# Avoiding AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Ollerton: Why It Occurs

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your motor and the ignition off and phone 0333 366 0103.

Normally, if your engine has not turned, it's drained and fully rinsed where your car sits around Ollerton.

Not happened yet? Further down, the page explains the why it happens and the how to prevent it altogether.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel motor need its own filler?

Not one liquid but two: that's what plenty of modern diesels around Ollerton and Eaton upon Tern carry, with diesel feeding the engine.

AdBlue goes to your exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to clean it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

Every tank comes with a filler of its own.

Plenty of vehicles have a single flap for both, whereas some put the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet.

Diesel goes in on every forecourt visit, again and again.

The AdBlue side is topped up far less frequently, normally from a bottle, and normally by somebody who has to stop and think where it goes.

That gap is where the mistake lives.

## How does AdBlue in your diesel tank happen around Ollerton?

It is rarely carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

On a driveway off Benbows Close before work, or in the car park at the pub in the village on the way home: that's where the rushed top-up takes place. Why the rush? As AdBlue gets low your car tells you, and if it is gone, limp mode follows.

New-to-you vehicles are second, as well. Hire cars, new cars and company vehicles place their fillers in new places, and the hand goes for the cap it used on the old one.

Nothing stops the tip once it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Ollerton or out in Ollerton Lane.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

Before you tip anything, whether on a drive in Radmoor or a forecourt around Ollerton, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Position misleads; the cap doesn't. AdBlue caps tend to be blue or carry the name "AdBlue" — diesel caps usually do not.

- Many cars give AdBlue the smaller neck of the two.

- Lift the filler flap and look for a label — many motors show what goes in each filler right there.

- The handbook says where it lives if your filler isn't next to your diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- Collecting a hire or company car, say at the car park at Wem? Ask whoever drove it last before you set off, not when the light goes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank

The day the light goes on, anywhere around Shropshire, use this routine.

- Not in a rush on the side of Village Road, not on a slope, not with your motor running: park then switch off first.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it works.

- Leave your diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Using the bottle's own spout, pour slowly — and stop when it's full or the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check again. Make sure the diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the car.

Find at the second or third stage that the bottle went into the diesel filler? That is where you stop.

Don't go on to step five.

## Put AdBlue in the diesel tank in Ollerton already?

Short order, then. Top of that: your engine stays unstarted.

On many diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, and so don't switch the vehicle on.

Don't top up with diesel to dilute it: AdBlue does not mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where the fuel is sucked from.

If you are at a forecourt, whether it's the Shell or the another forecourt nearby, ask the attendants to help roll the vehicle clear of the petrol pump.

Your own drive in Ollerton is where it should stay.

When your engine has been run already, pull over somewhere safe and turn it off.

Ollerton lies under 10 miles from the M54; there, use the first exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Crossing Ollerton is less work than a trip of under 25 miles towards Stoke-on-Trent, and so say.

## When we turn up in Ollerton, what happens?

Our engineers come to your car wherever it has stopped, whether that is outside Stoke-on-Tern Primary School, close to St.Michael or on your own drive.

What fluid was put in, the amount, and if it ran: we ask because those answers decide the work and price.

You get that quote on the phone, before anyone sets off.

After that: draining, then a full flush of the whole system.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own.

The fuel filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

Before we leave, our technicians start the engine and make sure that it's running correctly.

Most jobs are finished in roughly half an hour after our technicians arrive, provided your motor hasn't run — and the pumps our technicians use are fine on a busy forecourt and quiet after dark beside a house.

Paying happens on the day, not upfront, and you are given the documents an insurer asks for: an engineer's report and a VAT invoice.

It is worth checking your policy while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with plenty of policies.

The car does not need to move.

Anywhere it stands — near Chapel of the Epiphany, in a lay-by en route to Willow Coppice, at home — that is where it is cleared.

Assuming doesn't help behind Childs Ercall Village Club, close to a boundary, or somewhere awkward to describe; ring and ask.
