# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Sirhowy? Don't Start It

Motor off, ignition off: that's how you begin if AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank.

Urea dissolved in water is what AdBlue is.

Not like fuel, it neither ignites nor mixes, and nothing starts until the engine pulls it through.

If your engine hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually drained and thoroughly cleaned where the car sits around Sirhowy.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## Sirhowy, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do straight away

Things to do:

- Keys out — that way no one can power anything on.

- Put your hazards on if you're anywhere close to moving traffic.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the product and the quantity, so don't bin it out.

- Ring us from where you are. A postcode starting NP22 4, or the name of the closest street, gets the van to you without a search.

Never:

- Do not start your engine, even for a moment to shift the vehicle.

- Switching the key to ignition by itself starts the pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.

- No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue will not blend, and so it is pointless.

- Do not drive the car anywhere, not even a short stretch down Sirhowy Court.

- Don't try to drain the vehicle yourself by the kerbside.

Get the attendants to help you roll the car away from the island if you're on a forecourt around Sirhowy, whether it's the Gulf or elsewhere.

Stopped on your own driveway? Then it stays just as it is.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

Not your engine but the exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

Its own reservoir holds it, and from there it's fed into your exhaust, where it cleans the gas.

Nothing in it is meant to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is designed to handle it.

It doesn't combine. Once it's poured into the tank, AdBlue behaves nothing like fuel.

The pickup sucks fuel from the deepest part of your tank, and that's precisely where AdBlue settles: being heavier than diesel, it sinks.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Ashvale last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the easy case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

Two kinds of harm come from there.

What remains once the water evaporates is urea, which turns into crystals: they lodge in tiny channels and clog filters. On top of that, it eats at certain metals in the fuel system, and keeps going until it is flushed out.

A motor left standing around Sirhowy with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank isn't.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector need diesel running through them, and so the water part damages them in its own right.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's commonly worse than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the Texaco and you have an issue of thin fuel.

It mixes with the diesel, and whilst it's inside the tank it does no damage; the damage comes from running the engine on it.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally wrong substance.

It cannot just be run through, since it doesn't burn.

Nor can it be thinned, since it separates again — and the next tankful will not clear away deposits or corrosion. So the flush matters more with AdBlue, and turning the key "to see", in the heart of Sirhowy or out in Tredegar, costs more than almost any other mistake.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Never run? Then the AdBlue sits just in the tank, the easiest section of the whole system to clear, wherever the car has stopped around Blaenau Gwent.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Sirhowy: how it ends up there

In dim light, two caps side by side — the AdBlue cap and the diesel one, now and then under one flap — may appear the same. No one intends it; many designs invite it.

It usually happens outside the house, from a container grabbed en route home, not at the forecourt.

Usually, it takes place in one of a few familiar ways.

The refill is rushed outside the local primary school, because your dash lit up with a warning as the kids were dropped in.

After work, a bottle goes in on a drive near Chartist Way.

Else, in dim light outside The Railway Tavern, your vehicle gets refilled by a driver opening that flap for the first time.

Hired cars, brand-new motors, fleet vehicles, or the second car in a family with one of each: the least known vehicles get it the most.

An identical slip, same first step — keep it switched off — wherever you happen to be in Sirhowy or the rest of Blaenau Gwent.

## Already started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank in Sirhowy?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank.

It has been drawn through your filter and the lines, and if the engine ran for any time, it has reached the high-pressure fuel pump and the fuel injectors.

Watch for lumpy running, exhaust smoke, falling power, lights on the dash, or a cut-out — coming back from Sirhowy Hill Woodlands Nature Reserve, perhaps, or midway across Sirhowy.

When safe, pull over then turn everything off — without turning it on again to test.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Sirhowy sits under 25 miles from the M4; if you were on it, leave by the first junction and pull up safely rather than carrying on.

Distance matters: every mile pushes the AdBlue further into your system, so driving towards Newport, under 25 miles away, makes a far bigger job than crossing Sirhowy to the car park by Aneurin Bevan Memorial Stones.

About how far it had come is worth telling us.

We do all of the cleaning where the car has come to a stop, and once your engine has run there is more of it.

If it is spotted early, lasting damage is very rare.

## Sirhowy: how AdBlue is drained from a diesel

Our engineers come to your car, wherever it has stopped around Sirhowy: a side street close to Central Baptist Church, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Which fluid got in, about how much, and if the engine has turned over: we check before all else, because those decide the job.

The polluted diesel and the urea leave together after that tank is drained, on the spot.

A full flush matters far more after AdBlue than with petrol, since what remains will not clear away on its own.

The filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

About half an hour on site is usual for most jobs when your motor has not run.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Bleeding your system with clean diesel comes at the end.

You set off as soon as our engineers have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a driveway around Sirhowy or in a space by Ebbw Vale Town.

Before we go, our technicians check it is running smoothly with fresh diesel in.

The entire job is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to go to a workshop.

Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and you get both at the end.

## Sirhowy and Blaenau Gwent: AdBlue drains across the area

Scwrfa, Dukestown and Dukes Meadow are among the places around Sirhowy that the same vans serve, together with much of Blaenau Gwent further out, throughout the NP postcode area.

Near a border, or anywhere tricky to pin down? Asking beats guessing, so phone.

Sirhowy is a residential suburb, and a mobile drain suits it: whether the car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our technicians drain it where it sits, and so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Sirhowy: the cost of fixing it

Each job is different, so not one fixed quote is fair.

Three things shift the price: whether the motor has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the vehicle is. That last one comes down to whether our van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is easier than a tight spot behind The Little Theatre.

What got in, what quantity, plus whether it ran: every Sirhowy call opens with precisely those, ahead of any quote, never afterwards.

Those answers shrink the range right down to one number.

You hear that quote by phone, before anybody sets off, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

As our engineer is travelling, check your insurance: many cover misfuelling.

## Beside your car in Sirhowy, still?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Petrol in Diesel handles the rest, across Sirhowy or anywhere within Blaenau Gwent, once you ring 0333 366 0103 to say it's AdBlue, about how big an amount, and whether the engine ran.
