# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Penfilia? Don't Start It

With AdBlue in the diesel tank, the ignition remains off and so does the engine.

Urea dissolved in water is what AdBlue is.

As it is water-based, it will not burn and won't blend with diesel; trouble just comes once your pump begins pulling it.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Penfilia, is usually all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before your engine has been run.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank around Penfilia: the first few minutes

Do:

- So no one can turn your ignition on, pull the keys out.

- Close to moving traffic? Then put the hazard lights on.

- So you can give us which fluid it was and about what quantity, save your receipt or the empty bottle.

- The van finds you quickest with a postcode starting SA5 9, or simply the name of a street close by, so phone from the spot.

Don't do these:

- No starting your motor — not briefly, not to reposition your car.

- Switching your key to ignition by itself sets the pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.

- No extra fuel added. The AdBlue will not blend, and so it is wasted.

- Keep the vehicle where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short stretch up Hollett Road.

- Draining the tank on your own beside the road isn't one to try.

Moving the car off the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Penfilia forecourt you are on, the Texaco or any other.

At your own driveway, do not touch it at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Made for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in the motor.

From a dedicated reservoir it goes directly to the exhaust, treating what your engine lets out.

No part in an injection pump is made for this fluid — and no part of it was intended to travel through one.

Poured in with the diesel, it keeps separate instead of mixing — entirely different from fuel.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and collects underneath it — the same spot the pickup sucks from.

Once your system runs, the AdBlue is first to go through. Until then it sits underneath the diesel, which is how a car filled in Waun-Gron last night and never switched on remains the straightforward one, as long as nobody turns your key.

Two kinds of harm follow from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it strands urea that crystallises in filters and narrow channels; and, since it eats at some metals, each part it reaches suffers for as long as it stays in there.

Pipes carrying AdBlue spell harm overnight for a vehicle parked in Penfilia. Just in the tank, it stays stable.

And there is the water: it brings no lubrication to the parts that rely on it most — the high-pressure pump and every injector.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is commonly more significant than petrol

An issue of thin fuel is what you get after fuelling a diesel with petrol at the Murco.

Damage only comes from driving on it. Mixed into your diesel and sitting in the tank, it does nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is a fault of the wrong substance altogether.

Since it does not burn, running it through is not an option.

Whether your vehicle is in Tre-boeth or the heart of Penfilia, firing it up "to see" costs more in this case than almost any other mistake, and the flush matters more. The reasons: it will not remain mixed, so watering it down fails; and crystals and corrosion outlast the following fill.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Not started? Then the AdBlue sits just in your tank, the simplest bit of the entire system to empty, wherever your car has stopped in Swansea.

## Penfilia: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of vehicles waits right next to the diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

A bottle picked up while driving home and poured in at home, instead of at the forecourt, is the usual route.

Mostly, it takes place in one of a couple of familiar ways.

The refill gets hurried outside the local primary school, after your dash flashed with a warning while the kids were taken off.

A driver pours the bottle in outside their house, just off Tudor Road, as the day ends.

One more pattern: darkness, the car park by Dillwyn Arms, and a driver opening that flap for the first time.

Hired cars, brand-new motors, company motors, or the second vehicle in a home with one of each: the least familiar cars see it the most.

An identical mistake, an identical first response — leave it switched off — wherever you are in Penfilia or the remainder of Swansea.

## Already started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Penfilia?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank.

Via your filter, along the lines, and — given any running — on to the injection pump and each injector: that's where it has gone.

Expect lumpy running, smoke, lost power, lights on the dash, or a cut-out — returning from Manselton Park, say, or midway across Penfilia.

Pull over when safe. Turn off. Keep the car off rather than testing it again.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Exit the M4, under 3 miles from Penfilia, at the next junction and park safely, not carrying on.

How far it went counts. A couple of hundred yards across Penfilia to the car park by Brynhyfryd Library is a very different job from a run towards Swansea, under 3 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with every mile.

Tell us about how far it had come.

There's more to rinse out once the motor has been run, and our engineers do all of it where your car has ended up.

Very seldom does it leave lasting damage when it's noticed early.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Penfilia?

We come to the car, wherever it has stopped around Penfilia: a side street near Christ Well URC, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Before anything else we ask what was put in, about how much, and if your motor has been run, since those replies decide this work.

Then the tank is cleared where your car waits, so the contaminated fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, the flush counts: the whole system is flushed all the way through since residue will not wash out by itself.

Your filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

Not run? In that case count on roughly half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

Low-noise enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a working forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

Priming the fuel system with new diesel comes last.

Firing it up comes next, and then you head off from where your car is parked, by Swansea or on a drive around Penfilia.

Our technicians check it runs correctly on new diesel before we leave.

No garage is needed at any point, with the entire job done then and there.

Your insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and your VAT invoice — both yours afterwards.

Phone and ask rather than guess if you're by a border, or anywhere tricky to pin down.

## Penfilia: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Not one single figure could be honest, because every job is different.

Whether the engine has been running, and for how long, comes first in what shifts the price. How much AdBlue went in comes next, and then the location of your car, since an open drive is simpler for our van to get to safely than a tight spot behind Penlan Community Centre and Library.

That's why each call from Penfilia starts with the same three queries, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and if it has run.

The answers turn a range into a straight quote.

Our quote is given on the call, before anyone sets off; payment happens on the day, by card or over the phone, and nothing upfront.

Check your policy while we are on the way: plenty include misfuelling cover.

## Still next to the car in Penfilia?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the car.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder, in Penfilia or wherever within Swansea, once you ring 0333 366 0103 saying it's AdBlue, roughly what quantity, and whether it ran.
