# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Queen Camel: Why It Occurs

Stop reading for a moment if the diesel tank already has AdBlue in it: ignition off, engine off, then phone 0333 366 0103.

Usually, when the motor has not run, it's emptied and fully rinsed where the vehicle sits in Queen Camel.

Here in advance? In that case what follows covers why it comes about and what to prevent it happening at all.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel motor

Plenty of modern diesels on the roads about Queen Camel and Camel Hill carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to the motor.

Stored in a tank of its own, AdBlue is fed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

Each tank has its own filler.

Other cars keep the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; plenty of others place both together under one flap.

At the pump, your diesel side is topped up all the time.

The AdBlue side is fuelled far less regularly, usually from a bottle, and normally by someone who has to stop and think where it goes.

It is in that gap that the slip lives.

## How AdBlue in your diesel tank happens around Queen Camel

Carelessness rarely explains it. What does is three things coming up at once.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low the vehicle tells you, and if it runs out altogether, the car drops into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off A359 before work, or in the car park at Mildmay Arms on the way home.

Then, the hand goes for the cap it knew on the old motor — since a hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers somewhere your last one did not.

A spout-topped bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. And so the tip, once started, keeps on.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Queen Camel or out in Sparkford Hill.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

Look at these before pouring, at a forecourt in Queen Camel or a drive out in Weston Bampfylde. A few seconds, that's all.

- Blue and lettering: an AdBlue cap is often blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap usually does not. Go by the cap, not where it sits.

- On plenty of vehicles, the size tells: AdBlue gets the smaller filler neck.

- Lift the filler flap and look for a label — many motors show what goes in which inlet right there.

- The handbook says where it is if the filler is not next to the diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- The person who drove the vehicle last. On a hire or company car collected from somewhere like the car park outside Yeovil Pen Mill, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching the diesel tank

When the light goes on, anywhere in Somerset, use this routine.

- Not in a rush on the side of High Street, not on a slope, not with the engine running: park then switch off first.

- Find the AdBlue filler, check the cap, and say the name "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It sounds daft. It works.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Pour slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Only then, start the car: close the cap, check a second time, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

Spot at stage two or three that it's already gone into your diesel side? Then stop right there.

Stage five is off limits.

## Queen Camel: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Don't start your engine: that's how the short order of things starts.

Keep the ignition off too, since on plenty of diesels it by itself starts the pump.

AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where your fuel is drawn from — so do not top up with diesel to thin it.

The attendants at Shell, Esso or another forecourt will usually lend a hand pushing the car clear if you ask.

Leave it where it is if you're on your own driveway around Queen Camel.

If your motor has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

Queen Camel lies under 25 miles from the M5; there, use the next junction.

Tell us roughly how far it went: a run towards Wells, under 15 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across Queen Camel.

## When our technicians arrive in Queen Camel, what happens?

Anywhere your car came to rest, be it outside Countess Gytha Primary School, beside St Barnabas or on your own drive, our van travels to it.

Our engineers ask what got in, about how much, and whether it's run, since the replies determine the work and our quote.

During the call itself, you are told the price — before anything else.

Draining that tank comes next, followed by a thorough flush of the fuel system.

Not like petrol, AdBlue leaves crystals and attacks some fuel-system metals, and neither washes out unaided. That is why it counts more.

Filter flushed or, if needed, replaced; fresh diesel in; and then a test of the vehicle.

Next we start it and confirm it runs properly before we go.

Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour once our technicians get there, provided the motor has not run — and the pumps our engineers use are safe on a busy forecourt yet quiet after dark beside a house.

Payment is on the day, not upfront, and you receive the paperwork your insurer wants: an engineer report and a VAT invoice.

While we travel, have a look at your policy; many carry cover for misfuelling.

## AdBlue drains across Somerset, Queen Camel included

Being a village, Queen Camel has the same vans as surrounding places — Eyewell, Wales — all the way across BA postcodes and the wider area beyond.

Quickest of all: quote a BA22 7 postcode for the van.

No need to move your car.

A drive, a lay-by on the way to Ridge Copse, a side street near Queen Camel Memorial Hall: our technicians drain the vehicle where it sits.

Ring and ask instead of guessing if you're close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, like the back of St Mary Magdalene.

## In short, for Queen Camel motorists

Tip nothing till you've read the cap.

AdBlue in your diesel tank after all? Leave it switched off and phone 0333 366 0103; Petrol in Diesel empties it where it stands, throughout Somerset.
