# Turbary Common: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition remains off and so does the engine.

Water with urea dissolved in it: that's AdBlue.

It doesn't burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the harm it does starts when the system draws it in.

If the engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally drained and carefully flushed where the car sits around Turbary Common.

Nothing comes before ringing 0333 366 0103.

## What to do straight away, Turbary Common: AdBlue in the diesel tank

To do:

- Pull the keys out, and so nobody switches your ignition on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.

- Which product, and roughly how much amount? Save the bottle or the receipt, and we will know.

- Ring just where you are. Quote a BH11 8 postcode or the nearest street sign, and nobody has to hunt for you.

Never do these:

- Moving your car even a few yards is no reason to fire up your motor.

- Your ignition stays off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to start your pump.

- Pouring in extra diesel does not work: AdBlue settles out instead of blending.

- Even a short stretch along Lydford Gardens is too far to drive it.

- Don't try to drain the vehicle yourself at the kerbside.

On a forecourt in Turbary Common, whether it's the Esso or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the car clear of the pump.

Parked on your own driveway? Then it stays just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

Not your engine but the exhaust is where AdBlue belongs.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

Nothing inside a fuel pump is made for this fluid — and no part of that was meant to go that way.

It doesn't blend. After it's tipped into a tank of diesel, AdBlue acts nothing like diesel.

It sinks, because it's heavier than diesel, and settles low where the intake draws its supply from.

Once your system runs, the AdBlue is first to go through. Before then it sits beneath your diesel, which is why a car topped up in West Howe yesterday and not started remains the straightforward one, provided nobody touches your key.

From there it does two kinds of harm.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps running on the parts it gets to for as long as it remains there.

By daybreak, a car parked in Turbary Common with AdBlue in its lines gets worse; if it is just in that tank, nothing changes.

Water protects nothing. The high-pressure pump and each injector depend on diesel running through them, so the water content harms them in its own right.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is often worse

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Sainsbury's's forecourt leaves the fuel watery — that's the whole problem.

Mixed through the diesel and left still, it's no threat at that stage; using your motor does the damage.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid as such is simply the wrong one.

Because it doesn't burn, running it through is not an option.

Crystals and corrosion stay after the next tankful, and AdBlue splits back out of the diesel, so watering it won't help. That is why the flush counts so much, and turning your key "to see" costs more with AdBlue than almost any other mistake — in Talbot Village or the heart of Turbary Common alike.

With AdBlue, the good news is no distinct from petrol.

If your motor hasn't run, the AdBlue is still inside your tank, and that tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever across Dorset your car is sitting.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Turbary Common

After dark, two caps side by side — the AdBlue cap and the diesel one, occasionally behind a single flap — may look the same. Nobody means it; many designs invite it.

A container bought when heading home and poured in outside the house, instead of at the forecourt, is the usual story.

It tends to occur in a couple of familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside Heathlands Primary Academy.

Near Fernheath Road, someone tips a bottle in on that drive after work.

Another pattern: darkness, the car park outside Kings Arms, and someone using that flap the first time.

The least familiar cars see it most — rentals, brand-new ones, company cars, and the spare vehicle in a family with one of each fuel types.

Wherever you are around Turbary Common or the rest of Dorset, it is the same error and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Already started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank in Turbary Common?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank.

With any running, it travels to the injection pump and each injector, after passing through the fuel filter and lines.

Watch for lumpy running, exhaust smoke, falling power, lights on the dash, or a stall — coming back from Winter Pond Heath, say, or part way across Turbary Common.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart it to check.

More of it is pulled through with each start.

If you were on the M27, under 25 miles from Turbary Common, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

Distance counts: each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into your system, and so driving towards Salisbury, under 25 miles away, gives a far larger job than crossing Turbary Common to the car park by Cunningham Crescent Skate Park.

Let us know roughly how far it had come.

We do all of the rinsing where the vehicle has ended up, and once your engine has been run there is more of it.

Very rarely does it leave permanent damage when it's caught early.

## Turbary Common: how AdBlue is emptied from a diesel

The car remains where it is, whether that's a street near Kinson and West Howe Children's Centre, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt around Turbary Common, and the van travels to it.

Three replies shape the job, so before anything else we ask what got in, roughly what quantity, plus whether your motor has turned over.

On the spot, your tank is then emptied, and all of the polluted diesel and the urea come out at once.

The system is purged thoroughly, which counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, because what it leaves behind doesn't rinse out on its own.

Your filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

About half an hour once we arrive is typical for most jobs when the motor hasn't run.

Our equipment is explosion-proof, so a live filling station is no fault, and it is quiet enough for a residential street after dark.

Last, your system is primed with new diesel.

Firing it up comes next, and then you head off from where the car is parked, by Branksome or on a driveway around Turbary Common.

Before we leave, our engineers confirm it's running properly with clean diesel in.

No garage is required at any point, with the whole job done then and there.

Afterwards, you are given paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice plus a written report from the engineer.

Close to a border, or anywhere awkward to explain? Checking is better than assuming, so phone.

Anywhere your vehicle stands — your drive at home, a side street, a parking area, a forecourt — we empty it on the spot, and there's no need to take it to us; which suits Turbary Common, a residential suburb, well.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right around Turbary Common

There is no fair single quote, since the jobs are not the same.

Whether your engine has run, and for how long, comes first in what moves the cost. How much AdBlue got in comes next, and then the location of the vehicle, since an open driveway is easier for our van to reach safely than a tight spot behind West Howe Library.

What went in, how much, and whether the engine ran: every Turbary Common call begins by asking precisely that, ahead of a figure, not afterwards.

Those replies shrink a range right down to a single figure.

Priced on the call before the van sets out, it is settled on the day — card or phone, nothing in advance.

Misfuelling cover comes with many insurance policies, so it is worth looking at yours before the van arrives.

## Turbary Common: still alongside your car?

Right now, the most helpful thing to do with your car is to not touch it.

Ignition off, engine off, keys out.

Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest, in Turbary Common or anywhere within Dorset, after you call 0333 366 0103 to say it's AdBlue, roughly how big an amount, and whether it ran.
