# Treuddyn: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

If AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank, leave the motor off then keep your ignition off.

Chemically, AdBlue is simply urea in water.

It doesn't burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the harm it does begins when the system pulls it in.

If your motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally emptied and carefully rinsed where the vehicle stands in Treuddyn.

First, ring us on 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Treuddyn: the first few minutes

Do these:

- So no one can switch your ignition on, take the keys out.

- If you are at all near moving traffic, put your hazards on.

- The empty bottle or your receipt tells us the product and the amount, so don't throw it away.

- Call right where you are. Quote a CH7 4 postcode or the nearest street name, and no one has to hunt for you.

Not to do:

- No starting the motor — not for a second, not to shift your car.

- Do not switch your ignition on. On plenty of diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- No more fuel on top. The AdBlue will not mix, so it is pointless.

- Any driving at all is best avoided, including a short distance down Ffordd Y Llan.

- Draining the tank on your own beside the road is not one to try.

The attendants on duty at any Treuddyn forecourt — the Applegreen among them — will normally help rolling it clear if you ask.

On that drive, your car stays just where it was left.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

Made for the exhaust, AdBlue has no place in your motor.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it.

Neither side suits the other: urea doesn't belong in an injection pump, and an injection pump cannot take urea.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, once tipped in, won't. The behaviour is not at all like fuel's.

It sinks, since it's denser than diesel, and settles down where the intake draws its supply from.

Easiest of all: a vehicle that had AdBlue in Pontybodkin last night and hasn't been started since. The AdBlue sits at the base of your tank, untouched — but it will be the first thing through if the engine starts, before any diesel at all.

From there it does two kinds of harm.

It eats at certain metals found in fuel systems, working on whatever it reaches till it's cleared from the system. And when the water evaporates, the urea forms crystals that block filters and settle in narrow channels.

Pipes carrying AdBlue spell damage by morning for a car parked in Treuddyn. Only inside the tank, it stays stable.

Diesel protects the injection pump and each injector as it flows; water offers no lubrication, which is a second kind of damage.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel frequently the bigger fault?

Fill a diesel with petrol in error over at the Gulf, and the problem is diluted fuel.

Blended through the diesel and sitting still, it's no threat for now; using your motor is the harm.

AdBlue in a diesel is a problem of the wrong substance altogether.

It does not burn, so it cannot just be run through.

Deposits and corrosion remain after the next fill, and AdBlue separates again out of the diesel, and so watering it can't help. That is why the flush matters more, and trying the engine "to see" does more harm here than almost any other slip — in Rhyd-y-ceirw or the heart of Treuddyn alike.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

If your engine has not run, the AdBlue is still inside your tank, and the tank is the easiest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever in Flintshire the vehicle is standing.

## Treuddyn: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

It's not on purpose. Plenty of cars keep the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel one, now and then under one flap, and muddling them up is simple after dark.

A bottle picked up while driving home and poured in outside the house, rather than at the forecourt, is the typical route.

Mostly, it occurs in one of a couple of familiar ways.

Rushing, outside the local primary school, after a warning lamp flashed on during the school run, someone tops up your car.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Llys Degwym.

Or the vehicle is topped up in the car park outside the pub in the village, in poor light, by somebody who has never opened that flap before.

Rented cars, new motors, company motors, or the second car in a home with one of each: the least known vehicles see it the most.

Leave it off: that's the first response to an identical slip, wherever in Treuddyn or the remainder of Flintshire you are.

## Started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank around Treuddyn?

The AdBlue has left the tank, then.

With any running time, it travels to the injection pump and every injector, having passed via the filter and pipework.

You may notice your engine running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, possibly on the way back from Nant Wood or halfway across Treuddyn.

No restarting to test: stop once it is safe, then switch everything off.

More of it is pulled through with each start.

Treuddyn lies under 15 miles from the M56; if you were on it, leave by the first junction and pull up safely rather than carrying on.

Every mile carries the AdBlue further into your system. That's why crossing Treuddyn to park near Treuddyn Village Hall and a drive of under 10 miles for Wrexham are very separate jobs.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

Our technicians do all of the rinsing where your car has ended up, and once the engine has been run there is more of it.

Caught quickly, it very seldom leaves lasting damage.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel in Treuddyn: what it takes

The car remains put, whether that is a street beside Saint Marys Parish Church, a driveway, a layby or a forecourt in Treuddyn, and our van comes to it.

Before anything else our technicians ask what was put in, about how much, and whether your engine has been run, because those replies determine this work.

The polluted diesel and the urea come out together after your tank is drained, right there.

A careful flush matters far more with AdBlue than with petrol, since residue will not clear out by itself.

After that, the fuel filter: flushed, or replaced when it must be. After that fresh diesel, and then a check of your car.

Not run? Then count on roughly half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

Explosion-proof pumps mean a live forecourt sensible to work on, and they're quiet enough to spare the neighbours at night.

Last, the system is primed with new diesel.

At that point we fire it up and you head off, whether from a parking bay by Penyffordd or a drive in Treuddyn.

It is checked on clean diesel to be sure it runs correctly before our technicians head off.

Our technicians do it all wherever the vehicle has stopped, and it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

Afterwards, there is paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

## AdBlue drains in Treuddyn and across Flintshire

Pentre, Coed-talon and Bryn Common are among the places around Treuddyn that the same teams serve, along with most of Flintshire beyond, throughout the CH postcode area.

If you're close to a border, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask instead of assuming.

A van that comes to you suits Treuddyn, a rural village: you have no need to take the car to us, because we empty it on the spot, on a drive, a residential street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out around Treuddyn?

Each job differs, so no fixed price is honest.

The cost shifts first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that went in. After that it turns on where the vehicle is and whether a technician can get to it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight spot behind Carreg-y-Llech Neolythic Monolith.

Which fluid got in, what quantity, and if it ran: each Treuddyn enquiry opens by asking precisely those, before any quote, not after.

Those replies narrow a range down to one figure.

You hear that quote by phone, before anyone heads out, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## Treuddyn: still alongside the car?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Engine off, keys out, ignition off.

Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder, in Treuddyn or anywhere within Flintshire, once you call 0333 366 0103 saying it's AdBlue, about how big an amount, and if it ran.
