# Taibach: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition remains off and so does the engine.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

It doesn't burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the harm it does begins when the system draws it in.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Taibach, is usually what AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before the motor has been run.

Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

## Taibach, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do at once

To do:

- So nobody can turn your ignition on, pull the keys away.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.

- Hold on to your receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what got in and about how much.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting SA13 1, or the name of the nearest street, brings the van to you without a search.

Things not to do:

- No starting the motor — not briefly, not to reposition the car.

- Many diesels power their fuel pump the instant your ignition goes on, and so keep it off.

- Pouring in extra diesel doesn't help: AdBlue separates out rather than blending.

- Do not drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short distance up Park Street.

- By the road, do not try emptying it yourself.

On a forecourt in Taibach, whether it's the the nearest petrol station or another one, ask the staff to help you roll the car away from the pump.

At your own drive, don't touch it at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

From a separate tank it goes straight to the exhaust, cleaning what the engine emits.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves really differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and collects at the bottom of your tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from.

Once the pump runs, the AdBlue is first to be pulled through. Before then it sits underneath the diesel, and that is why a car filled in Velindre yesterday and not started remains the simple one, provided no one touches the key.

Once it is drawn in, the harm takes two forms.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps working on the components it gets to for as long as it remains there.

Pipes holding AdBlue mean damage by morning for a vehicle parked around Taibach. Only inside the tank, it stays the same.

The water in it causes damage of its own: the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is frequently more major than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the Tesco and you have a fault of thin fuel.

No damage comes while it sits unused, mixed into your diesel — only when the motor works on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid as such is simply the wrong one.

Because it does not burn, running it through isn't an option.

Whether your car is in Lletyharri or the centre of Taibach, firing it up "to see" costs more in this case than nearly any other error, and the flush matters for more. Why: it will not stay blended, and so watering it down is impossible; and deposits and corrosion survive the following tankful.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Never run? Then the AdBlue sits only in your tank, the simplest bit of the whole system to empty, wherever the car has stopped around Neath Port Talbot.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Taibach?

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on many cars rests right next to the diesel filler, sometimes under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

It usually takes place at home, from a container grabbed on the journey home, not at the filling station.

The ways it happens are few and familiar.

The top-up is hurried outside the local primary school, because your dash flashed with a warning as the kids were taken off.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Caradog Street.

Or the car is topped up in the car park at Taibach Rugby Club, in poor light, by somebody who has never opened that flap before.

Rented vehicles, new vehicles, fleet motors, or the spare vehicle in a family with one of each: the least familiar vehicles get it most.

Wherever you're around Taibach or the remainder of Neath Port Talbot, it is the same mistake and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Taibach: started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

In that case, the AdBlue is no longer in your tank.

It's been pulled through the fuel filter and your lines, and if your motor ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors.

Expect rough running, exhaust smoke, falling power, lights on your dash, or a stall — coming back from Talbot Memorial Park, perhaps, or midway across Taibach.

Pull over when safe. Turn off. Leave the car off instead of testing it again.

With each start, more of it is pulled through.

Taibach lies under a mile from the M4; if you were on it, leave at the first junction and stop somewhere safe instead of driving on.

Every mile pushes the AdBlue further in. That's why crossing Taibach to park beside Kingdom Hall and a drive of under 10 miles towards Swansea are such distinct jobs.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

We do all of the flushing where the car has stopped, and once your engine has been run there is more of it.

If it is noticed soon, permanent damage is very uncommon.

## Taibach: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

Our technicians come to the vehicle, wherever it has stopped in Taibach: a side street near Taibach Community Library, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Before anything else we ask what was put in, roughly how much, and whether your engine has run, since those replies decide this work.

Next, draining the tank right there removes the contaminated diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

Residue from AdBlue will not flush out unaided, and so the whole system gets a careful flush, which counts far more with urea than for petrol.

After that, the fuel filter: flushed, or changed if it must be. Then fresh diesel, and then a test of your vehicle.

If your engine hasn't run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once our technicians arrive.

Explosion-proof pumps make a busy forecourt safe to work on, and they're quiet enough to spare the street at night.

Last, your system is primed with clean diesel.

You drive off as soon as we have started the car, and it makes no difference whether the vehicle is on a drive around Taibach or in a bay by Port Talbot Parkway.

Our technicians check it runs correctly on fresh diesel before we leave.

No garage is needed at any point, with the whole job done on the spot.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers want.

## About Taibach and where it is

Taibach is a coastal suburban area in south Wales, situated near the town of Port Talbot and approximately 7.7 miles from Swansea. Taibach lies at a low elevation of around 14 metres, close to the sea and near neighbouring communities such as Pen-y-cae and Goytre. Taibach has a mix of housing types, but is predominantly characterized by terraced homes. Taibach is part of the wider Neath Port Talbot county borough, within commuting distance of Swansea and around 156.5 miles from London.

## Taibach and Neath Port Talbot: AdBlue drains across the area

AdBlue jobs around Taibach are passed to teams that serve the places near it — Pen-y-cae, Goytre as well as Port Talbot — and most of Neath Port Talbot further out, throughout SA postcodes.

Ring and ask instead of guessing when you're by a border, or somewhere awkward to pin down.

No moving is needed. In Taibach, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you works: your car is emptied where it stands, whether in a drive, a residential street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## Taibach: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Every job differs, and so not one fixed price would be honest.

Whether the motor has run, and for how long, comes first in what moves the cost. How much AdBlue got in comes next, and then the location of the car, since an open driveway is easier for a technician to reach safely than a tight gap behind Port Talbot War Memorial.

Which fluid got in, what quantity, and if it ran: every Taibach enquiry opens with precisely those, before any figure, not afterwards.

Their answers shrink the range down to one figure.

Priced on the call before the van sets out, the job is settled on the day — card or phone, no deposit.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours whilst we are on the way.

## In Taibach and still next to the vehicle?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to your car.

Engine off, keys out, ignition off.

Say it was AdBlue, about what quantity, and if it ran, on 0333 366 0103. From there Petrol in Diesel handles it, across Taibach or wherever in Neath Port Talbot.
