# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Sterte? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, leave the engine off and keep the ignition off.

Water with urea dissolved in it: that's AdBlue.

It does not burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does begins when the system draws it in.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Sterte, is normally all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before your motor has been run.

Before anything, ring us on 0333 366 0103.

## Your next steps straight away, Sterte: AdBlue in the diesel tank

Do these:

- Remove the keys, which stops anyone turning the electrics on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all near.

- Which fluid, and about what amount? Save the bottle or your receipt, and our engineers will see.

- Our van finds you fastest with a postcode starting BH15 2, or just the name of a street close by, so phone from the car.

Don't:

- Not even for a second, and not to roll the vehicle: your engine stays off.

- Switching your key to ignition by itself starts your pump going on many diesels. Skip it.

- No extra fuel added. The AdBlue will not blend, so it is wasted.

- Even a short distance along Sterte Close is too far to drive the vehicle.

- Beside the road, don't attempt draining it on your own.

Ask the attendants to help you move your vehicle off the island if you're at a forecourt in Sterte, whether it's the BP or somewhere else.

Stopped on your own driveway? Then it remains exactly as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not the engine.

Stored in a dedicated tank, it is squirted into the exhaust stream to treat the fumes.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves very differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and collects underneath it — the same spot the intake draws from.

Simplest of all: one that had AdBlue in Old Town last night and hasn't turned since. The AdBlue waits at the base of that tank, undrawn — though it will be first through once the engine starts, ahead of any diesel at all.

From there it does two kinds of harm.

It attacks certain metals found in fuel systems, attacking any part it reaches until it is cleared from your system. And once the water evaporates, the urea forms crystals that clog filters and settle in tiny passages.

If the AdBlue has reached the lines, waiting till morning in Sterte leaves things worse. Inside your tank alone, time does nothing.

Diesel protects the injection pump and each injector as it passes; water offers none of that, and that is a second form of harm.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's often worse than petrol

A problem of thin fuel is what you end up with after fuelling a diesel with petrol at the Esso.

Mixed through the diesel and sitting unused, it's no threat at that stage; running your engine does the harm.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid itself is plainly the wrong one.

It does not burn, so it cannot just be run through.

It does not stay mixed, so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That's why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting the motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the vehicle is in Oakdale or the middle of Sterte.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

If your engine has not run, the AdBlue is still in your tank, and that tank is the quickest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever in Dorset the vehicle is standing.

## Sterte: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

After dark, two caps together — the AdBlue cap and the diesel one, now and then behind a single flap — may look the same. No one intends it; many designs allow it.

Mostly it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the pump.

A few familiar ways cover most cases.

The refill is rushed outside Oakdale Junior School, because your dash lit up with a warning while the kids were dropped off.

A driver tips the container in outside their house, right off Sterte Avenue, as the day ends.

Another version: dim light, the car park by The Holes Bay, and a driver opening that flap for the first time.

Rented cars, brand-new motors, fleet motors, or the second car in a home with one of each: the least known vehicles see it the most.

Same mistake, same first response — leave it switched off — anywhere you happen to be in Sterte or the remainder of Dorset.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Sterte, and the motor started?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

The fuel filter and pipework have had it pulled along, and any running time carries it on to the high-pressure pump and every injector.

Perhaps returning from Sterte Green, or midway across Sterte, your motor may run lumpy, smoke, lose pace, flash the dash or stall.

No starting it again to check: stop once it is safe, then switch it off.

Each start pulls more of it through.

Sterte sits under 25 miles from the M27; if you were on it, leave at the next junction and stop safely instead of carrying on.

How far it went matters. A few hundred yards across Sterte to the car park by Poole Stadium is a very different job from a run towards Salisbury, under 50 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with each mile.

Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

Wherever your car came to a stop is where all of it gets done, even with more to flush once the motor has been run.

If it's caught quickly, permanent damage is very uncommon.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve around Sterte?

A road by Friends Meeting House, a driveway, a layby or a forecourt: wherever your vehicle has stopped around Sterte, our technicians travel to it.

What got in, roughly the quantity, plus whether the motor has turned over: we check first, because those shape the work.

Next, emptying that tank on the spot removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

The fuel system is rinsed thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind does not rinse out on its own.

Next, your filter: cleaned, or replaced when it has to be. After that clean diesel, then a check of your car.

Most of these jobs are a half-hour job once our engineers turn up, provided your engine hasn't run.

Quiet enough to use outside a house at night, and safe on a working forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

The final step is to bleed the fuel system on new diesel.

Starting it comes next, and then you drive off from where your car is parked, by Poole or on a drive around Sterte.

Before leaving, our engineers make sure it's running smoothly with fresh diesel in.

No workshop is required at any point, with the entire job done then and there.

Afterwards, there is paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

## About Sterte and where it is

Sterte is a coastal suburban area in Dorset, situated near the major town of Poole and close to other nearby places such as Longfleet and Stanley Green. Sterte sits at a low elevation of around 2 metres, reflecting its coastal setting. Sterte is characterized by a high proportion of flat housing, which is typical of many coastal areas in the South West region. Sterte is also within commuting distance of larger cities like Salisbury, which is around 25 miles away.

## Sterte and Dorset: AdBlue drains across the area

Our teams that answer AdBlue jobs around Sterte also cover the spots round it, Longfleet, Poole and Stanley Green among them, and most of Dorset beyond, across the BH postcode area.

Guessing won't help by a county line or anywhere tricky to describe; ring and check.

Sterte is a residential suburb, and an on-site drain suits it: whether the car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our technicians drain it where it stands, so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Sterte: the cost of fixing it

Not one flat figure could be honest, since every job is different.

The cost changes first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that got in. After that it turns on where your car is and whether our van can get to it safely, which is simpler on an open drive than in a tight space behind Longfleet Baptist Church.

Before a quote, not after, each enquiry from Sterte opens with the same three checks: the fuel, the quantity, plus if it ran.

With them, a range narrows to one fixed number.

Before a van sets off, you hear the quote by phone. Then you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing in advance.

Look at your policy whilst we're on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.

## Alongside the vehicle around Sterte, still?

Leaving the vehicle alone is, then, the best thing open to you.

Ignition off, engine off, keys out.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, and whether it ran is all we ask. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest across Dorset, Sterte too.
