# Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Penyard

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then keep the engine off — and your ignition too.

Urea dissolved in water is all AdBlue is.

Unlike fuel, it neither ignites nor mixes, and nothing happens till your motor sucks it round.

Caught before your engine has run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Penyard.

Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

## Penyard, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do right away

To do:

- So nobody can switch the ignition on, pull the keys out.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is anywhere near.

- The empty bottle or the receipt shows us the fluid and the amount, so do not throw it away.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting CF47 0, or the name of the nearest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Not to do:

- No starting your motor — not for a second, not to reposition the car.

- Plenty of diesels power their pump the moment the ignition comes on, and so leave the vehicle off.

- No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue won't blend, so it's pointless.

- Keep the car where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short distance down Baden Terrace.

- No emptying it yourself, either, on the roadside.

Rolling the car off the island is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Penyard forecourt you're on, the Esso or any other.

On the drive, the car stays just where it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

The motor is not what AdBlue is made for; the exhaust is.

From a dedicated reservoir it goes straight to the exhaust, treating what the motor emits.

No part in an injection pump is designed for this fluid — and none of it was intended to go that way.

It doesn't blend. Once it's poured into a tank of diesel, AdBlue acts nothing like diesel.

It drops, since it's heavier than diesel, and settles down where the intake takes its supply from.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Mountain Hare last night, and has not been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of that tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

From there it causes two kinds of damage.

What remains when the water goes is urea, which turns into crystals: they settle in tiny passages and clog filters. Worse, it eats at some metals in a fuel system, and keeps going till it is flushed out.

A car left sitting in Penyard with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank is not.

Then there is the water: it brings no lubrication to the parts that need it most — the injection pump and each injector.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel often the bigger problem?

A problem of thinned fuel is what you get from filling a diesel with petrol at the Applegreen.

No damage comes as long as it sits unused, mixed into your diesel — only when the engine runs on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid as such is plainly the wrong one.

Not burning, it cannot just be run through.

It does not stay mixed, so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the motor "to see" costs more here than almost anywhere else, whether your car is in Thomas Town or the middle of Penyard.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Clearing a tank is the simplest part on a fuel system, and with no start-up, the AdBlue remains in there — wherever across Merthyr Tydfil the car sits.

## Penyard: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

It's not on purpose. Many cars have the AdBlue inlet alongside the diesel inlet, now and then behind one flap, and mixing them up is easy in poor light.

Most of the time it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

A few familiar ways cover the majority of them.

Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside the local primary school the refill is hurried.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Fothergill Street.

Or the car is topped up in the car park at The Anchor, in poor light, by someone who has never opened that flap before.

The least known vehicles see it most — hire cars, brand-new ones, fleet cars, and the spare vehicle of a family with both fuels.

Wherever in Merthyr Tydfil, Penyard included, the slip does not change, and nor does the first response: leave it off.

## Penyard: started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

The AdBlue has left your tank, then.

Your filter and lines have had it sucked along, and some running carries it on to the high-pressure pump and each injector.

Rough running, smoke, lost power, dashboard lights or stalling: any might show up, maybe midway across Penyard or returning from Old Thomastown Park.

When safe, pull over and turn everything off — without restarting to see.

More of that is pulled through with each start.

Leave the M4, under 25 miles from Penyard, by the next junction and park safely, not carrying on.

Hopping across Penyard to the car park by Trevithick Memorial is one thing; heading for Newport, under 25 miles away, is another, because every mile carries the AdBlue deeper in. So distance matters.

Let us know roughly how far it had come.

Our technicians do all of the rinsing where your car has ended up, and once the engine has run there is more of it.

Noticed quickly, it very rarely leaves long-term damage.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel around Penyard: what it takes

We come to your car, wherever it has stopped in Penyard: a side street close to Sir W.T. Lewis, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

The work rests on three replies, and we get first — which fluid was put in, the quantity, and whether the motor has run.

On the spot, your tank is then drained, and both the contaminated diesel and the urea come out at once.

Residue from AdBlue will not flush out unaided, so the fuel system gets a full flush, which counts much more with urea than with petrol.

A test of the car comes last, once clean diesel goes in and the filter is flushed or, where necessary, swapped.

The majority of these jobs are a half-hour job once our engineers turn up, provided your engine has not run.

Low-noise enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a busy forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

Fresh diesel goes in to bleed your system, and that's the last step.

Starting the car comes next, and then you head off from where your car is parked, outside Merthyr Tydfil or on a drive around Penyard.

Before leaving, we make sure it is running correctly with fresh diesel in.

No workshop is needed at any point, with the whole job done on the spot.

At the end, there is paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice plus a written report from the engineer.

## About Penyard itself

Penyard is a suburban area situated on the riverside in Merthyr Tydfil, with a mix of terraced housing and a population of around 4352 residents. Penyard sits at an elevation of 243 metres, overlooking the surrounding landscape. Penyard is located near other local places such as Incline Top, Pen-y-Darren, and Penyrheol, and is approximately 19.5 miles from Newport. Penyard forms part of the wider urban area in the region, with easy access to nearby cities.

## AdBlue drains across Penyard and Merthyr Tydfil

AdBlue call-outs in Penyard go to vans that serve the towns near it — Incline Top, Pen-y-Darren plus Penyrheol — and much of Merthyr Tydfil beyond, across CF postcodes.

Near a boundary, or anywhere awkward to pin down? Checking is better than guessing, and so ring.

No moving is needed. In Penyard, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you fits: your car is emptied on the spot, whether on a driveway, a residential street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## Penyard: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

No single figure could be honest, since each job differs.

Three things change the price: whether the engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight gap behind Merthyr Town F.C..

Before a quote, not after, every enquiry from Penyard begins with three checks: the fuel, the quantity, and if it ran.

Once those are known, a range turns into a single fixed figure.

Quoted on the call before the engineer heads out, the job is settled that day — card or phone, nothing in advance.

Misfuelling cover comes with plenty of insurance policies, so it pays to look at yours before the van arrives.

## Penyard: still next to the car?

Then, touch nothing — that's the most helpful move available.

Keys out; motor and ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103 and tell us it's AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, around Penyard or anywhere around Merthyr Tydfil.
