# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Ridge? Don't Start It

Motor off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has got into your diesel tank.

Water with urea mixed in it: that's AdBlue.

Being water-based, it will not ignite and never combines with diesel; trouble only comes when the pump begins pulling it.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is around Ridge, is generally all AdBlue in a diesel tank takes — if it is caught before the motor has run.

Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank in Ridge

Do these:

- Pocket the keys, and that stops anyone turning the power on.

- Put your hazards on if you are at all close to moving traffic.

- The empty bottle or the receipt tells us the fluid and the amount, and so do not throw it away.

- Ring right where you are. Quote a LA1 3 postcode or the closest street name, and no one has to hunt for you.

Don't:

- Shifting your vehicle just a short way is no reason to start your motor.

- Turning your key to ignition by itself starts the pump running on plenty of diesels. Avoid it.

- No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue will not mix, and so it is pointless.

- Even a short distance down Keswick Walk is too far to drive it.

- Draining the tank on your own by the road isn't worth trying.

Rolling your car away from the pumps is a job for attendants to help with, whichever Ridge forecourt you are on, the Shell or any other.

Stopped on your own drive? Then it stays just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Not the engine but your exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into your exhaust gas to fresh it.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is designed to handle it.

Poured in with the diesel, it keeps separate rather than blending — quite different from fuel.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and pools below it — the same place the pickup sucks from.

A car topped up on a driveway in Moorlands overnight and left unstarted counts as the straightforward case. Nothing has sucked the AdBlue up so far — though once your motor runs, that's what goes first, directly from the bottom of the tank.

It causes two kinds of harm from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it strands urea that crystallises in filter elements and narrow channels; meanwhile, because it eats at some metals, each part it reaches suffers for as long as it stays inside.

A vehicle left standing in Ridge with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank is not.

The water in it does harm of its own: the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Put petrol in a diesel at the Esso and you have an issue of thin fuel.

Damage only comes from driving on it. Blended into the diesel and sitting inside your tank, it does nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different matter: not thin fuel, but no fuel at all.

Since it doesn't burn, running it through isn't an option.

Nor can it be watered down, since it splits back out — and the following fill won't rinse away crystals or corrosion. So the flush matters for more here, and trying your engine "to see", in the centre of Ridge or out in Skerton, costs more than almost any other error.

As with petrol, there's good news.

If the engine has not run, the AdBlue is still in your tank, and your tank is the easiest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across Lancashire the car is sitting.

## Ridge: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Many vehicles place the AdBlue cap beside the diesel one, occasionally behind a single flap, and in dim light the two may appear identical. No one means it.

Usually it's never the filling station: a driver buys a bottle heading home and pours it in outside the house.

It tends to take place in a couple of familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up happens in a hurry outside Castle View Primary Academy.

A driver pours the container in at home, just off Buttermere Road, as the day ends.

Else, after dark outside Freeholders Arms, the car is topped up by a driver using that flap the first time.

Rented motors, brand-new cars, company motors, or the second car in a home with one of each: the least familiar vehicles see it most.

Wherever you're around Ridge or the rest of Lancashire, it is the same slip and the same first answer: leave it off.

## Started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank around Ridge?

The AdBlue has left the tank, then.

It has been drawn through the fuel filter and the lines, and if your engine ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors.

Rough running, smoke from the exhaust, lost power, dashboard lights or stalling: any might show up, perhaps part way across Ridge or coming back from Central Lancaster playing fields.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart the car to check.

More of it is pulled through with each start.

On the Lune Valley Interchange, under a mile from Ridge, the next junction is where to exit, and anywhere safe is where to park — not carrying on.

Each mile carries the AdBlue deeper in. That's why a hop across Ridge to park near Kaizen Academy and a drive of under a mile for Lancaster are such different jobs.

Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

There is more to rinse out once the motor has run, and our technicians do all of it where your car has stopped.

Long-term damage is very rare if it is noticed quickly.

## Clearing AdBlue in a diesel in Ridge: what it takes

A road beside Lancaster Spiritualist Church, a drive, a layby or a forecourt: wherever your car has come to rest in Ridge, we come to it.

The job rests on three replies, which we ask for before all else — which fluid went in, the quantity, and whether the motor has turned over.

Next, draining that tank on the spot takes out the contaminated diesel along with the AdBlue together.

The fuel system is flushed thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, because what it leaves behind doesn't rinse out on its own.

Fresh diesel goes in after your filter is cleaned — or swapped, if it needs to be — and after that the car is tested.

If the engine has not run, most jobs take about half an hour once our engineers are there.

Quiet enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a busy forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

Lastly, your system is bled with fresh diesel.

Whether it's a parking bay outside Lancaster or a drive in Ridge, that is where we fire it up and you head off.

It's tested on fresh diesel to be sure it runs properly before we head off.

No workshop is needed at any stage, with the entire job done on the spot.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers ask for.

## About Ridge and where it is

Ridge is a suburban area located on the coast of Lancashire, near the city of Lancaster. Ridge sits at an elevation of 36 metres, with its terraced housing stock reflecting the area's historical development. Ridge is situated close to nearby places such as Newton, Bulk, and Freehold, and is approximately 208 miles from London.

## Ridge and Lancashire: AdBlue drains across the area

Our teams that answer AdBlue jobs in Ridge also cover the spots round it, Newton, Bulk and Freehold among them, and most of Lancashire beyond, across the LA postcode area.

If you're near a border, or somewhere hard to explain, ring and ask instead of assuming.

Ridge is a residential suburb, and a call-out drain suits it: whether the car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, we drain it where it stands, and so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Ridge

There is no fair single price, since the jobs are not the same.

Three things shift the price: whether the engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the vehicle is. That last one rests on whether a technician can get to it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight space behind Church of Saint Luke.

For that in mind, each call from Ridge opens with the identical trio — what went in, how much, whether the engine ran — before a figure.

Those replies turn a range into a straight price.

The price is given during the call, before anyone leaves; settling up comes on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

As the van is on the way, check your policy: plenty cover misfuelling.

## Ridge: still next to the car?

Then, the most helpful thing to do with your car is to not touch it.

Keys out, engine off, ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103 and tell us it is AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it's run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, around Ridge or anywhere in Lancashire.
