# Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Roche

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then leave the engine off — and your ignition as well.

Urea mixed in water is all AdBlue is.

It does not burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does begins when the system pulls it in.

If the motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally emptied and thoroughly flushed where the vehicle stands in Roche.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## Roche, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once

Things to do:

- Keys out — then no one can switch anything on.

- Put the hazards on if you're anywhere near moving traffic.

- So you can give us which fluid it was and about what quantity, keep your receipt or the empty bottle.

- The van finds you quickest with a postcode starting PL26 8, or simply the name of a street nearby, and so call from the car.

Never do these:

- Do not start the engine, even for a moment to shift the car.

- Do not switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- Adding extra diesel does not work: AdBlue settles out instead of thinning.

- Leave the vehicle where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short distance up Edgcumbe Road.

- By the road, do not try emptying it yourself.

Moving your vehicle away from the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Roche forecourt you're on, the Texaco or any other.

If you're on your own drive, leave it precisely where it sits.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it.

Neither side fits the other: urea doesn't belong in an injection pump, and a pump can't take urea.

Inside a diesel tank it acts really differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

It is heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and collects at the bottom of your tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from.

A motor topped up on a driveway in Victoria yesterday evening and not started since counts as the straightforward case. No pump has sucked the AdBlue up yet — though once your engine turns, that is what is pulled first, straight from the bottom of that tank.

From there it does two kinds of damage.

It attacks certain metals found in fuel systems, attacking whatever it touches until it is removed from the system. And when the water goes, the urea forms crystals that block filters and lodge in tiny channels.

Where the AdBlue has reached the lines, waiting overnight in Roche makes it worse. Inside that tank alone, waiting does nothing.

Water protects nothing. The high-pressure pump and each injector depend on diesel running through them, so the water content harms them by itself.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is frequently worse

Petrol put into a diesel on Shell's forecourt leaves the fuel watery — that's the whole problem.

It mixes with the diesel, and while it is inside the tank it does no damage; the damage comes from running the motor on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is a fault of the wrong substance altogether.

It can't just be run through, since it does not burn.

It doesn't stay mixed, so it cannot be thinned. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the engine "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether your car is in Coldvreath or the middle of Roche.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Clearing a tank is the easiest part on any fuel system, and with no start-up, the AdBlue remains in it — anywhere in Cornwall the car has stopped.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Roche: how it ends up there

It is not deliberate. Plenty of cars have the AdBlue cap beside the diesel inlet, now and then behind one flap, and mixing them up is easy in poor light.

Usually it's never the filling station: a driver buys a bottle heading home and tips it in outside the house.

Mostly, it occurs in one of a few familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up happens in a hurry outside Roche Community Primary School.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Victoria Road.

Or a driver new to that flap tops up the car in dim light, stopped in the car park by The Rock Inn.

Hired vehicles, new vehicles, company cars, or the spare vehicle in a family with one of each: the least familiar cars see it most.

Wherever you are around Roche or the rest of Cornwall, it is the same slip and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Roche: started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left your tank.

Your filter and pipework have had it pulled through, and any running time carries it on to the injection pump and each injector.

Perhaps returning from Roche Sports & Social Complex, or midway across Roche, your motor may run rough, smoke, lose pace, flash your dash or stall.

No restarting to check: pull over once it is safe, then turn everything off.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Roche lies over 50 miles from the M5; if you were on it, leave by the next junction and stop safely rather than carrying on.

Distance matters: every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into the system, and so heading towards Truro, under 15 miles away, makes a much bigger job than crossing Roche to the car park by Roche Victory Hall.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

Our technicians do all of the cleaning where the car has stopped, and once the engine has been started there is more of it.

Long-term damage is very uncommon when it's spotted quickly.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Roche?

Wherever it has come to rest around Roche — a filling station, a layby, a drive, a street by Roche Methodist Church — the van travels to the car.

Three answers shape the work, so before anything else we ask what got in, roughly the amount, plus whether the engine has turned over.

Right there, the tank is then drained, and both the contaminated diesel and the urea come out as one.

Your system is cleaned thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind does not rinse out on its own.

After that, the fuel filter: cleaned, or replaced when it has to be. Then fresh diesel, and then a test of your car.

If the engine hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once our engineers arrive.

The equipment is explosion-proof, so a live forecourt is no fault, and it is hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

The last step is to prime the system on clean diesel.

Firing it up comes next, and then you set off from where the vehicle is parked, at the nearest station or on a driveway around Roche.

Our engineers confirm it runs smoothly on new diesel before we go.

The whole job is done where your car is, so it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come afterwards.

## About Roche itself

Roche is a village in Cornwall, situated inland at an elevation of 183 metres, approximately 13.8 miles from Truro. Roche is surrounded by nearby places such as Trebilcock, Trezaise, and Carbis, and is characterized by its semi-detached housing. Roche has a population of around 2311 residents, and is located about 218.4 miles west of London.

## AdBlue drains across Cornwall, Roche included

The teams that answer AdBlue calls around Roche also cover the spots round it, Trebilcock, Trezaise and Carbis among them, and most of Cornwall beyond, across the PL postcode area.

Close to a boundary, or anywhere awkward to pin down? Asking is better than assuming, and so ring.

A mobile service suits Roche, a rural village: there's no need to bring your vehicle to us, because we drain it there, on a drive, a side street, a car park or a filling station.

## Roche: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Every job is different, and so not one single quote would be fair.

Three things move the price: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where your car is. That last one rests on whether a van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is easier than a tight gap behind St Gomonda of the Rock.

That is why each call from Roche starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and whether it's run.

Given them, the range narrows to a single fixed number.

Priced by phone before the van sets out, it is paid for that day — card or phone, no deposit.

As the van is travelling, check your policy: plenty cover misfuelling.

## Still beside your car around Roche?

Not touching your car is, right now, the best thing open to you.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest, across Roche or anywhere within Cornwall, once you call 0333 366 0103 saying it was AdBlue, roughly what quantity, and if it ran.
