# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Wales Bar: Why It Happens

AdBlue already in the diesel tank? Then put this page aside for now, leave your ignition and motor off, then call 0333 366 0103.

Around Wales Bar, finding it before the motor runs normally means a drain and a thorough flush on the spot.

Not happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page covers the reasons it occurs and the ways to avoid it altogether.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel car need its own filler?

Many newer diesels around Aston, as well as Wales Bar, run on two fluids; the engine gets only your diesel.

AdBlue's own tank holds it, and from there it goes to the exhaust, and there spraying cleans the fumes.

Each tank has its own filler.

Many of cars share a single flap for both, whereas some move the AdBlue filler to the boot or under the bonnet.

Filling your diesel side at the pump happens all the time.

A driver who has to stop and work out where it goes usually tops up the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less often.

The mistake grows in the gap between them.

## Wales Bar: how AdBlue in your diesel tank happens

Three things tend to line up, and carelessness is seldom one of them.

Haste follows from the warning. Your car tells you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank sends it into limp mode — so the top-up gets done quickly, before work on a driveway off Waleswood Way, or on the way home in the car park outside The Duke of Leeds.

Then the vehicle is new. A hire car, a new car or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and your hand reaches for the cap it would have used on the old one.

A spouted bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. And so the tip, once begun, carries on.

The same few seconds decide it, in the middle of Wales Bar or out in Wales.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Be it a Wales Bar forecourt or a drive over in Netherthorpe, take a few seconds on these before anything is poured in.

- Read the cap rather than going by position: AdBlue caps are frequently blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones usually aren't.

- Many vehicles fit AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- The flap. Look inside your fuel flap for a label. Many cars say there which fuel goes where.

- The handbook. If your filler isn't by your diesel cap, it is in your boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- Picking up a hire or company car, say at the car park at Kiveton Bridge? Ask whoever drove the car last before leaving, not when the light goes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching your diesel tank

The day the light comes on, anywhere in South Yorkshire, use this routine.

- Turn off once parked — flat ground, engine off, and not rushed beside Mansfield Road on the verge.

- Find the AdBlue filler, check the cap, and speak the name "AdBlue" out loud while unscrewing it. It sounds silly. It does the trick.

- The diesel cap remains on. Where the two sit under a flap, confirm it is closed before the bottle comes up.

- Finish when your tank fills or the bottle runs dry; until then, pour slowly using the own spout.

- Only after that, start the car: close the cap, check once more, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

Stop there if you find, at step two or three, that you've already poured into the diesel side.

Step five stays off limits.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank already, around Wales Bar?

Then the order of things is short. Do not start your motor.

On plenty of diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, so do not switch the vehicle on.

Don't top up with diesel to dilute it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is sucked from.

On a forecourt — BP, Gulf or another — the attendants will normally help push your car clear, if you ask.

Leave it where it is if you are on your own drive around Wales Bar.

Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, if the motor has already run.

The next exit means where to leave when you are on the M1, under a mile from Wales Bar.

Tell us roughly how far it went: a run towards Sheffield, under 10 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across Wales Bar.

## Wales Bar: what takes place when we turn up

Anywhere your car has stopped, be it by Wales Primary School, near Gulliver's Valley Resort or at home, our van comes to it.

Our technicians ask what went in, roughly how much, and if it has run, because those replies determine the work and our quote.

Nobody sets off before you've heard our quote by phone.

After that: draining, then a full flush of the whole system.

Much more than with petrol, it counts here: the crystals build up, certain metals corrode, and nothing clears away unaided, no matter how long it sits.

Filter cleaned or, if needed, swapped; clean diesel in; then a test of your car.

Your engine is started next and checked to be sure it runs smoothly, all before our engineers leave.

Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour once our technicians arrive, provided the motor has not run — and the pumps our technicians use are safe on a busy forecourt and quiet after dark beside a house.

Nothing upfront; you settle up on the day. At the end, the VAT invoice and a report from the engineer are handed to you for the insurer.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, so it's worth checking yours whilst we're on the way.
