# Avoiding AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in West End: Why It Occurs

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your motor and your ignition off and ring 0333 366 0103.

Usually, if your engine hasn't turned, it is drained and fully cleaned where your car sits around West End.

If you are reading before it has happened, the rest of this page is about why it occurs and how to make sure it doesn't.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor, and its separate tank

Diesel feeds your engine — yet plenty of current diesels seen round West End and East End hold a second fluid as well.

AdBlue's own tank holds it, and from there it goes to the exhaust, where a spray treats the fumes.

Each tank has its own filler.

Other cars put the AdBlue filler in the boot or under the bonnet; a lot more place the two side by side behind one flap.

Filling your diesel side at the pump goes on all the time.

Someone who has to stop and think where it goes normally fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less commonly.

It is in that gap that the slip happens.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank takes place in West End

Carelessness seldom explains it. What does is three things lining up at once.

On a driveway off Willow Springs before work, or in the car park at The Swan on the way home: that is where the hurried top-up happens. What is the reason for the rush? As AdBlue gets low your car warns you, and if it is gone, limp mode follows.

Next, your hand goes for the cap it knew on the old vehicle — since a rental car, a new vehicle or a company car places the fillers somewhere your last one didn't.

A spout-topped bottle meets no resistance at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. And so the pour, after started, carries on.

It's seconds, be it in Tartlett End or bang in the heart of West End.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Look at these first, at a forecourt in West End or a driveway over in Broad Green. Seconds, that's all.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is regularly blue, or marked "AdBlue". The diesel cap normally isn't. Read it instead of going by where it sits.

- Many motors give AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- The flap. Look inside your fuel flap for a label. Plenty of vehicles say there which fuel goes where.

- The handbook shows where it is when the filler isn't next to your diesel cap: your boot, or under the bonnet.

- Picking up a hire or company car, perhaps at the car park outside Lidlington? Check with whoever drove the car last before you set off, not once the light comes on.

## Keeping AdBlue out of your diesel tank when you top up

On the day the light comes on — wherever you are across Bedfordshire — a routine to use.

- Not in a rush on the side of High Street, not on a slope, not with your motor running: park and switch off properly.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it does the trick.

- If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — and leave the car on.

- Using the bottle's own spout, tip slowly — and stop when it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Before starting the vehicle, shut the cap and check again that your diesel cap was never came off.

If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into the diesel side, stop there.

Never go on to stage five.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank already, in West End?

The short order of things, beginning with not starting the engine.

Leave the ignition off too, because on plenty of diesels switching it on alone starts your pump.

Don't top up with diesel to dilute it: AdBlue does not mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of your tank, where the fuel is sucked from.

The staff at Gulf, Essar or any forecourt will usually help to push the vehicle away if you ask.

On your own drive around West End? So the vehicle stays where it is.

Where your motor has run already, stop somewhere safe then turn it off.

Leave the M1 — under 3 miles out of West End — at the next junction.

Tell us about how far it went: a run towards Milton Keynes, under 10 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across West End.

## What happens when our engineers turn up in West End

By Cranfield Church of England Academy, near Cranfield Methodist Church or on your own drive: wherever the car has stopped, we come to it.

Both the work and our price depend on three replies — what liquid, what amount, and if it's run — so we ask.

On the call itself, you hear the price — before anything else.

Emptying that tank comes next, followed by a full flush of the fuel system.

Much more than with petrol, it counts here: crystals build up, some metals are attacked, and none of it washes away on its own, no matter how long it sits.

Testing comes last: before that, clean diesel is added, and your filter is cleaned or replaced if necessary.

We do not go until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.

Unstarted vehicles usually mean a half-hour visit after the moment we arrive. The equipment is fine on a live forecourt, and hushed enough for a driveway after dark.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

Wrong-fuel cover is included in plenty of insurance policies — and so make use of the wait to look at yours.

## AdBlue drains round West End, and Bedfordshire beyond

West End is a residential suburb, and our vans that cover it also work the places around it, Cranfield and Wharley End among them, across the MK postcode area.

A postcode starting MK43 0 gets the van to you fastest.

Your car remains where it is.

A drive, a lay-by on the way to Cranfield Millennium Park, a side street close to Cranfield Community Centre: we drain the vehicle where it stands.

Tricky to explain, like the back of St Peter and St Paul? Close to a border? Checking is better than guessing, so ring.

## For West End motorists, the short version

Before you pour, read the cap.
