diesel at the Tesco and you have a fault of thin fuel.

Damage only comes from running on it. Blended into the diesel and sitting in that tank, it does none.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid itself is simply the wrong one.

It can't just be run through, because it does not burn.

Deposits and corrosion remain through the following fill, and AdBlue separates again out of your diesel, so thinning it can't work. Hence the flush counts more, and trying the engine "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other mistake — in Brockwell or the centre of Newbold equally.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Wherever across Derbyshire the vehicle has stopped, an unstarted motor means the AdBlue still in the tank: the simplest part of a fuel system to empty.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Newbold

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on many motors sits right next to the diesel filler, sometimes under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Mostly it occurs with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

The ways it occurs are few and familiar.

The refill gets hurried outside Dunston Primary and Nursery Academy, because your dash lit up with a warning while the children were taken in.

A driver tips the bottle in at home, just off Littlemoor, as the day ends.

Or someone unfamiliar with that flap refills your car after dark, parked in the car park outside Nags Head.

It occurs most in the vehicles drivers know least: a hire car, a new car, a company car, or the second motor of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

Wherever you're in Newbold or the rest of Derbyshire, it's the same mistake and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Already started the engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Newbold?

The AdBlue has left that tank, then.

Through the filter, through the lines, and — given any running — into the high-pressure pump and each injector: that's how far it travels.

Lumpy running, smoke, lost power, dashboard warnings or stalling: any might appear, perhaps midway across Newbold or returning from Derwent Crescent Park.

Pull over when safe. Switch off. Leave it off rather than testing it again.

Every start pulls more of that through.

If you were on the M1, under 5 miles from Newbold, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

Distance counts: every mile carries the AdBlue deeper in, and so driving for Sheffield, under 10 miles away, makes a much larger job than crossing Newbold to the car park by Eyre Chapel.

Let us know roughly how far it had come.

Our engineers do all of the cleaning where the car has stopped, and once your engine has been run there is more of it.

Very seldom does it leave lasting damage if it is caught quickly.

## Clearing AdBlue in a diesel around Newbold: what it takes

A road by Newbold Community Association, a drive, a lay-by or a filling station: anywhere your car has come to rest in Newbold, our technicians come to it.

Before anything else our technicians ask what went in, roughly how much, and whether the motor has run, because those replies determine the work.

Right there, the tank is then drained, and both the contaminated diesel and the urea leave as one.

With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing counts: the whole system is cleaned all the way through since residue won't flush out unaided.

Clean diesel goes in after the filter is flushed — or swapped, when it needs to be — and after that the vehicle is tested.

Roughly half an hour once we arrive is typical for most jobs when your motor hasn't run.

Quiet enough for use outside a house at night, and safe on a working forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

Finally, your system is bled with fresh diesel.

Starting the car comes next, and then you set off from where the vehicle is parked, by Chesterfield or on a driveway around Newbold.

We make sure it runs smoothly on new diesel before we go.

Our engineers do it all wherever the car has ended up, and it never has to be taken to a workshop.

Insurers ask for a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come afterwards.

## About Newbold and where it is

Newbold is a suburban area in Derbyshire, situated approximately 9 miles from Sheffield and 132.8 miles from London, at an elevation of around 121 metres. Newbold has a population of around 5175 people and is characterised by predominantly semi-detached housing. Newbold is located near other local places such as The Bungalows, Dunston, and Upper Newbold, and is part of the wider East Midlands region.

## Newbold and Derbyshire: AdBlue drains across the area

The vans that answer AdBlue jobs in Newbold also cover the places round it, The Bungalows, Dunston and Upper Newbold among them, and most of Derbyshire beyond, across the S postcode area.

If you are near a border, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask rather than assuming.

A mobile service fits Newbold, a residential suburb: there's no need to take your vehicle to us, because our technicians drain it on the spot, in a drive, a residential street, a parking area or a filling station.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Newbold: the cost of fixing it

There is no fair single quote, because the jobs are not the same.

The price moves first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that got in. After that it turns on where the car is and whether a van can get to it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight spot behind Hall on the Green.

With that in mind, every call from Newbold opens with the identical trio — what got in, how much, whether it ran — ahead of any figure.

When they are known, a range turns into a single fixed number.

You hear that price on the phone, before anybody sets off, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

As the van is on the way, check your insurance: many cover misfuelling.

## Newbold: still alongside the car?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the car.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, plus if it ran are all we ask. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder throughout Derbyshire, Newbold too.
