# Sundorne: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

Motor off, ignition off: that's how you start if AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

The harm starts once it's pulled through the lines — it won't ignite, and it won't blend with diesel.

In Sundorne, AdBlue in a diesel tank caught before the engine runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where your car is.

Ring 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## What to do right now, Sundorne: AdBlue in your diesel tank

Do these:

- Pull your keys out, and so nobody switches the ignition on.

- Put the hazards on if you're anywhere close to moving traffic.

- The empty bottle or the till receipt shows us the fluid and the quantity, and so do not bin it out.

- Call just where you are. Quote a SY1 4 postcode or the closest street name, and nobody has to search for you.

Not to do:

- No starting your motor — not for a second, not to shift the car.

- Switching the key to ignition alone starts your pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.

- Do not top up with diesel to thin it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Any driving at all is best avoided, including a short stretch along Featherbed Lane.

- Beside the road, do not try draining it on your own.

The staff working at any Sundorne forecourt — the Tesco among them — will normally help rolling it aside if you ask.

If you are on your own drive, leave it just where it sits.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not the motor.

Its own reservoir keeps it, and from there it is fed into the exhaust, and there it cleans the gas.

No part inside an injection pump is made for this liquid — and no part of it was meant to travel through one.

Inside a diesel tank it acts very differently from fuel. It does not mix in.

It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of your tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Uffington last night, and has not been started since, is still the easy case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has pulled it in.

From there it does two kinds of damage.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps working on the components it gets to for as long as it remains there.

Lines carrying AdBlue spell damage by morning for a vehicle parked in Sundorne. Just in your tank, it stays the same.

Then there's the water: it brings no protection to the parts that need it the most — the injection pump and each injector.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is frequently worse

A problem of thin fuel is what you get from filling a diesel with petrol at the Esso.

It mixes with your diesel, and whilst it is inside the tank it does no damage; the harm comes from running your motor on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid itself is simply the wrong one.

It doesn't burn, so it cannot just be run through.

Whether your car sits in Ditherington or the heart of Sundorne, firing it up "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other error, and the flush counts for more. Why: it won't stay blended, so diluting it fails; and crystals and corrosion survive the following tankful.

With AdBlue, the good news is no different from petrol.

Wherever across Shropshire your vehicle has come to rest, an unstarted engine leaves the AdBlue still inside the reservoir: the simplest bit of any fuel system to empty.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Sundorne

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of vehicles sits right next to the diesel filler, at times under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Most of the time it occurs with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

The ways it takes place are few and familiar.

Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside Harlescott Junior School the top-up is rushed.

After work, a container is tipped in on a drive close to The Hassacks.

Or the car is topped up in the car park at The Coracle, in poor light, by someone who has never opened that flap before.

The least known vehicles see it the most — rentals, new cars, fleet cars, and the spare vehicle in a family with one of each fuels.

Anywhere in Shropshire, Sundorne as well, the mistake does not change, and neither does the first step: keep it off.

## Sundorne: started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left your tank.

Your filter and lines have had it sucked through, and any running time takes it on to the injection pump and each injector.

Expect rough running, smoke, falling power, warnings on the dash, or a cut-out — coming back from Pimley Community Woodland, perhaps, or part way across Sundorne.

No restarting to check: stop when safe, then switch it off.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Exit the M54, under 10 miles from Sundorne, by the next junction and stop safely, not driving on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Sundorne to the car park by 26th Shrewsbury Scout Group is a very different job from a run towards Wrexham, under 25 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with every mile.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

Wherever your car came to a halt is where all of it gets done, even with more to flush once the motor has been run.

Spotted quickly, it very seldom leaves long-term damage.

## Clearing AdBlue in a diesel around Sundorne: what it takes

The vehicle remains where it is, whether that's a road near Moston Green Community Centre, a driveway, a lay-by or a forecourt around Sundorne, and the van comes to it.

Which fluid was put in, roughly the quantity, plus whether your engine has been run: we check first, since those decide the work.

Next, draining your tank right there takes out the polluted diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

What remains from AdBlue won't flush away unaided, and so the whole system gets a full flush, which matters much more with urea than with petrol.

After that, the filter: flushed, or replaced when it must be. Then fresh diesel, and then a test of your car.

The majority of these jobs are a half-hour visit once our engineers get there, provided the motor has not run.

The pumping gear is explosion-proof, and so a live filling station is no problem, and it is hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

Priming the fuel system with fresh diesel comes at the end.

Whether it is a parking bay at Shrewsbury or a driveway in Sundorne, that is where our technicians fire it up and you head off.

Before leaving, our technicians confirm it is running correctly with clean diesel in.

Since the job is done in its entirety where the vehicle is, a workshop never comes into it.

At the end, you are given the paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

## About Sundorne

Sundorne is a suburban area in Shropshire, situated inland at an elevation of 61 metres, with semi-detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Sundorne is located near several other suburban areas, including Harlescott, Battlefield, and Heathgates, and is approximately 24.7 miles from the city of Wrexham. Sundorne has a population of around 5052 residents, and its proximity to major roads makes it an accessible location. Sundorne is also relatively close to the Welsh border, with the nearest city being Wrexham.

## AdBlue drains around Sundorne and across Shropshire

Harlescott, Battlefield and Heathgates are among the towns around Sundorne that the same vans reach, along with much of Shropshire beyond, over the SY postcode area.

If you are close to a border, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask instead of assuming.

Sundorne is a residential suburb, and a mobile drain suits it: whether your car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, we drain it where it sits, so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## Sundorne: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

There's no fair single price, since the jobs aren't the same.

The cost changes first with how long, if at all, the engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that got in. After that it depends on where the car is and whether a technician can get to it safely, which is simpler on an open drive than in a tight gap behind The Lantern.

Before a quote, not after, each call from Sundorne begins with three checks: the liquid, the quantity, plus if it ran.

When they are known, a range becomes one fixed number.

Before anyone heads out, you hear the price on the phone. Then payment is on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing in advance.

While our engineer is travelling, dig out your policy: plenty cover misfuelling.

## Still alongside your car in Sundorne?

Then the most useful thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, the amount, plus if the engine ran are all our engineers need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest throughout Shropshire, Sundorne included.
