# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Rosemount: Why It Happens and How to Stop It

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your engine and the ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103.

Caught before your motor runs, it's usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Rosemount.

The rest of this page covers why it happens and how to ensure it does not — handy if you're reading ahead of time.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor: two tanks, two fillers

Diesel goes to the motor — but plenty of current diesels driven around Rosemount and Blackley hold a second liquid too.

Your exhaust, not the motor, is where AdBlue ends up: sprayed into the fumes to fresh it, from a separate tank.

Every tank has one filler of its own.

Some cars keep the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; plenty of others place both side by side behind one flap.

Diesel gets filled on each forecourt call-out, again and again.

The AdBlue side is fuelled far less frequently, usually from a bottle, and normally by someone who has to stop and think where it goes.

That gap is where the mistake lives.

## Rosemount: how AdBlue in your diesel tank happens

Three things tend to line up, and carelessness is rarely one of them.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low your car tells you, and if it runs out altogether, your vehicle goes into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off Huddersfield Road before work, or in the car park outside The Traveller's Rest on the way home.

Unfamiliar cars are second, as well. Rentals, new cars and company vehicles place their fillers differently, and habit goes for the cap it used on the old one.

Third, the bottle fits: diesel filler or AdBlue one, it goes in just as easily, and once the tip starts, nothing halts it.

Whether it occurs in Heathfield or the middle of Rosemount, it's the same few seconds.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Be it a Rosemount forecourt or a drive out in Ainley Top, spend a few seconds on these before any is poured in.

- Check the cap rather than going by where it sits: AdBlue caps are frequently blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones usually are not.

- Many cars give AdBlue the smaller neck of the two.

- The flap. Look inside your fuel flap for a label. Many cars say there which fuel goes where.

- In your boot or under the bonnet: that's where your filler sits if it's not by your diesel cap, and the handbook tells you which.

- The person who drove the vehicle last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park at Brighouse, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching the diesel tank

When the light comes on, wherever in West Yorkshire, use this routine.

- Turn off once parked — level ground, engine stopped, and never in a rush beside Broad Lea on the verge.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it works.

- If both sit under one flap, check your diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — then leave the vehicle on.

- Slowly is best, through the bottle's own spout, till it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Only then, start the vehicle: close the cap, check a second time, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

Spot at stage two or three that it's already gone into the diesel side? Then stop just there.

Do not go on to step five.

## Rosemount: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Then the order of things is short. Don't start the engine.

On plenty of diesels your ignition alone runs the fuel pump, so do not switch the vehicle on.

Topping up with diesel will not dilute it: instead, AdBlue sinks to the bottom of the tank, right where fuel is taken from.

On a forecourt — Crossleys Garage, Morrisons or another — the attendants will normally help roll your car clear, if you ask.

Leave it where it is if you're on your own driveway in Rosemount.

If the motor has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

Leave the M62 — under a mile out of Rosemount — at the first junction.

About how far did it go? Hopping across Rosemount is smaller a job than a run of under 10 miles to Bradford, and so tell us.

## Our arrival in Rosemount, and what occurs next

The van reaches your car wherever it has come to rest — your own drive, near Brook's Mill, or by Elland Church of England (Voluntary Aided) Junior, Infant and Nursery School.

We ask what went in, about how much, and whether it has run, because the answers decide the work and our quote.

On the call itself, you hear the price — ahead of anything else.

After that: a drain, then a full flush of the entire system.

Not like petrol, AdBlue leaves crystals and attacks certain fuel-system metals, and neither washes away by itself. Hence it matters more.

Testing comes at the end: before that, fresh diesel goes in, and the fuel filter is cleaned or replaced if necessary.

We do not go until it has been started and is running correctly.

Unrun vehicles mostly need a half-hour visit from arrival. The kit is fine on a busy filling station, and hushed enough for a driveway after dark.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

Misfuelling cover is part of plenty of insurance policies — so use the wait to check yours.

## Rosemount and West Yorkshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Over HX postcodes, the teams covering Rosemount — a residential suburb — work the surrounding places too, Elland Upper Edge and Elland among them.

The van reaches you fastest with a postcode starting HX5 9.

No need to shift the vehicle.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street close to Southgate Methodist Church, a lay-by on the way to Elland Bypass Cutting SSSI, a driveway.

If you're close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to explain like the back of Hawkyard Mink Farm, ring and ask instead of assuming.

## Rosemount drivers: the short version
