# Newport: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, the ignition stays off and so does the motor.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

As it is water-based, it won't burn and never combines with diesel; damage just starts when your pump begins pulling it.

Caught before the engine has been run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Newport.

No step comes before ringing 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in your diesel tank around Newport

Do these:

- So nobody can turn the ignition on, pull the keys out.

- If you are anywhere near moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- Which product, and about what quantity? Hang on to the bottle or the receipt, and our engineers can know.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting SA42 0, or the name of the nearest street, gets the van to you without a search.

Things not to do:

- Shifting the vehicle just a few yards is no reason to fire up your engine.

- Turning your key to ignition alone sets the pump going on many diesels. Avoid it.

- Do not top up with diesel to thin it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Leave the vehicle where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short distance down Market Street.

- Emptying the tank on your own by the road isn't one to try.

Rolling your car away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Newport forecourt you're on, the Murco included.

Stopped on your own driveway? Then it remains just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not the engine.

Stored in a dedicated tank, it is squirted into the exhaust stream to clean the gases.

Nothing inside a fuel pump is designed for this liquid — and none of it was intended to go that way.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after tipped in, won't. The behaviour is nothing like fuel's.

It is heavier than diesel, so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of the tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from.

The first thing your fuel system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Cilgwyn last night, and has not been started since, is still the simple case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

Once it is sucked in, the damage takes two forms.

It attacks certain metals used in fuel systems, attacking whatever it reaches till it's removed completely. And once the water goes, the urea forms crystals that clog filters and settle in tiny passages.

A vehicle left standing in Newport with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank is not.

Diesel protects the injection pump and every injector as it flows; water offers no lubrication, and that is a second kind of harm.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's regularly worse than petrol

Petrol put into a diesel on another forecourt nearby's forecourt makes the fuel thin — that's the whole problem.

Damage just comes from running on it. Blended into your diesel and sitting inside your tank, it causes none.

AdBlue in a diesel is a fault of the wrong substance altogether.

Since it doesn't burn, running it through is not an option.

Whether the vehicle is in Gethsemane or the heart of Newport, firing it up "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other error, and the flush counts for more. Why: it won't remain mixed, and so watering it down fails; and deposits and corrosion outlast the next fill.

With AdBlue, the good news is no separate from petrol.

Clearing a tank is the easiest part on a fuel system, and with no start-up, the AdBlue stays in it — anywhere around Pembrokeshire the vehicle sits.

## Newport: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

It is not deliberate. Plenty of vehicles have the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel inlet, now and then behind one flap, and mixing them up is easy in poor light.

Most of the time it occurs with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

Usually, it occurs in one of a few familiar ways.

Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside the local primary school the refill is hurried.

Close to Bridge Street, someone tips a container in at home after work.

Else, in dim light outside Llwyngwair Arms, the car gets refilled by a driver using that flap for the first time.

The least familiar cars see it most — rentals, new cars, company cars, and the other car of a family with both fuel types.

An identical slip, same first response — leave it switched off — wherever you happen to be around Newport or the remainder of Pembrokeshire.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank around Newport, and the engine started?

In that case, the AdBlue is no longer inside the tank.

The filter and lines have had it sucked along, and any running takes it on to the high-pressure pump and each injector.

You may see your engine running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, possibly on the way back from Newport Links Golf Gourse or halfway across Newport.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart the vehicle to check.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Newport sits under 50 miles from the M4; if you were on it, exit at the first junction and stop somewhere safe rather than driving on.

Every mile carries the AdBlue further into the system. That is why a hop across Newport to park near Ebeneser Chapel and a drive of under 25 miles towards St Davids are very separate jobs.

Let us know about how far it had come.

There's more to flush once the engine has run, and we do all of it where the car has ended up.

Spotted early, it very seldom leaves lasting damage.

## Newport: how AdBlue is emptied from a diesel

A road by Tabernacle Chapel, a drive, a layby or a filling station: anywhere your vehicle has come to rest in Newport, our technicians come to it.

The work depends on three replies, which our engineers get before all else — which fluid was put in, the amount, and if your engine has run.

The contaminated diesel and the urea leave together after that tank is emptied, right there.

Your system is flushed thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind doesn't rinse out on its own.

Testing your car comes last, after clean diesel is added and your filter is flushed or, where necessary, swapped.

The majority of these jobs are a half-hour visit once our technicians turn up, if the motor hasn't run.

Quiet enough to use outside a house at night, and safe on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Lastly, your system is primed with new diesel.

At that point our technicians start the car and you head off, whether from a parking bay at Fishguard Harbour or a driveway around Newport.

It's checked on clean diesel to be sure it runs smoothly before our engineers leave.

As the job is done in its entirety where your car is, a workshop never comes into it.

Afterwards, there is paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice plus a report from the engineer.

## About Newport

Newport is a small coastal town in Pembrokeshire, situated on the north coast of Wales at an elevation of around 35 metres. Newport sits near the mouth of the River Nevern, close to the villages of Parrog and the historic site of Cippin Stone. Newport is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its role as a residential centre for the local community. Newport is located approximately 20 miles from St Davids, the smallest city in the UK.

## AdBlue drains across Pembrokeshire, Newport included

Our teams that answer AdBlue call-outs in Newport also cover the places around it, Parrog, Cippin Stone and Nevern among them, and most of Pembrokeshire beyond, across the SA postcode area.

Ring and ask rather than guess if you're close to a border, or somewhere awkward to explain.

Newport is a coastal town, and a call-out drain suits it: whether your car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, we drain it where it sits, and so it never needs to be moved to us.

## Newport: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Since each callouts vary, a single price would not be fair.

Three things move the cost: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the vehicle is. That last one turns on whether our van can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight space behind Bethlehem Chapel.

That's why every call from Newport starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and whether it has run.

The replies turn a range into a straight quote.

You get that quote by phone, before anyone heads out, and you pay on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

As our engineer is travelling, check your insurance: many include misfuelling.

## Newport: still beside the vehicle?

Right now, the best thing to do with the car is to not touch it.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103 then tell us it's AdBlue, about how much, and if it's run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Newport or anywhere in Pembrokeshire.
