# Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Sibsey

Motor off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has got into your diesel tank.

Water with urea mixed in it: that is AdBlue.

Unlike fuel, it neither ignites nor mixes, and no harm starts until the engine pulls it round.

If the motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually emptied and thoroughly rinsed where the vehicle stands around Sibsey.

Before anything, call us on 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Sibsey: the first few minutes

Do these:

- Take your keys out, so no one switches the ignition on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.

- Hold on to your receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what got in and about how much.

- Give us a postcode starting PE22 0, or whichever street lies closest, and our van finds you directly — so call wherever you are.

Things not to do:

- Shifting your vehicle even a short way is no reason to fire up your motor.

- Many diesels run their pump the moment the ignition comes on, and so leave the vehicle off.

- AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding more diesel won't weaken it.

- Don't drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short stretch up Frithville Road.

- Emptying the tank on your own beside the road is not worth trying.

At a forecourt around Sibsey, whether it's the Gulf or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the vehicle away from the pump.

On the drive, the car stays exactly where it was left.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not your motor.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it's fed into your exhaust, and there it cleans the gas.

Nothing inside an injection pump is designed for this fluid — and no part of it was meant to go that way.

It does not combine. After it is poured into a tank of diesel, AdBlue behaves not at all like fuel.

It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and collects at the bottom of that tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from.

A motor filled on a driveway in Hilldyke overnight and not started since is the simple case. Nothing has sucked the AdBlue up yet — but when your motor runs, that is what goes first, straight from the bottom of your tank.

From there it causes two kinds of damage.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it leaves urea that crystallises in filters and tiny passages; meanwhile, since it attacks certain metals, each part it reaches suffers for as long as it stays inside.

If the AdBlue is in the lines, waiting overnight in Sibsey makes it worse. In that tank alone, waiting does nothing.

The water in it does harm of its own: the high-pressure pump and the injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's frequently worse than petrol

A fault of thin fuel is what you get from filling a diesel with petrol at the Kings Garage.

Mixed through your diesel and left still, it is no threat at that stage; using your motor is the damage.

AdBlue in a diesel is another matter: not thin fuel, but no fuel at all.

Not burning, it cannot simply be run through.

Whether the vehicle is in Frithville or the centre of Sibsey, turning it over "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other slip, and the flush counts more. The reasons: it will not stay blended, so diluting it fails; and crystals and corrosion outlast the following fill.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Not run? Then the AdBlue waits just in the tank, the simplest bit of the whole system to empty, anywhere your car has stopped around Lincolnshire.

## Sibsey: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

It is not on purpose. Many vehicles keep the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel inlet, now and then under one flap, and muddling them up is easy in poor light.

Usually it's not the forecourt: a driver buys a container driving home and pours it in at home.

A few familiar ways cover the majority of them.

The refill is rushed outside The Sibsey Free Primary School, after your dash lit up with a warning while the kids were taken in.

A driver pours the bottle in outside their house, right off Old Main Road, as the day ends.

Or someone new to that flap refills the vehicle after dark, stopped in the car park by The White Hart.

Hired cars, new vehicles, company cars, or the second vehicle in a family with one of each: the least familiar vehicles get it most.

Wherever in Lincolnshire, Sibsey as well, the slip does not change, and neither does the first step: keep it off.

## Already started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Sibsey?

The AdBlue has left that tank, then.

Through the filter, along the lines, and — with any running — into the high-pressure pump and every injector: that's how far it has gone.

Expect rough running, smoke, falling power, warnings on the dash, or a stall — returning from Sibsey Community Park, perhaps, or part way across Sibsey.

Once you safely can, stop then switch everything off — with no turning it on again to see.

Each start pulls more of it through.

Exit the A1(M), under 50 miles from Sibsey, at the next junction and park somewhere safe, not carrying on.

Mileage matters: each mile carries the AdBlue further into your system, and so heading for Lincoln, under 50 miles away, makes a far bigger job than hopping across Sibsey to the car park by St. Margarets.

Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

Our technicians do all of the flushing where your car has stopped, and once the motor has been started there is more of it.

Very rarely does it leave lasting damage when it is noticed soon.

## Emptying AdBlue in a diesel around Sibsey: what it takes

The vehicle stays put, whether that's a road beside Sibsey Village Hall, a driveway, a lay-by or a forecourt in Sibsey, and our van comes to it.

What went in, roughly how much, plus if your motor has been run: our engineers ask before all else, because those decide the work.

Then that tank is drained where the car stands, and so the contaminated fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing counts: the fuel system is flushed right through because what remains will not wash away unaided.

Next, your filter: cleaned, or replaced if it must be. After that fresh diesel, and then a check of the vehicle.

If the motor has not run, most jobs take about half an hour once our technicians are there.

The pumps are explosion-proof, fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Fresh diesel goes in to prime your system, and that's the last step.

You head off as soon as our technicians have started the car, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive around Sibsey or in a bay outside Boston.

Our technicians make sure it runs properly on new diesel before leaving.

We do it all wherever the vehicle has ended up, and it never has to go to a garage.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers ask for.

## AdBlue drains across Sibsey and Lincolnshire

Our teams that answer AdBlue jobs in Sibsey also cover the locations about it, Sibsey Fen Side, High Ferry and Northlands among them, and most of Lincolnshire beyond, across the PE postcode area.

Guessing won't help by a county line or somewhere tricky to describe; phone and ask.

A van that comes to you fits Sibsey, a rural village: you have no need to bring your vehicle to us, since our engineers empty it there, in a driveway, a side street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Sibsey

Every job differs, so not one single quote is fair.

What shifts the price is, firstly, whether your engine has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue was put in; and finally where your car is and whether a technician can get to it safely, which is simpler on an open drive than in a tight gap behind Sibsey Trader Mill.

With that reason, each call from Sibsey opens with the same trio — what was put in, what quantity, whether the engine ran — ahead of any figure.

Once those are answered, a range becomes one firm number.

Before anyone heads out, you hear our quote by phone. And you pay on the day, card or over the phone, with nothing in advance.

Look at your policy whilst we are on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.

## Sibsey: still alongside the car?

Then, the most helpful thing to do with your car is to not touch it.

Engine off, keys out, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, the amount, and whether it ran are all our technicians need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder across Lincolnshire, Sibsey too.
