# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Upper Langwith: How It Occurs and How to Stop It

Leave your motor and ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103 now — reading can wait when AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

Usually, when your motor has not turned, it is drained and thoroughly cleaned where your car sits around Upper Langwith.

The rest of this page covers why it happens and how to make sure it does not — handy if you're reading ahead of time.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel motor need its own filler?

Many current diesels on the roads round Upper Langwith and Nether Langwith carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to your engine.

Its own tank holds it, and from there it goes to the exhaust, where spraying cleans the fumes.

Each tank comes with a filler of its own.

Under one flap, next to each other: that is the layout on many cars. Elsewhere, AdBlue's filler sits under the bonnet or in the boot instead.

Topping up the diesel side at the pump goes on constantly.

The AdBlue side is filled far less regularly, normally from a bottle, and normally by someone who has to stop and think where it goes.

It is in that gap that the mistake happens.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Upper Langwith: how it takes place

Carelessness rarely causes it. What does is three things lining up together.

First, the warning. Low AdBlue brings a message from your car, and letting it run out leads to limp mode — hence a hurried top-up, maybe before work off Rectory Road, or outside Devonshire Arms on the way home that evening.

New-to-you motors come next, too. Hire cars, new cars and company cars put their fillers in new places, and the hand reaches for the cap used on the old one.

A spouted bottle meets no obstacle at a diesel filler any more than at an AdBlue one. And so the tip, after started, keeps on.

Whether it takes place in Langwith or the middle of Upper Langwith, it is the same few seconds.

## The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart

Be it a Upper Langwith forecourt or a drive out in Whaley Thorns, take a few seconds over these before anything goes in.

- Colour and lettering: an AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap normally doesn't. Go by the cap, not its position.

- Check the size: the smaller filler neck is, on many cars, the AdBlue one.

- Look inside the fuel flap: many motors carry a label there saying which fuel goes where.

- In the boot or under the bonnet: that's where the filler sits if it's not by the diesel cap, and the handbook says which.

- The previous driver will know. Check when you pick up a rental or company car — at Langwith - Whaley Thorns's car park, perhaps — not once the light appears.

## How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank

Anywhere across Derbyshire the light comes on, this is a routine for that day.

- Turn off once parked — flat ground, motor off, and not in a rush beside Scarcliffe Lanes at the roadside.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it works.

- Leave your diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check your diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Stop when your tank is topped up or the bottle is empty; until then, pour gently through its built-in spout.

- Before you start the car, close the cap and look again that your diesel cap never opened off.

Find at the second or third step that AdBlue went into the wrong tank? That is where you stop.

Don't go on to step five.

## Upper Langwith: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Then the order of things is short. Don't start your motor.

The fuel pump starts on many diesels as soon as the ignition is switched on — and so keep it off.

Do not top up with diesel to thin it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where your fuel is sucked from.

If you're at a forecourt, whether it's the JET or the Texaco, ask the attendants to help push the car clear of the pump.

If you are on your own drive in Upper Langwith, leave the car where it is.

Already run? Stop once it is safe, then turn off.

Leave the M1 — under 5 miles out of Upper Langwith — at the first exit.

A short hop across Upper Langwith is a smaller job than a run towards Sheffield, under 25 miles away, and so tell us about how far it went.

## What occurs when our engineers get there in Upper Langwith

Anywhere the vehicle came to rest, be it by Langwith Bassett Primary Academy, near Holy Cross or on your own drive, our van comes to it.

What liquid went in, the amount, and if it ran: our technicians ask because those answers set the work and quote.

No one sets off before you've heard the quote over the phone.

Draining your tank comes next, followed by a full flush of the system.

Much more than with petrol, it matters with AdBlue: crystals build up, some metals are attacked, and nothing clears out on its own, no matter how long it sits.

After your filter has been flushed — or renewed, where required — clean diesel goes in, and then your car gets tested.

Before we go, we fire it up and make sure that it's running smoothly.

With pumps safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night, most jobs where the engine hasn't run take roughly half an hour once our engineers are there.

The insurer usually wants an engineer's report and the VAT invoice, and you get both once this job is done. Payment is on the day, with no money upfront.

Wrong-fuel cover is part of many insurance policies — and so make use of the wait to look at yours.

## AdBlue drains around Upper Langwith, and Derbyshire beyond

Upper Langwith is a residential suburb, and the teams that cover it also work the towns around it, Langwith Junction and Shirebrook among them, across the NG postcode area.

Fastest of all: quote a NG20 9 postcode to the van.

The car remains where it is.

A driveway, a lay-by on the way to Dean's Plantation, a side street close to Shirebrook Village Hall: our technicians drain it where it sits.

Awkward to explain, like the back of Kingsgate Centre? Close to a county line? Checking is better than guessing, and so phone.
