# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Northfields? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then keep the motor off — and the ignition too.

Water with urea mixed in it: that is AdBlue.

The harm begins once it's sucked through your pump — it will not burn, and it won't combine with diesel.

Caught before the engine has run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Northfields.

Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in your diesel tank around Northfields

Do:

- Keys out — that way no one can switch anything on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.

- So you can give us which fluid it was and about how much, keep the till receipt or the empty bottle.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting PE9 1, or the name of the nearest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Not to do:

- Not even briefly, and not to shift the vehicle: the motor stays off.

- The ignition remains off: on many diesels, turning it on is enough to run the fuel pump.

- Don't top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not mix in diesel; it separates out.

- Leave the car where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short distance up Holland Road.

- Don't try to drain the vehicle yourself at the roadside.

Rolling your vehicle off the pumps is a job for staff to help with, wherever Northfields forecourt you are on, the BP included.

If you're on your own drive, leave it exactly where it stands.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

Stored in a separate tank, it's squirted into the exhaust to treat the fumes.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

Inside a diesel tank it acts really differently from fuel. It does not mix in.

It is heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of that tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from.

The first thing your fuel system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Wothorpe last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the easy case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has pulled it in.

From there it does two kinds of damage.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it strands urea that hardens in filters and tiny passages; meanwhile, since it eats at certain metals, each part it touches suffers for as long as it remains in there.

If the AdBlue is in the lines, waiting overnight in Northfields makes it worse. Inside that tank only, time costs nothing.

The water in it does damage of its own: the high-pressure pump and the injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's commonly worse than petrol

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Morrisons's forecourt leaves your fuel watery — that is the whole issue.

Damage just comes from driving on it. Blended into the diesel and left inside the tank, it does none.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid itself is simply the wrong one.

It does not burn, so it can't simply be run through.

Deposits and corrosion remain after the next fill, and AdBlue splits again from your diesel, and so thinning it won't help. Hence the flush counts more, and trying the engine "to see" does more harm here than nearly any other mistake — in Little Casterton or the heart of Northfields alike.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Emptying a tank is the simplest job on a fuel system, and without running, the AdBlue remains in there — anywhere around Lincolnshire your car has stopped.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Northfields: how it ends up there

It's not deliberate. Plenty of vehicles keep the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel one, occasionally behind a single flap, and mixing them up is easy in poor light.

It usually takes place outside the house, from a container bought en route home, not at the forecourt.

It tends to happen in a couple of familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up takes place in a hurry outside St George's Church of England Aided Primary School.

Close to Lindsey Road, a driver pours a container in at home in the evening.

Another pattern: darkness, a pub car park by Mama Liz's, and someone opening that flap the first time.

The least known cars get it the most — rentals, new cars, fleet ones, and the spare motor of a home with both fuel types.

An identical slip, an identical first step — keep it switched off — anywhere you happen to be around Northfields or the rest of Lincolnshire.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Northfields, and the engine started?

Then the AdBlue has left your tank.

Given any running, it travels to the injection pump and every injector, after passing through the filter and pipework.

Expect rough running, exhaust smoke, falling power, lights on your dash, or a cut-out — returning from Stamford School Playing Fields, say, or part way across Northfields.

Pull over when it is safe. Switch off. Keep the vehicle off rather than restarting it to check.

More of that is pulled through with each start.

If you were on the Great North Road, under 15 miles from Northfields, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere sensible instead of pressing on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue further into your system. That is why a hop across Northfields to park near Christ Church and a drive of under 15 miles for Peterborough are very separate jobs.

Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

Once your engine has run, the flush covers more, and all of it is done where the vehicle has stopped.

Very rarely does it leave long-term damage when it is noticed soon.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Northfields?

A road beside Stamford Free Church, a driveway, a layby or a filling station: anywhere the vehicle has come to rest in Northfields, we travel to it.

The work depends on three replies, which our engineers ask for before all else — which fluid was put in, the quantity, and whether your motor has turned over.

Right there, that tank is then drained, and all of the polluted diesel and the urea come out at once.

With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing matters: the fuel system is cleaned right through because what remains will not wash away by itself.

Fresh diesel goes in after the fuel filter is flushed — or swapped, when it needs to be — and after that your car is tested.

If your engine has not run, most jobs take about half an hour once we are there.

Quiet enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a working forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Finally, the fuel system is primed with fresh diesel.

At that point our engineers start the car and you set off, whether from a parking space outside Stamford or a driveway around Northfields.

Before we go, our technicians confirm it's running properly with fresh diesel in.

The whole job is done where your car is, so it never has to be taken to a garage.

The insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — both yours afterwards.

## About Northfields and where it is

Northfields is a suburban area in Lincolnshire, situated inland at an elevation of 58 metres, with terraced housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Northfields lies approximately 11 miles from Peterborough and is also near to Stamford, Newtown, and Newstead. Northfields has a population of around 6018 residents and is located in the East Midlands region, about 80 miles north of London. Northfields is characterized by its residential layout and local amenities.

## AdBlue drains across Lincolnshire, Northfields included

Over the PE postcode area, the vans answering AdBlue jobs around Northfields reach much of Lincolnshire too, Stamford, Newtown and Newstead included.

Close to a border, or somewhere tricky to explain? Asking beats guessing, so phone.

A van that comes to you suits Northfields, a residential suburb: you have no need to take the car to us, since we empty it on the spot, on a drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt.

## Northfields: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

There is no honest single price, because the jobs aren't the same.

The cost moves first with how long, if at all, the motor has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that got in. After that it rests on where the vehicle is and whether a van can reach it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight space behind Stamford Leisure Centre.

Which fluid got in, how much, and whether the engine ran: every Northfields call opens by asking exactly that, before a quote, not after.

With them, the range shrinks to one firm figure.

Our quote is given on the call, before a van leaves; payment happens on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Check your policy whilst we're on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.

## Northfields: still next to the vehicle?

Then the most useful thing you can do is nothing to your car.

Motor off, keys out, ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us it is AdBlue, about how much, and whether it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Northfields or anywhere across Lincolnshire.
