# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Southgate: Why It Happens

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave the engine and your ignition off and phone 0333 366 0103.

Caught before the engine runs, it is usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Southgate.

If you're reading before it has happened, the rest of this page is about why it takes place and how to make sure it does not.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel car

Diesel goes to your motor — but many modern diesels driven about Southgate and Penmaen hold a second fluid as well.

Kept in a tank of its own, AdBlue is fed into your exhaust stream and cleans it.

Separate tanks, different fillers.

Some motors keep the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; a lot more place both together behind one flap.

Diesel goes in at every forecourt visit, again and again.

Seldom filled, AdBlue usually comes from a bottle, poured by a driver who has to stop and think which filler to use.

That gap is where the mistake lives.

## Southgate: how AdBlue in the diesel tank happens

Rarely is it carelessness: usually three things coincide.

To start with, the warning. Low AdBlue triggers a message from the car, and running dry means limp mode — hence a rushed top-up, maybe before work off Bendrick Drive, or at The Southgate on the way home after work.

Then the vehicle is unfamiliar. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and your hand reaches for the cap it would have used on the old one.

And the bottle fits. A bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one, so nothing stops the tip once it has started.

Parkmill or the middle of Southgate: it is the same few seconds in both.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

A couple of seconds is all the checks take — so check them before you tip anything, on a drive in Ilston or a forecourt around Southgate.

- Check the cap instead of going by where it sits: AdBlue caps are regularly blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones usually aren't.

- Look at the size: the smaller neck is, on plenty of cars, the AdBlue one.

- Open the flap and check for a label — many motors mark what belongs in each filler just there.

- Cannot see it beside your diesel inlet? In that case look beneath the bonnet or in your boot — the owner's manual says where.

- The person who drove the car last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park outside Gowerton, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

A routine for the day the light comes on, wherever across Swansea that is.

- Switch off once parked — level ground, engine stopped, and not in a rush by Southgate Road on the verge.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it works.

- If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — and leave it on.

- Gently does it, through the bottle's own spout, till it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Shut the cap, and check again — making sure the diesel filler remained closed throughout. Only then, start the car.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Leave out step five altogether.

## Southgate: already put AdBlue in your diesel tank?

What follows is a short order of things, starting with not starting the engine.

Do not switch the ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is pulled from — so do not top up with diesel to dilute it.

At a forecourt — the nearest petrol station, North Road Service Station or another — the staff will usually help push the vehicle away, if you ask.

If you are on your own driveway around Southgate, leave it where it sits.

Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, if your engine has already run.

Leave the M4 — under 10 miles out of Southgate — at the first exit.

Mileage matters — a quick hop across Southgate is a smaller job than heading under 10 miles towards Swansea — so say roughly how far it went.

## Our arrival in Southgate, and what occurs next

By the local primary school, close to Pennard Castle or on your own driveway: wherever your car has stopped, our technicians come to it.

We ask what was put in, about how much, and whether it has run, since the answers settle this work and the quote.

You get that price on the phone, before anybody heads out.

Then your tank is cleared and the system flushed thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own — which is why that counts more here than with petrol.

A test comes at the end: before that, clean diesel goes in, and the filter is flushed or changed if necessary.

Then our engineers fire it up and check it runs correctly before we leave.

Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour after our technicians get there, provided your motor hasn't run — and the pumps our engineers use are safe on a busy forecourt yet quiet at night outside a house.

Your insurer will ask for an engineer's report and the VAT invoice, and you get both once the job is done. Payment is on the day, with no deposit.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## AdBlue drains in Southgate and across Swansea

Being a coastal village, Southgate has the same vans as nearby places — Lunnon, Pennard — right across SA postcodes and the surrounding area beyond.

A postcode starting SA3 2 gets our van to you fastest.

The vehicle doesn't need to move.

Draining happens on the spot, whether a drive, a street near Three Cliffs Corner, or a layby towards Pennard Golf Club.

Awkward to explain, like the back of Pobbles Beach? By a border? Asking beats guessing, and so phone.

## For Southgate people, the short version

First, the cap; after that, the pour.

Petrol in Diesel empties it where it stands, anywhere around Swansea, if AdBlue has gone in the diesel tank regardless — so leave the car off then phone 0333 366 0103.
