# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Parkside: How It Occurs and How to Stop It

Leave your engine and ignition off and ring 0333 366 0103 first — the rest can wait if AdBlue is already in the diesel tank.

A drain plus a thorough flush, done just where the vehicle stands in Parkside, is normally all it needs if caught before your engine runs.

The rest of this page explains why it happens and how to make sure it doesn't — handy if you're reading ahead of time.

## AdBlue in a diesel car: two tanks, two fillers

Diesel goes to the engine — but many modern diesels seen around Parkside and Shawstonfoot hold a second fluid as well.

Your exhaust, not the engine, is where AdBlue goes: sprayed into the fumes to clean it, from a separate tank.

There's a filler for every tank.

Under one flap, next to each other: that's the layout on many cars. Elsewhere, AdBlue's filler sits under the bonnet or in the boot instead.

At the petrol pump, your diesel side gets filled all the time.

The AdBlue side is fuelled far less regularly, usually from a bottle, and normally by someone who has to stop and think where it goes.

The mistake grows in that gap between the two.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank takes place around Parkside

Carelessness rarely explains it. Instead is three things lining up at once.

Hurry comes from the warning. The car warns you as AdBlue runs low, and an empty tank puts it into limp mode — so the top-up happens in a rush, before work on a driveway off Wilsgait Street, or on the way home in the car park outside Kelly's.

The old car's filler is where your hand goes — yet a hire car, a new vehicle or a company car keeps the fillers elsewhere. That is a second factor: a strange vehicle.

Third, the spout fits: a diesel filler or AdBlue filler, it goes in as easily, and after the pour starts, nothing halts it.

Cleland or the middle of Parkside: it takes the same few seconds either way.

## The AdBlue filler and your diesel filler: telling them apart

Whether a Parkside forecourt or a driveway out in Newarthill, take a few seconds over these before anything goes in.

- Where it sits can mislead; the cap does not. AdBlue caps tend to be blue or bear the name "AdBlue" — diesel ones normally don't.

- On plenty of vehicles, the size gives it away: AdBlue gets the smaller filler neck.

- Lift the filler flap and look for a label — plenty of cars show what belongs in each inlet right there.

- The handbook. If the filler is not by your diesel cap, it's in the boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- Ask the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — if you pick up a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park at Cleland.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

When the light goes on, anywhere around North Lanarkshire, follow this routine.

- Stop on level, engine off, with time to spare — not rushing on the side of Tranent Place.

- Locate the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and say the name "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It sounds silly. It works.

- Leave your diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Using the bottle's own spout, pour slowly — and stop when it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap, and check once more — making sure your diesel filler remained shut throughout. Only then, start the vehicle.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into the diesel side, stop there.

Stage five is off limits.

## Parkside: already put AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Do not start your motor: that's where the short order of things begins.

Keep your ignition off too, because on plenty of diesels it by itself runs your pump.

Thinning it with extra diesel fails, since AdBlue settles to the bottom rather than blending — and that's where the fuel is sucked from.

The staff at JET, Esso or another forecourt will normally lend a hand pushing the vehicle away if asked.

At home around Parkside? Then the vehicle remains where it is.

Stop as soon as it is safe then switch off, if the motor has already run.

Leave the M8 — under 3 miles out of Parkside — at the first exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Crossing Parkside is less a job than a run of under 15 miles to Glasgow, so say.

## Parkside: what occurs when our engineers get there

The van reaches the car anywhere it has come to rest — your own driveway, beside War Memorial, or by the local primary school.

The answers settle the work and our quote, so our engineers ask what got in, roughly how much, and if it has run.

During the call itself, you hear our quote — ahead of anything else.

Emptying that tank comes next, followed by a full flush of the fuel system.

More than with petrol, it matters here: crystals form, certain metals are attacked, and nothing washes away on its own, however long it is left.

Once the fuel filter is flushed — or replaced, if needed — fresh diesel is added, and then your car gets tested.

Next we start the engine and check it runs properly before leaving.

If your motor has not run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once we are there, using pumps that are fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

It is worth checking your insurance while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with plenty of policies.

## Parkside and North Lanarkshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Parkside is a residential suburb, and our vans that cover it also work the places near it, Knownoble and Bellside among them, across the ML postcode area.

Fastest of all: quote a ML1 5 postcode for our van.

Moving the vehicle isn't needed.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street near Cleland Parish - Church of Scotland, a lay-by on the way to Rattler Strip, a driveway.

If you are near a border, or somewhere hard to describe like the back of Cleland Library, ring and ask instead of assuming.

## The short version for Parkside motorists

Tip nothing till you have read the cap.

If AdBlue has gone in the diesel tank all the same, leave the vehicle off and call 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel empties it where it sits, anywhere around North Lanarkshire.
