# Rise Park: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

Stop here a minute if your diesel tank already has AdBlue in it: ignition off, engine off, then call 0333 366 0103.

Usually, when your engine has not turned, it's drained and thoroughly purged where the vehicle is around Rise Park.

Reading before the event? In that case the rest covers how it comes about and how to stop it ever happening.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel vehicle need its own filler?

No single liquid but two: that is how plenty of modern diesels near Rise Park and Bestwood Village run, with diesel feeding your engine.

Kept in a tank of its own, AdBlue is sprayed into the exhaust stream to clean it.

Each tank comes with one filler of its own.

Under one flap, side by side: that is the arrangement on a lot of cars. On others, AdBlue's filler sits under the bonnet or in your boot instead.

The diesel side is fuelled at the pump all the time.

Rarely topped up, AdBlue normally goes in from a bottle, tipped by someone who has to stop and think what cap it needs.

The slip lives in that gap.

## Rise Park: how AdBlue in your diesel tank takes place

Carelessness seldom explains it. What does is three things coming up together.

Haste comes from the warning. The car warns you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank puts the vehicle into limp mode — so the top-up gets done quickly, before work on a drive off Rise Park Road, or heading home in the car park at Tuck and Tanner.

Next, your hand reaches for the cap it knew on the old motor — since a rental car, a new car or a company car places the fillers somewhere your last one did not.

Nothing halts the tip once it has started, since a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

Top Valley or the middle of Rise Park: it takes the same few seconds either way.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

Look at these before pouring, on a forecourt in Rise Park or a driveway out in Highbury Vale. Seconds, no more.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is often blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally is not. Read it rather than going by position.

- The size. On many vehicles the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- A label inside the fuel flap often says which fuel goes where, on many cars. Look for it.

- The handbook. If your filler is not by your diesel cap, it is in the boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- Check with the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — if you pick up a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park outside Bulwell.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach your diesel tank

On the day the light appears — anywhere it is around Nottinghamshire — a routine to use.

- Pull in somewhere level, motor off, with time to spare — never rushing on the side of Blantyre Avenue.

- Find the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and speak the name "AdBlue" out loud while unscrewing it. It sounds silly. It does the trick.

- The two under one flap? So confirm the cap on your diesel side stays shut before raising the bottle.

- Stop when the tank fills or the bottle runs dry; until then, pour slowly through its built-in spout.

- Before you start your car, shut the cap and look a second time that the diesel cap was never opened off.

Stop there if you find, at stage two or three, that you have already poured into your diesel side.

Don't go on to stage five.

## Put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Rise Park already?

What follows is a short order of things, starting with not starting your motor.

On many diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, and so do not switch it on.

AdBlue does not mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is drawn from — so don't top up with diesel to dilute it.

The attendants at Tesco, Morrisons or another forecourt will normally help pushing your car clear when asked.

Leave it where it is if you are on your own driveway around Rise Park.

If your motor has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

Come off the M1 — under 3 miles out of Rise Park — at the first junction.

Mileage matters — a short hop across Rise Park makes a smaller job than heading under 5 miles towards Nottingham — so tell us roughly how far it went.

## Rise Park: what takes place when we get there

Anywhere the vehicle has stopped, be it by Rise Park Primary and Nursery School, beside Rise Park Church or at home, our van travels to it.

Those answers decide the work and our price, so our engineers ask what got in, roughly how much, and if it has run.

That quote comes on the call, ahead of any van leaving.

Then the tank is cleared and the system cleaned thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it doesn't wash out on its own — which is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol.

The fuel filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

We do not go until it has been started and is running properly.

Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour once we arrive, as long as your engine has not run — and the pumps our engineers use are fine on a busy forecourt yet quiet after dark beside a house.

No money in advance; you settle up that day. Afterwards, a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer go to you for the insurer.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## AdBlue drains around Rise Park, and Nottinghamshire beyond

As a residential suburb, Rise Park shares its vans nearby places — Bulwell Forest, Bestwood — right through NG postcodes and the wider area beyond.

Give a postcode beginning NG5 5, and our van gets there fastest.

No need to move your car.

The drain takes place right there, whether a driveway, a street by Community Rooms at Masson Court, or a layby towards Moorbridge Pond Nature Reserve.

If you're close to a border, or somewhere hard to explain like the back of St Philip's Church, ring and ask rather than assuming.

## For Rise Park motorists, the short version

Before you pour, read the cap.
