# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Tanerdy? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has got into the diesel tank, leave your motor off then keep the ignition off.

Water with urea dissolved in it: that is AdBlue.

The harm starts once it is pulled through the pump — it will not ignite, and it will not blend with diesel.

In Tanerdy, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before the engine runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where the car is.

Ring 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Tanerdy, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do right away

To do:

- Remove your keys, which stops someone turning the power on.

- Near moving traffic? So put the hazards on.

- Which fluid, and roughly how much quantity? Hang on to the bottle or the receipt, and our technicians will see.

- Give us a postcode starting SA31 2, or whichever street is nearest, and our van finds you straight — so call wherever you are.

Don't do these:

- Moving your car even a short way is no reason to start your motor.

- Your ignition stays off: on lots of diesels, switching it on is enough to start the fuel pump.

- Don't top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Even a short stretch down Glynderi is too far to drive the car.

- By the road, don't attempt emptying it yourself.

At a forecourt around Tanerdy, whether it is the Gulf or another one, ask the staff to help you push the car clear of the pump.

If you are on your own drive, leave it just where it sits.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Meant for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in your engine.

Kept in a separate tank, it is injected into the exhaust to treat the fumes.

Nothing in it is meant to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

It does not combine. Once it's tipped into the tank, AdBlue acts nothing like fuel.

It's heavier than diesel, so it sinks and collects at the bottom of the tank, which is where the pickup sucks fuel from.

The first thing your fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Tre-gynwr last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of that tank, and nothing has pulled it in.

After it is sucked in, the damage comes in two forms.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps running on the parts it reaches for as long as it stays there.

Overnight, a vehicle sitting around Tanerdy with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; where it's only in your tank, nothing changes.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water part damages them by itself.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Put petrol in a diesel at the Texaco and you have an issue of thin fuel.

It mixes with the diesel, and while it is inside the tank it causes no damage; the damage comes from running the engine on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid as such is simply the wrong one.

It can't just be run through, since it does not burn.

Nor can it be watered down, because it separates again — and the next fill will not clear away deposits or corrosion. So the flush matters for more with AdBlue, and turning the key "to see", in the heart of Tanerdy or out in Llangunnor, costs more than almost any other error.

With AdBlue, the good news is no separate from petrol.

Emptying a tank is the simplest part on a fuel system, and without start-up, the AdBlue stays in there — anywhere in Carmarthenshire your car sits.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Tanerdy?

It's not on purpose. Plenty of cars keep the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel one, now and then under a single flap, and mixing them up is simple after dark.

Most of the time it happens with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the pump.

Mostly, it happens in one of a couple of familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up takes place in a hurry outside the local primary school.

In the evening, a container goes in on a driveway close to Penybanc.

Otherwise, in dim light by New King George, the vehicle is topped up by a driver using that flap for the first time.

Rented motors, brand-new cars, company vehicles, or the second car in a home with one of each: the least familiar vehicles get it most.

Wherever you are around Tanerdy or the remainder of Carmarthenshire, it's the same error and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Tanerdy: started the engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left your tank.

The filter and pipework have had it sucked along, and some running time carries it on to the injection pump and every injector.

Expect rough running, smoke, falling power, warnings on the dash, or a cut-out — coming back from Parc Hinds, perhaps, or midway across Tanerdy.

No restarting to check: stop when safe, then switch it off.

Each start pulls more of that through.

If you were on the M4, under 15 miles from Tanerdy, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

How far it went matters. A couple of hundred yards across Tanerdy to the car park by Carmarthen Roman Amphitheatre is a very different job from a run towards Swansea, under 25 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with every mile.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

Our technicians do all of the cleaning where the vehicle has stopped, and once the motor has been run there is more of it.

When it is noticed soon, long-term damage is very rare.

## Tanerdy: how AdBlue is emptied from a diesel

The car stays where it is, whether that is a street near Y Priordy, a drive, a lay-by or a filling station in Tanerdy, and our van travels to it.

Three answers decide the work, so before anything else our engineers ask what went in, roughly the amount, and whether your motor has run.

Next, emptying your tank right there removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue together.

A full flush counts far more after AdBlue than after petrol, since residue will not wash away by itself.

The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

Not run? In that case count on about half an hour on site for most jobs.

The pumping gear is explosion-proof, so a live forecourt is no fault, and it is hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

Last, your system is bled with fresh diesel.

At that point we fire it up and you set off, whether from a parking space by Carmarthen or a driveway around Tanerdy.

We check it runs properly on clean diesel before leaving.

Our engineers do it all wherever the vehicle has ended up, and it never has to go to a garage.

Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and you get both afterwards.

## About Tanerdy itself

Tanerdy is a suburban area situated on the shores of a lake in Carmarthenshire, with a relatively low elevation of around 50 metres. Tanerdy lies within commuting distance of Swansea, which is approximately 22 miles away. Tanerdy is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its suburban nature. Tanerdy is also close to nearby places such as Cwm-oernant and Abergwili.

## Tanerdy and Carmarthenshire: AdBlue drains across the area

AdBlue jobs around Tanerdy are passed to teams that serve the places near it — Cwm-oernant, Abergwili as well as Carmarthen — and much of Carmarthenshire further out, throughout SA postcodes.

Phone and ask rather than guess if you're close to a border, or anywhere awkward to explain.

A mobile service fits Tanerdy, a residential suburb: you have no need to take your vehicle to us, since our technicians drain it on the spot, in a drive, a residential street, a car park or a filling station.

## Tanerdy: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Not one single figure could be honest, because each job is different.

Three things shift the price: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the car is. That last one turns on whether a van can get to it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight spot behind Penuel Baptist Chapel.

What went in, what quantity, plus whether the engine ran: each Tanerdy call begins by asking precisely those, before any quote, not afterwards.

When they are answered, a range becomes a single firm number.

Before a van heads out, you are told our price on the phone. And you pay on the day, card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.

## Still beside your car around Tanerdy?

Then the most helpful thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out, engine off, ignition off.

Petrol in Diesel handles the remainder, across Tanerdy or wherever in Carmarthenshire, once you ring 0333 366 0103 saying it was AdBlue, about what quantity, and whether the engine ran.
