# Rousky: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Avoid It?

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your engine and the ignition off then phone 0333 366 0103.

Around Rousky, finding it before the engine runs normally leaves a drain and a full flush on the spot.

Not happened yet? Below, the page covers the reasons it occurs and the ways to prevent it altogether.

## AdBlue in a diesel vehicle, and its separate tank

Many modern diesels around Landahaussy, like those in Rousky, carry on two liquids; the motor takes just the diesel.

Stored in a tank of its own, AdBlue is sprayed into your exhaust stream and cleans it.

There's a filler for each tank.

Plenty of cars have a single flap for both, while some put the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet.

At the petrol pump, the diesel side gets filled all the time.

The AdBlue side is filled far less regularly, usually from a bottle, and usually by somebody who has to stop and think where it goes.

The mistake grows in that gap between the two.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank occurs in Rousky

Carelessness rarely causes it. What does is three things coming up at once.

On a drive off Rock Street before work, or in the car park at the pub in the village on the way home: that is where the hurried top-up happens. Why the rush? As AdBlue runs low the vehicle warns you, and once it is empty, limp mode follows.

The old car's cap is where your hand goes — yet a rental car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers elsewhere. That's the second thing: a strange vehicle.

A spout-topped bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. And so the tip, after started, keeps on.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Rousky or out in Gortin.

## The AdBlue filler and your diesel filler: telling them apart

Before you tip anything, whether on a drive in Cranagh or a forecourt in Rousky, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is often blue, or marked "AdBlue". The diesel cap normally isn't. Read it rather than going by where it sits.

- Many vehicles fit AdBlue the smaller neck of the two.

- The flap. Look inside your fuel flap for a label. Many motors say there which fuel goes where.

- The handbook. If the filler isn't by your diesel cap, it's in your boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- The person who drove it last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park at the nearest station, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in your diesel tank

On the day the light appears — wherever it is in County Tyrone — a simple routine to follow.

- Stop somewhere level, motor off, with time in hand — never rushing on the side of Crom Street.

- Silly as it sounds, speaking "AdBlue" aloud while you unscrew the cap does the trick — after you've located your filler and read it.

- Both behind a single flap? So make sure the cap on your diesel filler stays shut ahead of lifting the bottle.

- Pour slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it's full or when the bottle is empty.

- Before starting the car, shut the cap and look again that your diesel cap was never came off.

If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into the diesel side, stop there.

Do not go on to step five.

## Put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Rousky already?

Then the order of things is short. Do not start your motor.

On many diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, so don't switch the vehicle on.

Topping up with diesel won't thin it: rather than mixing, AdBlue drops to the base of that tank, just where the fuel is taken from.

At a forecourt — the nearest petrol station, another forecourt nearby or another — the staff will usually help roll the vehicle clear, if you ask.

Your own driveway in Rousky is the place it stays.

Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, if your engine has already run.

On the M77, over 50 miles from Rousky, that means the next junction.

A short hop across Rousky is a smaller job than a run towards Derry, under 25 miles away, so tell us about how far it went.

## When we get there around Rousky, what occurs?

By the local primary school, near the centre or on your own driveway: wherever your car has stopped, we come to it.

Those replies settle this work and our quote, and so our engineers ask what got in, about how much, and if it has run.

On the phone call itself, you are told the price — ahead of anything else.

Emptying the tank comes next, then a thorough flush of the system.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own — which is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol.

Filter flushed or, where needed, swapped; clean diesel in; then a check of your car.

Before we go, our engineers start the engine and check that it is running properly.

Most jobs are finished in roughly half an hour after our technicians get there, as long as the motor has not run — and the pumps we use are safe on a live forecourt yet quiet after dark beside a house.

Nothing in advance; you settle up on the day. Afterwards, the VAT invoice and the report from the engineer go to you for your insurer.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours whilst we are on the way.

## Rousky and County Tyrone: AdBlue drains across the area

As a small village, Rousky shares its vans surrounding places — Greencastle, Mountfield — all the way across BT postcodes and the surrounding area beyond.

A postcode starting BT79 7 gets our van to you fastest.

No need to shift the vehicle.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street near a street just off the centre, a lay-by on the way to the green space at the edge of the village, a drive.

Awkward to explain, like the back of the far end of the built-up part? Close to a county line? Checking beats assuming, and so phone.

## Rousky drivers: the short version

Before you tip, read the cap.

Petrol in Diesel empties it where it stands, anywhere across County Tyrone, if AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank anyway — so leave it off and phone 0333 366 0103.
