# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Penywaun? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, keep the motor off then leave the ignition off.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

Not like fuel, it neither ignites nor mixes, and no harm starts till your motor sucks it through.

In Penywaun, AdBlue in a diesel tank caught before your motor runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where the vehicle is.

Phone 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in your diesel tank in Penywaun

Do these:

- Keys out — then no one can power anything on.

- Put the hazards on if you're at all near moving traffic.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the fluid and the amount, and so do not throw it out.

- Give us a postcode starting CF44 9, or whatever street lies closest, and the van finds you directly — so ring wherever you stand.

Things not to do:

- Shifting your vehicle even a few yards is no reason to fire up your motor.

- Do not switch the ignition on. On plenty of diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- No more fuel on top. The AdBlue won't mix, so it is wasted.

- Keep the vehicle where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short distance down Cwmdare Road.

- Emptying the tank yourself beside the road is not worth trying.

Rolling the car off the pumps is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Penywaun forecourt you are on, the Tesco included.

Stopped on your own drive? Then it stays just where it is.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not the engine.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it is sprayed into your exhaust, where it cleans the fumes.

A fuel pump is not made to take it, and AdBlue was never intended to go through one.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves very differently from fuel. It does not mix in.

It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of the tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Tre-Ifor last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has sucked it in.

Two kinds of damage follow from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it leaves urea that crystallises in filter elements and narrow channels; meanwhile, since it attacks some metals, every part it touches suffers for as long as it remains in there.

Overnight, a car parked around Penywaun with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; if it's just inside your tank, it doesn't.

Diesel protects the injection pump and each injector as it passes; water gives none of that, and that is a separate kind of damage.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Texaco's forecourt makes the fuel watery — that's the whole issue.

Mixed through your diesel and left still, it's no threat at that stage; running the motor is the harm.

AdBlue in a diesel is an issue of the wrong substance altogether.

It doesn't burn, and so it cannot just be run through.

Whether your car is in Tre-Gibbon or the heart of Penywaun, firing it up "to see" costs more in this case than nearly any other slip, and the flush matters more. The reasons: it will not stay blended, and so watering it down fails; and deposits and corrosion survive the next tankful.

As with petrol, there's good news.

Clearing a tank is the easiest part on a fuel system, and without running, the AdBlue remains in it — wherever across Rhondda Cynon Taf the car sits.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Penywaun

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of motors rests right next to your diesel filler, at times under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Mostly it's not the filling station: a driver picks up a bottle heading home and pours it in at home.

Mostly, it occurs in one of a few familiar ways.

The refill gets rushed outside the local primary school, after your dash lit up with a warning as the kids were taken in.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off A4059.

Or a driver unfamiliar with that flap refills your vehicle after dark, stopped in the car park outside Bridgend Inn.

It takes place most in the motors motorists know least: a hire car, a new vehicle, a company car, or the second vehicle of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

Wherever you're around Penywaun or the rest of Rhondda Cynon Taf, it's the same slip and the same first answer: leave it off.

## Penywaun: started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

The AdBlue has left the tank, then.

With any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, after passing via the filter and lines.

Rough running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or cutting out: any may appear, perhaps part way across Penywaun or coming back from Llwydcoed Memorial Park.

No starting it again to test: stop once it is safe, then switch everything off.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

If you were on the M4, under 15 miles from Penywaun, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere sensible rather than pressing on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Penywaun to the car park by Dare Community Sports Hall is a very different job from a run towards Swansea, under 25 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with every mile.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

Once the engine has been run, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where the vehicle has ended up.

Permanent damage is very uncommon if it's noticed soon.

## What clearing AdBlue from a diesel involves around Penywaun

Our engineers come to the vehicle, wherever it has stopped around Penywaun: a side street near Saint James' Church, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

What got in, about how much, and if your motor has been run: our technicians ask first, since those decide the job.

Then that tank is emptied where the car stands, and so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

The system is rinsed thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind doesn't rinse out on its own.

Next, the fuel filter: cleaned, or replaced if it has to be. After that clean diesel, and then a test of the car.

Engine not run? Then count on roughly half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

Quiet enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a working forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

The last step is to bleed the fuel system on new diesel.

Whether it is a parking bay by Aberdare or a drive around Penywaun, that is where our engineers fire it up and you set off.

It's checked on clean diesel to be sure it runs properly before our engineers go.

Because the job is done in full where the vehicle is, a garage never comes into it.

Afterwards, you are given the paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice plus a report from the engineer.

## AdBlue drains across Penywaun and Rhondda Cynon Taf

Cwmdare, Llwydcoed and Trecynon are among the towns near Penywaun that the same teams serve, along with much of Rhondda Cynon Taf further out, over the CF postcode area.

Assuming doesn't help by a county line or somewhere tricky to describe; ring and check.

No moving is needed. In Penywaun, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you works: the vehicle is drained on the spot, whether on a drive, a residential street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Penywaun: the cost of fixing it

There is no fair single price, since the jobs are not the same.

Three things shift the price: whether the engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where your car is. That last one rests on whether our van can get to it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight gap behind St Fagan's Church.

Which fluid was put in, how much, plus whether it ran: every Penywaun enquiry begins with exactly those, ahead of a figure, not after.

Those replies turn a range into a straight quote.

The quote is given on the call, before anyone leaves; payment happens on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

As our engineer is travelling, dig out your insurance: plenty cover misfuelling.

## Penywaun: still next to the car?

Right now, the most helpful thing to do with the car is to not touch it.

Motor off, keys out, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, the amount, plus if it ran is all we need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Penywaun too.
