# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Pershore: How It Occurs and How to Stop It

Pause reading a minute if your diesel tank already has AdBlue in it: ignition off, engine off, and ring 0333 366 0103.

Caught before the motor runs, it's usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Pershore.

The rest of this page explains why it happens and how to ensure it doesn't — handy if you're reading ahead of time.

## AdBlue in a diesel vehicle: two tanks, two fillers

Not one liquid but two: that is what many modern diesels near Pershore and Walcot run, with diesel for the motor.

Your exhaust, not your motor, is where AdBlue goes: sprayed into the gas to clean them, from its own tank.

Separate tanks, different fillers.

On a lot of cars the two sit side by side under the same flap; on others the AdBlue filler is in the boot or under the bonnet.

Diesel gets filled on every forecourt visit, again and again.

Much less frequently, the AdBlue side is filled — normally from a bottle, by a person working out where it goes.

The mistake grows in that gap between the two.

## Pershore: how AdBlue in your diesel tank takes place

Three things tend to come together, and carelessness is rarely one of them.

On a driveway off High Street before work, or in the car park at The New Inn on the way home: that is where the hurried top-up happens. What is the reason for the rush? As AdBlue gets low the car warns you, and if it is empty, limp mode follows.

Next, the hand goes for the cap it knew on the old vehicle — since a rental car, a new motor or a company car puts the fillers where your last one did not.

Third, the bottle goes in: diesel filler or AdBlue one, it goes in just as readily, and once the pour starts, no part stops it.

Wick or the heart of Pershore: it is the same few seconds in both.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

Before you pour anything, whether on a drive in Pinvin or a forecourt around Pershore, check these. They take a few seconds.

- Blue and marking: an AdBlue cap is often blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap usually doesn't. Trust the cap, not its position.

- The size. On plenty of cars the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- Look inside your fuel flap: plenty of cars carry a label there saying which fuel goes where.

- Cannot see it next to your diesel filler? Then look below the bonnet or in your boot — the handbook says which.

- The person who drove it last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park at the nearest station, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank

For the day the light comes on — wherever you are around Worcestershire — a simple routine to use.

- Switch off once parked — flat ground, motor off, and not rushed by Church Walk on the verge.

- Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew the cap, once finding the AdBlue filler and read it. Silly, yes, yet it works.

- If both sit under one flap, check your diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — and leave it on.

- Gently is best, through the bottle's own spout, till it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check once more. Make sure your diesel cap was never opened. Only then start your car.

Find at stage two or three that it has already gone into your diesel side? Then stop right there.

Never go on to stage five.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank already, around Pershore?

What follows is a short order of things, starting with no starting your engine.

Don't switch the ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

Thinning it with more diesel won't work, because AdBlue sinks to the bottom rather than mixing — and that's where the fuel is drawn from.

If you are at a forecourt, whether it's the BP or the Esso, ask the attendants to help push your car clear of the pump.

Leave it where it is if you are on your own driveway around Pershore.

Stop as soon as it is safe then switch off, if the engine has already run.

The next junction means where to leave if you're on the M5, under 5 miles from Pershore.

A short hop across Pershore is a smaller job than a run towards Worcester, under 10 miles away, and so tell us about how far it went.

## Pershore: what happens when our technicians get there

Anywhere the vehicle has stopped, whether outside Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary School, beside William Chapman or on your own drive, the van comes to it.

Which liquid got in, the amount, and whether it ran: we ask since the replies decide the work and price.

During the phone call itself, you are told the quote — before dispatch.

Next: draining, then a full flush of the entire system.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it does not wash out on its own.

The filter flushed or, where it must be, replaced; clean diesel in; and then a test of the vehicle.

Next we fire it up and confirm it runs properly before we go.

Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour once we get there, as long as your engine has not run — and the pumps our engineers use are fine on a live forecourt and quiet after dark beside a house.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

It's worth looking at your insurance while we travel to you: misfuelling cover comes with plenty of policies.

Moving your car isn't necessary.

Our engineers drain it where it is — a side street near Twinning Anniversary 2004, a lay-by on the way to Saint Andrews Gardens, a driveway.

If you are close to a border, or somewhere hard to describe like the back of Town Hall Clock, ring and ask rather than assuming.
