# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Ventongimps? Don't Start It

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition stays off and so does the motor.

Water with urea dissolved in it: that is AdBlue.

The trouble begins once it's pulled through the pump — it will not ignite, and it will not blend with diesel.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is around Ventongimps, is normally all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it is caught before your engine has been run.

Phone 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank around Ventongimps

To do:

- So nobody can turn the ignition on, pull your keys out.

- Put the hazard lights on if you are at all close to moving traffic.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the fluid and the amount, so do not bin it out.

- The van locates you fastest with a postcode starting TR4 9, or simply the name of a street close by, and so call from the spot.

Things not to do:

- Do not start the engine, even for a moment to move the vehicle.

- Your ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, switching it on is enough to start your fuel pump.

- No more fuel on top. The AdBlue won't mix, and so it's pointless.

- Never drive the car anywhere, not even a short way down A3075.

- Don't try to drain it yourself at the kerbside.

On a forecourt in Ventongimps, whether it is the Texaco or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the car away from the petrol pump.

If you are on your own drive, leave the car exactly where it stands.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

Not the engine but the exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it is fed into your exhaust, where it treats the fumes.

No part in an injection pump is designed for this liquid — and none of that was intended to go through one.

Fuel mixes; AdBlue, after poured in, will not. The behaviour is not at all like fuel's.

The pickup sucks fuel from the deepest part of that tank, and that's just where AdBlue ends up: being denser than diesel, it sinks.

Easiest of all: one that got AdBlue in Callestick overnight and hasn't been started since. The AdBlue waits at the base of that tank, undrawn — but it will be first through once the motor runs, before any diesel at all.

It does two kinds of damage from there.

What remains when the water goes is urea, which forms crystals: they settle in narrow passages and clog filters. Worse, it attacks some metals in the fuel system, and carries on until it is cleared out.

Overnight, a car sitting in Ventongimps with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; where it is just inside your tank, it doesn't.

Then there is the water: it offers no protection to the components that need it the most — the injection pump and each injector.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel often the bigger issue?

Petrol pumped into a diesel on another forecourt nearby's forecourt leaves the fuel thin — that's the whole fault.

Mixed through the diesel and left still, it is harmless for now; running the engine is the harm.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid as such is plainly the wrong one.

It can't simply be run through, since it does not burn.

Deposits and corrosion stay through the following tankful, and AdBlue splits back from the diesel, so watering it can't help. Hence the flush counts more, and turning the key "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other slip — in Perranwell or the centre of Ventongimps alike.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

If the engine has not run, the AdBlue is still in the tank, and that tank is the quickest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever in Cornwall the vehicle is sitting.

## Ventongimps: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Plenty of motors place the AdBlue filler beside the diesel cap, now and then under one flap, and after dark the two may look identical. Nobody means it.

It mostly takes place at home, from a bottle bought on the journey home, not at the forecourt.

Usually, it takes place in one of a couple of familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside Goonhavern Primary School.

Someone pours the bottle in at home, just off Cocks Hill, as the day ends.

Else, after dark outside White House Inn, the car is refilled by someone opening that flap the first time.

Rented cars, new cars, company cars, or the second car in a family with one of each: the least known vehicles get it most.

Wherever you are in Ventongimps or the remainder of Cornwall, it is the same error and the same first answer: leave the car off.

## Already started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank in Ventongimps?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

With any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, after passing via the fuel filter and pipework.

Rough running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or stalling: any might appear, perhaps midway across Ventongimps or coming back from Eustace's Plantation.

Stop when safe. Switch off. Keep the car off rather than restarting it to check.

With each start, more of it is pulled through.

Leave the M5, over 50 miles from Ventongimps, at the next junction and stop somewhere safe, rather than driving on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Ventongimps to the car park by Batter's Shaft is a very different job from a run towards Truro, under 5 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with each mile.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

There is more to flush once the motor has been started, and we do all of it where the car has stopped.

Very seldom does it leave lasting damage if it is noticed early.

## What draining AdBlue from a diesel involves in Ventongimps

Wherever it has come to rest in Ventongimps — a filling station, a layby, a drive, a road by Caer Dane — the van comes to the vehicle.

Before anything else our technicians ask what was put in, about how much, and if your engine has run, because those replies determine this work.

The contaminated diesel and the urea leave as one after the tank is emptied, right there.

Residue from AdBlue won't flush away by itself, so the whole system gets a careful flush, which matters much more with urea than with petrol.

Testing your vehicle comes at the end, after fresh diesel is added and the filter gets cleaned or, where needed, swapped.

Engine not run? Then count on roughly half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

The equipment is explosion-proof, and so a busy filling station is no problem, and it's hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

Last, the system is bled with clean diesel.

At that point our technicians fire it up and you head off, whether from a parking bay outside Truro or a driveway around Ventongimps.

We check it runs correctly on clean diesel before we go.

No workshop is needed at any stage, with the whole job done on the spot.

Your insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and your VAT invoice — each handed over once this job is done.

## Ventongimps and Cornwall: AdBlue drains across the area

Carnkief, Wheal Frances and Perranzabuloe are among the places near Ventongimps that the same vans serve, along with much of Cornwall further out, throughout the TR postcode area.

If you're close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to explain, ring and ask instead of assuming.

Ventongimps is a coastal area, and an on-site drain suits it: whether your car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our technicians drain it where it stands, so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Ventongimps?

Every job differs, and so no fixed quote is fair.

The cost moves first with how long, if at all, the motor has been running, and next with the amount of AdBlue that got in. After that it depends on where the car is and whether a technician can get to it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight spot behind Caer Kief.

What was put in, how much, plus if it ran: each Ventongimps call begins by asking exactly those, before any quote, not after.

Once those are answered, a range turns into a single firm number.

Before a van sets off, you are told the quote on the phone. Then payment is on the day, card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Look at your insurance while we are on the way: many include misfuelling cover.

## Still beside the vehicle around Ventongimps?

Then, the best thing to do with your vehicle is to not touch it.

Ignition off, motor off, keys out.

Say it was AdBlue, about what quantity, and if the engine ran, on 0333 366 0103. From there Petrol in Diesel takes over, in Ventongimps or wherever in Cornwall.
