# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Upper Solva: How It Happens and How to Stop It

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your motor and the ignition off and phone 0333 366 0103.

Usually, if the motor hasn't turned, it's drained and thoroughly rinsed where the vehicle sits in Upper Solva.

Reading before the event? In that case the rest covers why it comes about and how to stop it happening at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel car: two tanks, two fillers

Not one fluid but two: that is how many modern diesels around Upper Solva and Nine Wells carry, with diesel feeding the engine.

Kept in a tank of its own, AdBlue is fed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

Each tank has its own filler.

Many of vehicles share a single flap for both, while some move the AdBlue filler to the boot or under the bonnet.

The diesel side is fuelled at the petrol pump all the time.

A driver who has to stop and think where it goes usually fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and much less commonly.

The error lives in that gap.

## How AdBlue in your diesel tank happens in Upper Solva

It is hardly ever carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

On a drive off Pwll Melyn before work, or in the car park at The Harbour Inn on the way home: that is where the rushed top-up happens. Why the rush? As AdBlue runs low the car tells you, and if it's gone, limp mode kicks in.

Then the vehicle is new. A hire car, a new motor or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and the hand reaches for the cap it would have used on the old one.

Nothing halts the tip once it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

Whether it occurs in Solva or the middle of Upper Solva, it's the same few seconds.

## The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart

A few seconds is all these take — so check them before you tip anything, on a driveway in Middle Mill or a forecourt in Upper Solva.

- Check the cap instead of going by where it sits: AdBlue ones are often blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones normally aren't.

- The size. On plenty of motors the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- Lift the flap and look for a label — many vehicles mark which belongs in each inlet right there.

- Can't see it beside the diesel filler? Then check beneath the bonnet or in your boot — the handbook will say where.

- The person who drove the car last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park at Haverfordwest, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank

Wherever in Pembrokeshire the light comes on, this is a routine for that day.

- Not in a rush on the side of Maes yr Eglwys, not on a slope, not with the engine running: park and switch off properly.

- Silly as it sounds, speaking "AdBlue" aloud while you unscrew the cap does the trick — once you have found the filler and read the cap.

- The two under a single flap? Then make sure the lid on your diesel side stays closed before raising the bottle.

- Pour slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Before you start your car, close the cap and check a second time that the diesel cap was never opened off.

If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into the diesel side, stop there.

Stage five is off limits.

## Upper Solva: already put AdBlue in your diesel tank?

What follows is a short order of things, beginning with no starting your engine.

Do not switch the ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of your tank, where the fuel is drawn from — so don't top up with diesel to thin it.

At a forecourt — Texaco, another forecourt nearby or any other — the staff will usually help push the vehicle away, when you ask.

At home in Upper Solva? Then the vehicle remains where it is.

If your engine has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

The next exit means the place to leave if you're on the M4, under 50 miles from Upper Solva.

Roughly how far did it go? Crossing Upper Solva is less work than a trip of under 3 miles towards St Davids, and so tell us.

## When we arrive around Upper Solva, what occurs?

Anywhere your car has stopped, be it by the local primary school, beside Solva Gribbin Fort or on your own drive, the van travels to it.

We ask what was put in, about how much, and if it has run, since those answers decide this work and the quote.

During the phone call itself, you hear our price — before dispatch.

Emptying that tank comes next, then a full flush of your system.

Much more than with petrol, it counts here: crystals form, certain metals corrode, and none of that washes away on its own, no matter how long it is left.

A test is at the end: before that, fresh diesel is added, and the fuel filter is flushed or replaced as needed.

We do not go until it has been started and is running properly.

Most jobs are finished in roughly half an hour after we arrive, as long as the motor has not run — and the pumps we use are fine on a busy forecourt and quiet at night outside a house.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

Misfuelling cover is part of plenty of insurance policies — and so make use of the wait to look at yours.
