# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Upper Studley: Why It Happens

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your motor and the ignition off and ring 0333 366 0103.

Usually, if the motor hasn't run, it is drained and fully cleaned where your car is around Upper Studley.

If you are reading before it has happened, the remainder of this page is about why it happens and how to make sure it doesn't.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel car need its own filler?

Many modern diesels on the roads around Upper Studley and Lower Studley carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to the motor.

Your exhaust, not your motor, is where AdBlue ends up: dosed into the fumes to fresh them, from its own tank.

Every tank has a filler of its own.

Other motors keep the AdBlue filler in the boot or under the bonnet; plenty more have the two together under one flap.

Topping up your diesel side at the petrol pump happens all the time.

Far less regularly, the AdBlue side gets topped up — normally from a bottle, by a person thinking about where it goes.

The error lives in that gap.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Upper Studley: how it happens

It's rarely carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

To start with, the warning. Low AdBlue brings a warning from your car, and letting it run dry leads to limp mode — so a rushed top-up, maybe before work off Whiterow Park, or at The Black Horse on the way home that evening.

The old car's filler is where your hand goes — yet a hire car, a new motor or a company car puts the fillers elsewhere. That is a second factor: an unfamiliar car.

And the bottle fits. A bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one, so nothing stops the tip after it has started.

Studley Green or the middle of Upper Studley: it takes the same few seconds either way.

## The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart

Be it a Upper Studley forecourt or a drive over in Longfield, take a couple of seconds on these before anything goes in.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally isn't. Read it instead of going by where it sits.

- Plenty of motors give AdBlue the smaller neck of the two.

- Check inside the fuel flap: many motors carry a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- The handbook says where it is when your filler isn't next to your diesel cap: your boot, or under the bonnet.

- Ask the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — when you pick up a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park at Trowbridge.

## Keeping AdBlue out of the diesel tank when you top up

Wherever around Wiltshire the light comes on, here is a routine for that day.

- Switch off once parked — flat ground, motor stopped, and never rushed by Frome Road at the roadside.

- Find the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and say the word "AdBlue" out loud as unscrewing it. It seems daft. It does the trick.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Finish when that tank fills or the bottle runs dry; before that, pour gently using its built-in spout.

- Close the cap, and check again — making sure your diesel cap stayed shut the whole time. Only then, start the car.

Find at stage two or three that it has already gone into your diesel side? Then stop right there.

Skip stage five entirely.

## Already put AdBlue in your diesel tank in Upper Studley?

Short order, then. First: your engine remains off.

Don't switch your ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

Filling up with diesel won't thin it: rather than mixing, AdBlue drops to the base of that tank, right where the fuel is drawn from.

If you are on a forecourt, whether it's the Applegreen or the Tesco, ask the attendants to help push the vehicle clear of the petrol pump.

## Our arrival around Upper Studley, and what happens next

By Studley Green Primary School, close to St John the Evangelist or on your own driveway: wherever the car has stopped, our engineers come to it.

Both the work and the price depend on three answers — what fluid, what quantity, and if it's run — so our technicians ask.

During the phone call itself, you hear the price — ahead of dispatch.

Then your tank is drained and the system purged thoroughly.

With AdBlue that matters more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own.

The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the car is tested.

After that our technicians fire it up and check it runs properly before leaving.

Most jobs are finished in about half an hour once our engineers get there, provided the motor hasn't run — and the pumps our technicians use are safe on a live forecourt yet quiet after dark beside a house.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.
