# Stockfield: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

AdBlue already in your diesel tank? Then set this page down a moment, keep the ignition and engine off, then phone 0333 366 0103.

Usually, when your motor hasn't run, it's emptied and fully cleaned where the vehicle sits in Stockfield.

Nothing happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page covers the reasons it takes place and the how to prevent it altogether.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel car need its own filler?

Plenty of newer diesels in Acocks Green, like those in Stockfield, run on two fluids; the motor takes only your diesel.

AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to fresh it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

There's a filler on each tank.

Under one flap, next to each other: that is the layout on many motors. On others, AdBlue's filler is under the bonnet or in the boot instead.

Topping up the diesel side at the petrol pump happens constantly.

Rarely filled, AdBlue usually comes from a bottle, poured by someone who has to stop and think which cap to use.

The error lives in that gap.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Stockfield: how it occurs

Seldom is it carelessness: normally three things coincide.

On a drive off Wynford Road before work, or in the car park at The Journey's End on the way home: that's where the hurried top-up takes place. Why the rush? As AdBlue gets low the vehicle warns you, and once it is gone, limp mode follows.

The old car's cap is where your hand goes — but a hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers elsewhere. That's the second factor: a new vehicle.

A spout-topped bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. So the pour, after begun, keeps on.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Stockfield or out in South Yardley.

## The AdBlue filler and your diesel filler: telling them apart

Check these before pouring, on a forecourt around Stockfield or a drive over in Gilbertstone. Seconds, no more.

- Position can mislead; the cap doesn't. AdBlue caps are often blue or carry the word "AdBlue" — diesel ones usually don't.

- Check the size: the smaller neck is, on many cars, the AdBlue one.

- Open the flap and look for a label — plenty of motors mark what belongs in each inlet right there.

- The handbook shows which it lives when your filler isn't next to the diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- Check with the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — when you collect a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park at Acocks Green.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

For the day the light comes on — anywhere you are around West Midlands — a routine to use.

- Not in a rush on the side of Yardley Road, not on a slope, not with your motor running: park then switch off properly.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it works.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Stop once your tank fills or the bottle runs dry; before that, tip gently through its own spout.

- Before you start the car, shut the cap and look again that the diesel cap was never opened off.

If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Leave out step five altogether.

## Stockfield: already put AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the order of things is short. Do not start the motor.

Do not switch your ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

Thinning it with more diesel won't work, because AdBlue sinks to the base instead of mixing — and that is where your fuel is pulled from.

On a forecourt — Shell, Tesco or any other — the staff will usually help push your car away, if you ask.

Your own driveway in Stockfield is where it stays.

Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, if your engine has already run.

Stockfield sits under 5 miles from the M6; on it, take the first junction.

Tell us about how far it went: a run towards Birmingham, under 5 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across Stockfield.

## Our arrival in Stockfield, and what occurs next

Our engineers come to the car wherever it has stopped, whether that is outside Cedars Academy, close to Waterloo Road Chapel or on your own driveway.

Both the work and our price depend on three replies — which fluid, which amount, and whether it has run — so our engineers ask.

Nobody heads out before you've heard the quote by phone.

Then the tank is cleared and the system flushed thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not wash out on its own — which is why that matters more with AdBlue than with petrol.

After the fuel filter is flushed — or replaced, where required — clean diesel is added, and then the vehicle gets tested.

Next our engineers start the engine and check it runs smoothly before we go.

Using pumps safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night, most jobs in which your motor hasn't run need roughly half an hour after we are there.

No money in advance; you settle up on the day. At the end, the VAT invoice and the report from the engineer go to you for your insurer.

It is worth checking your policy while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with many policies.

## AdBlue drains around Stockfield, and West Midlands beyond

Tyseley and Hay Mills are among the places near Stockfield, a residential suburb, that the same teams cover, throughout B postcodes.

Quickest of all: give a B27 6 postcode for the van.

The vehicle doesn't need to shift.

A drive, a lay-by on the way to Oak Meadow Public Open Space, a side street near Acocks Green Baptist Church: our technicians drain it where it is.

Ring and ask instead of assuming if you're near a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, like the back of The Church of Pentecost UK.

## The short version for Stockfield drivers

First, the cap; then, the pour.

If AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank regardless, leave it off and call 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel empties it where it sits, anywhere across West Midlands.
