# Why It Occurs and How to Prevent It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Penyrheol

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your motor and the ignition off and ring 0333 366 0103.

Caught before your motor runs, it is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Penyrheol.

Not happened yet? Below, the rest of the page covers the reasons it takes place and the ways to avoid it for good.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor, and its separate tank

Not one liquid but two: that's what plenty of modern diesels around Penyrheol and Sketty run, with diesel feeding your engine.

Your exhaust, not the motor, is where AdBlue ends up: sprayed into the fumes to fresh them, from a separate tank.

Every tank has a filler of its own.

Some cars put the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; a lot of others have the two side by side behind one flap.

The diesel side is fuelled at the pump all the time.

Someone who has to stop and work out where it goes normally fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less commonly.

It is in that gap that the mistake happens.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank occurs around Penyrheol

Rarely is it carelessness: usually three things line up.

First, the warning. Low AdBlue brings a message from the car, and running dry means limp mode — so a hurried top-up, maybe before work off Beaconsfield Court, or at Hen Dderwen on the way home that evening.

The old car's filler is where the hand goes — yet a hire car, a new motor or a company car keeps the fillers elsewhere. That is the second factor: a strange vehicle.

No part halts the pour once it has started, since a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

It's seconds, whether in Olchfa or right in the centre of Penyrheol.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

A couple of seconds is all these take — so check them before you pour anything, on a driveway in Cwm Gwyn or a forecourt around Penyrheol.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is regularly blue, or marked "AdBlue". The diesel cap normally is not. Read it rather than going by position.

- The size. On plenty of motors the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- Lift the filler flap and check for a label — many motors show what belongs in each filler just there.

- The handbook shows which it is when your filler isn't next to your diesel cap: your boot, or under the bonnet.

- The person who drove the car last. On a hire or company car collected from somewhere like the car park at Swansea, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach your diesel tank

Anywhere in Swansea the light comes on, here is a routine for that day.

- Pull in on level, engine off, with time in hand — not rushing on the side of Laburnham Place.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it does the trick.

- The diesel cap remains on. Where the two sit under a flap, make sure it is shut before lifting the bottle.

- Finish when the tank is topped up or the bottle is empty; before that, pour gently using the own spout.

- Only after that, start the car: close the cap, check once more, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Don't go on to stage five.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank already, in Penyrheol?

Then the order of things is short. Do not start your motor.

The fuel pump runs on plenty of diesels the moment your ignition goes on — and so keep it off.

Filling up with diesel won't dilute it: instead, AdBlue drops to the base of the tank, right where the fuel is taken from.

At a forecourt — Shell, Texaco or any other — the staff will usually help push the car clear, when you ask.

If you're on your own drive around Penyrheol, leave it where it stands.

When the engine has run by now, pull over somewhere safe and turn the car off.

The next junction means where to come off when you are on the M4, under 5 miles from Penyrheol.

A short hop across Penyrheol is a smaller job than a run towards Swansea, under 3 miles away, and so tell us roughly how far it went.

## Our arrival in Penyrheol, and what takes place next

We come to your car wherever it has stopped, whether that's outside the local primary school, close to Sketty Park Community Centre or on your own driveway.

What liquid got in, the quantity, and if it ran: our technicians ask because those answers set both work and quote.

During the call itself, you are told our price — ahead of anything else.

Emptying the tank comes next, followed by a full flush of your system.

Unlike petrol, AdBlue leaves crystals and eats at some fuel-system metals, and neither washes away by itself. That is why it matters more.

Once the filter has been flushed — or replaced, if required — clean diesel is added, and finally the car gets tested.

We don't go until it has been started and is running properly.

Most jobs are finished in about half an hour once our technicians arrive, provided the engine hasn't run — and the pumps we use are fine on a live forecourt and quiet at night outside a house.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

It's worth checking your insurance as the van travels to you: misfuelling cover comes with plenty of policies.

Shifting your car isn't needed.

Draining happens right there, whether a driveway, a road near Holy Trinity, or a lay-by towards Hendrefoilan Woods.

Tricky to pin down, like the back of Parklands Church? By a county line? Checking is better than guessing, so phone.

Always, the cap; after that, the pour.

AdBlue in your diesel tank regardless? Keep it off then phone 0333 366 0103; Petrol in Diesel empties it where it stands, throughout Swansea.
