# What Now? AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in The Edge

Everything turns on one detail: whether the engine has started since the AdBlue was added — far more than anything else.

Over in Butler Green or right in The Edge, an unrun motor should stay that way.

Normally that means draining and properly flushing it right there in The Edge — and so keep your ignition and motor off and ring 0333 366 0103.

When your motor has run, pull in somewhere safe straight away, then turn it off.

The job is bigger, but the first stage is the same.

Compare what happened to one of the ones below, anywhere in Greater Manchester you happen to be.

## AdBlue in a diesel on a The Edge forecourt

Picture it: stood by the pump, gripping the nozzle, you spot the cap you took off was not the correct one.

Perhaps you're at the Gulf, possibly at the Texaco, possibly somewhere else around The Edge.

What it means: this is the ideal spot to find out.

Nothing has drawn it in, and so the AdBlue stays just inside your tank.

Freeing the petrol pump is no excuse to run it — so do not get back in.

Ask the attendants to help you roll the vehicle into a parking bay, keep the till receipt or the bottle, and ring us from the forecourt.

Can't move the vehicle by the petrol pump? Our explosion-proof equipment makes a busy forecourt sensible, so we can drain it where it is.

## At home around The Edge with AdBlue in your diesel tank

Days had gone by with the warning light on.

Bought a bottle, tipped it in outside the house, recycled the empty — and only then checked the cap a second time, after the fact.

Houses just off Vicarage Street get hit as often as anywhere else.

The upshot: zero driving since leaves this nearly as good to spotting it at the pump.

Diesel and AdBlue keep separate: the AdBlue settles to the base of the tank and stays there, no matter how long it waits.

Next: the keys in the house, so nobody drives the car off first thing. After that, ring.

In Hollins or here around The Edge, the draining happens on your driveway.

The pumps are quiet enough to use outside a house after dark.

## AdBlue in a diesel and already driving around The Edge?

A short way beyond filling up, your motor started misbehaving: rough running, smoke, lost power, lights on the dash.

Perhaps it was on Devon Way, maybe on the way out towards Manchester, under 10 miles away.

Meaning? Your pump has sucked the AdBlue in.

It's been through the fuel filter and the fuel lines and, the further you went, into your high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors.

It goes further with every mile covered and every restart.

Your move: stop anywhere safe, then turn your motor off.

On the A62, under a mile from The Edge, that means the next junction, not the services further on.

No test restarts: clearing isn't something AdBlue does.

Phone us and say how far you drove.

## AdBlue in the wrong tank: hire, lease and company cars

You've just had this vehicle a week.

Your own car either has no AdBlue or puts it somewhere different, and so no one warned you the AdBlue inlet sits just next to the diesel.

Throughout Greater Manchester, no one is safe from it.

Put simply: an extra step on top of the cases above, which depend on if it has run.

The owner often needs to sign off any work, under many hire and fleet contracts.

Next: ring the rental company or the fleet manager first, then us — settling it before our arrival is faster.

If you are stranded in the car park outside Moston, or by The Canon George Community & Parish Hall, while you wait for an answer, leave your car off.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank? Not sure, around The Edge

At times the fair answer is "I think so".

A faint ammonia-like whiff hangs around your filler, the bottle feels too light, and the cap you took off is hard to recall.

The gates of St Margaret's CofE Junior Infant and Nursery School in a hurry, say, or a friend's driveway out in Copster Hill.

What it means: a little spilled about your filler does no damage to the motor.

AdBlue inside your diesel tank does.

You can't tell which by turning the key, and doing so would suck in any AdBlue that is in that tank.

Next: assume it went in, and keep your motor off.

Ring us and explain what you saw; we would rather check a tank that turns out free of AdBlue than drain one that has already been run.

## Every AdBlue drain in The Edge shares these stages

Every situation has the same start to the job.

We come to the vehicle, whether it's at a forecourt, a driveway, the car park outside Welcome Inn or a side street near Chapel Road Synthetic Pitch, and ask three things: what got in, roughly how much, and if your motor has run.

Those replies decide this work, and you get our quote on the phone, before anyone sets off.

AdBlue crystallises and eats at certain metals used in fuel systems, and so it won't rinse out on its own; that's why a full flush, after the drain, matters much more here than with petrol.

The fuel filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the car is tested.

Not started? In that case roughly half an hour on site covers most jobs.

Our technicians start it last.

Before our technicians leave, it's tested to be sure it runs correctly on fresh diesel.

Long-term damage is very uncommon when it is spotted soon, and the whole job is done where the vehicle is.

Nothing is taken upfront, payment happens on the day, and you get what the insurer asks for: an engineer report and a VAT invoice.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.

Tricky to pin down? Close to St Margaret or a county line? Asking is better than guessing, and so phone.
