# Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Stockwood

Engine off, ignition off: that is how you start if AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

As it is water-based, it won't burn and never combines with diesel; trouble only starts once your pump begins drawing it.

If your motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally emptied and thoroughly purged where your car stands around Stockwood.

Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

## Stockwood, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once

Do:

- So no one can turn your ignition on, pull the keys out.

- Put the hazard lights on if you are at all close to moving traffic.

- Which product, and roughly what quantity? Save the bottle or the till receipt, and our technicians will know.

- Our van finds you fastest with a postcode starting BS14 8, or just the name of a street nearby, and so phone from the spot.

Don't:

- No starting your motor — not briefly, not to reposition your car.

- Plenty of diesels power their pump the instant the ignition comes on, and so leave the vehicle off.

- Do not top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Leave it where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short way down Stockwood Lane.

- No emptying it yourself, either, at the roadside.

Get the people behind the counter to help you roll the vehicle away from the pumps if you're on a forecourt around Stockwood, whether it is the Murco or somewhere else.

Stopped on your own drive? Then it stays exactly as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not the engine.

Its own reservoir keeps it, and from there it's sprayed into your exhaust, and there it cleans the fumes.

Nothing in it is meant to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

Tipped in with your diesel, it keeps apart rather than blending — quite different from fuel.

Denser than diesel, it sinks and pools underneath it — the same spot the intake sucks from.

Simplest of all: one that had AdBlue in Hengrove last night and has not been started since. The AdBlue sits at the foot of the tank, untouched — but it would be first through if your engine starts, ahead of any diesel at all.

From there it causes two kinds of harm.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it leaves urea that hardens in filters and tiny channels; meanwhile, because it attacks certain metals, every part it reaches suffers for as long as it remains in there.

Lines carrying AdBlue spell harm overnight for a car parked around Stockwood. Just inside the tank, it stays stable.

Water lubricates nothing. The high-pressure pump and every injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water part damages them in its own right.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is frequently more major than petrol

Petrol put into a diesel on Tesco's forecourt makes your fuel watery — that's the whole issue.

Damage only comes from driving on it. Blended into your diesel and left in that tank, it does nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different matter: not thin fuel, yet no fuel at all.

It cannot just be run through, because it doesn't burn.

Nor can it be watered down, because it splits back out — and the following fill will not rinse away deposits or corrosion. So the flush counts more with AdBlue, and trying your engine "to see", in the centre of Stockwood or out in Stockwood Vale, does more harm than almost any other slip.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Wherever in Bristol your car has stopped, an unrun motor means the AdBlue still inside the tank: the simplest part of any fuel system to clear.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank in Stockwood?

After dark, two caps together — the AdBlue one and the diesel one, occasionally behind one flap — may appear the same. Nobody intends it; many layouts invite it.

Mostly it happens with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the forecourt.

It tends to take place in a few familiar ways.

Rushing, outside Waycroft Academy, after a warning lamp flashed on during the school run, a parent refills the car.

Someone pours the container in at home, right off Bagnell Road, as the day ends.

Or someone unfamiliar with that flap refills the car in dim light, parked in the car park by The Concorde.

It comes up most in a rental, a new motor, a company car, or the spare car of a home with one of each fuel types — the cars drivers use least.

Same slip, an identical first step — leave it off — anywhere you are around Stockwood or the rest of Bristol.

## Already started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Stockwood?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer in that tank.

It has been drawn through your filter and your lines, and if your engine ran for any time, it has reached the high-pressure pump and the injectors.

Watch for lumpy running, smoke, lost power, lights on the dash, or a stall — coming back from Cottle Road Park, perhaps, or part way across Stockwood.

No starting it again to check: pull over when it is safe, then turn everything off.

Every start pulls more of it through.

If you were on the M32, under 5 miles from Stockwood, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

How far it went counts. A couple of hundred yards across Stockwood to the car park by Stockwood Free Church is a very different job from a run towards Bristol, under 5 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with every mile.

Tell us roughly how far it had come.

Our engineers do all of the rinsing where your car has stopped, and once the engine has run there is more of it.

When it's spotted quickly, long-term damage is very rare.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Stockwood?

Anywhere it has come to rest in Stockwood — a forecourt, a layby, a driveway, a road beside Christ The Servant — the van comes to the car.

Which fluid got in, roughly the quantity, plus if the motor has turned over: we check before all else, because those shape the job.

The polluted diesel and the urea leave as one after your tank is emptied, right there.

The system is cleaned thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, since what it leaves behind doesn't rinse out on its own.

A test of the vehicle follows at the end, once fresh diesel goes in and the filter gets flushed or, if needed, replaced.

Not run? In that case count on roughly half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

Low-noise enough for use outside a house at night, and fine on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Bleeding the system with clean diesel comes at the end.

Whether it is a parking bay outside Keynsham or a drive in Stockwood, that is where our engineers start the car and you drive off.

Before we go, our engineers check it is running properly with new diesel in.

No garage is required at any point, with the entire job done on the spot.

Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come at the end.

## About Stockwood and where it is

Stockwood is a suburban area located inland, approximately 3.9 miles from Bristol city centre, with an elevation of around 91 metres. Stockwood sits near the nearby places of Whitchurch, Queen Charlton, and Hicks Gate, and is characterized by its predominant semi-detached housing. Stockwood is home to a population of around 5060 residents, and is situated in the South West region of England, about 104.1 miles west of London.

## AdBlue drains around Stockwood and across Bristol

Our teams that answer AdBlue jobs around Stockwood also cover the locations round it, Whitchurch, Queen Charlton and Hicks Gate among them, and most of Bristol beyond, across the BS postcode area.

Assuming doesn't help close to a county line or somewhere tricky to pin down; ring and check.

No towing is needed. In Stockwood, a residential suburb, a mobile service works: the vehicle is drained on the spot, be it in a drive, a side street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Stockwood: the cost of fixing it

There is no fair single quote, because the jobs are not the same.

What shifts the price is, first, whether the motor has run and for how long; then how much AdBlue went in; and after that where your car is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is simpler on an open driveway than in a tight spot behind New Stockwood Community Association.

With that reason, each call from Stockwood begins by asking the same trio — which fluid got in, what quantity, if it ran — before any figure.

With them, the range narrows to a single firm figure.

Our quote is given during the call, before a van leaves; payment comes on the day, by card or by phone, and nothing upfront.

While our engineer is on the way, dig out your policy: many include misfuelling.

## Stockwood: still alongside your car?

Then the most helpful thing you can do is nothing to the car.

Engine off, keys out, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it ran are everything our technicians need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder throughout Bristol, Stockwood included.
