# Uley: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

Leave the engine and ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103 first — the rest can wait when AdBlue is already in the diesel tank.

A drain and a thorough flush, carried out just where your vehicle sits around Uley, is usually what it needs when found before your engine runs.

Nothing happened yet? Below, the rest of the page explains the why it occurs and the ways to prevent it altogether.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel vehicle need its own filler?

Diesel feeds your engine — yet many current diesels driven round Uley and Owlpen carry a second liquid too.

AdBlue goes to your exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to clean it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

Each tank has its own filler.

Other vehicles keep the AdBlue filler in the boot or under the bonnet; plenty more have the two side by side behind one flap.

Diesel goes in at every filling station visit, again and again.

Far less regularly, the AdBlue side is topped up — mostly from a bottle, by someone thinking about where it goes.

That gap is where the error lives.

## How does AdBlue in your diesel tank take place in Uley?

Three things tend to come together, and carelessness is seldom one of them.

Hurry follows from the warning. Your car tells you as AdBlue runs low, and an empty tank sends the vehicle into limp mode — so the top-up happens quickly, before work on a drive off South Street, or heading home in the car park outside Old Crown.

Then your car is strange. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one did not, and your hand gets to for the cap it would have used on the old one.

A spout-topped bottle meets no obstacle at a diesel filler any more than at an AdBlue one. So the pour, after started, carries on.

Crawley or the heart of Uley: it is the same few seconds either way.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Before you pour anything, whether on a drive in Rockstowes or a forecourt around Uley, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Check the cap instead of going by where it sits: AdBlue caps are often blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones normally are not.

- On plenty of cars, the size gives it away: AdBlue gets the smaller filler neck.

- Open the filler flap and check for a label — plenty of vehicles show which belongs in which filler right there.

- The handbook shows where it lives when the filler is not next to your diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- The previous driver knows. Check when you collect a rental or fleet car — at Cam & Dursley's car park, say — not when the light appears.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

Anywhere around Gloucestershire the light comes on, here is a routine for that day.

- Switch off after you park — level ground, motor stopped, and never in a rush by The Orchard at the roadside.

- Find the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and say the name "AdBlue" aloud as unscrewing it. It seems silly. It works.

- Both under one flap? Then make sure the lid on the diesel filler stays shut ahead of raising the bottle.

- Using the bottle's own spout, tip slowly — and stop when it's full or the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check a second time. Make sure the diesel cap was never opened. Only then start your car.

Stop there if you find, at step two or three, that you've already poured into the diesel side.

Stage five is out.

## Put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Uley already?

Then the order of things is short. Don't start your motor.

Leave your ignition off as well, because on plenty of diesels it by itself runs the fuel pump.

Thinning it with extra diesel fails, because AdBlue settles to the bottom instead of mixing — and that is where your fuel is pulled from.

If you are on a forecourt, whether it is the Texaco or the Shell, ask the attendants to help push the vehicle away from the pump.

Leave it where it is if you are on your own driveway around Uley.

When your motor has been run by now, stop somewhere safe and turn the car off.

Uley lies under 5 miles from the M5; there, take the next exit.

About how far did it go? Hopping across Uley is smaller a job than a run of under 15 miles to Gloucester, so tell us.

## Uley: what occurs when our technicians arrive

We come to the vehicle wherever it has stopped, whether that's outside Uley Church of England Primary School, near Uley and Owlpen Village Hall or on your own driveway.

Our engineers ask what got in, about how much, and if it has run, because the replies decide the work and the quote.

You hear that price by phone, before anyone heads out.

Next: draining, then a thorough flush of the entire system.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not wash out on its own.

Filter flushed or, if needed, replaced; clean diesel in; and then a test of your vehicle.

The engine is started next and tested to be sure it runs smoothly, all before our technicians head off.

Using pumps fine on a busy forecourt and quiet enough for use outside a house at night, most jobs in which the engine has not run take about half an hour after our technicians are there.

Payment happens on the day, not upfront, and you receive the paperwork your insurer asks for: an engineer's report and a VAT invoice.

It is worth looking at your policy while we travel to you: misfuelling cover comes with plenty of policies.

## AdBlue drains in Uley and across Gloucestershire

As a village, Uley shares its vans surrounding areas — Bencombe, Shadwell — right across GL postcodes and the wider area around them.

Fastest of all: quote a GL11 5 postcode to our van.

Moving the vehicle isn't necessary.

Wherever it sits — beside St Giles, on a layby heading to The Green, on a drive — that is where it is emptied.

Ring and ask instead of assuming if you are near a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, like the back of Uley Bury.

## For Uley people, the short version

Before you pour, read the cap.

If AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank anyway, leave it off and call 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel clears it where it waits, anywhere across Gloucestershire.
