# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Westfield: Why It Occurs

Leave your engine and ignition off and phone 0333 366 0103 now — reading can wait when AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

Caught before your engine runs, it's generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Westfield.

Not happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page covers the reasons it happens and the ways to avoid it for good.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel vehicle

Plenty of newer diesels around Thorpe Wood, as well as Westfield, carry on two liquids; the motor takes only your diesel.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it goes to your exhaust, and there a spray treats the fumes.

Different tanks, separate fillers.

Many of vehicles have a single flap for the two, while some put the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet.

Diesel goes in on each filling station visit, again and again.

Someone who has to stop and think where it goes normally fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less regularly.

The slip lives in that gap.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Westfield: how it takes place

It is hardly ever carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low your car tells you, and if it runs out altogether, your vehicle drops into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off Portholme Road before work, or in the car park at Abbey Vaults on the way home.

Then your car is unfamiliar. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and your hand gets to for the cap it would have used on the old one.

No part halts the pour once it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as readily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

It takes seconds, whether out in Selby or bang in the heart of Westfield.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

Check these before pouring, on a forecourt in Westfield or a driveway over in Barlby. A few seconds, no more.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is often blue, or marked "AdBlue". The diesel cap normally is not. Read it rather than going by position.

- Plenty of cars give AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- Open the filler flap and check for a label — plenty of motors show which goes in each filler just there.

- The handbook. If the filler is not by the diesel cap, it's in your boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- Picking up a hire or company car, perhaps at the car park outside Selby? Ask whoever drove it last before leaving, rather than once the light comes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching your diesel tank

On the day the warning appears — wherever you are around North Yorkshire — a routine to follow.

- Not in a rush on the side of New Lane, not on a slope, not with the engine running: park and switch off properly.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it works.

- The diesel cap remains on. When the two sit under a flap, confirm it is shut before lifting the bottle.

- Pour slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it's full or when the bottle is empty.

- Only after that, start the vehicle: close the cap, check once more, and make sure the diesel cap was never opened.

Find at step two or three that it's already gone into the diesel side? So stop just there.

Skip step five entirely.

## Put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Westfield already?

Then the order of things is short. Do not start your motor.

Keep your ignition off as well, since on many diesels it by itself starts your fuel pump.

Topping up with diesel will not dilute it: instead, AdBlue sinks to the bottom of that tank, just where the fuel is taken from.

On a forecourt — BP, JET or another — the staff will usually help roll your car away, when you ask.

If you are on your own drive in Westfield, leave the car where it sits.

Already run? Stop once it is sensible, then turn off.

The next junction means the place to come off if you are on the M62, under 10 miles from Westfield.

About how far did it go? Crossing Westfield is smaller a job than a trip of under 15 miles to York, so tell us.

## Westfield: what happens when our technicians arrive

Anywhere the vehicle came to rest, whether outside Selby Abbey Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, near St James or at home, our van comes to it.

Our engineers ask what went in, roughly how much, and whether it's run, because those replies decide this work and the quote.

During the phone call itself, you hear our quote — ahead of dispatch.

Then your tank is drained and the system rinsed thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not wash out on its own — which is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol.

A test is at the end: before that, clean diesel is added, and your filter is flushed or changed if necessary.

We do not leave until it has been fired up and is running correctly.

If the engine hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once we are there, using pumps that are safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house after dark.

Paying is on the day, not upfront, and you receive the documents your insurer wants: an engineer's report and a VAT invoice.

Wrong-fuel cover is part of plenty of insurance policies — so use the wait to look at yours.

## AdBlue drains in Westfield and across North Yorkshire

East Common and Brayton are among the places near Westfield, a residential suburb, that the same teams cover, over YO postcodes.

Fastest of all: quote a YO8 4 postcode for our van.

There's no need to move the vehicle.

Our engineers drain it where it is — a side street near Selby Methodist Church, a lay-by on the way to The Bowling Green, a driveway.

Assuming won't help behind Community House, on a border, or anywhere awkward to pin down; ring and check.

## The short version for Westfield drivers

Always, the cap; then, the pour.

Even so AdBlue in the diesel tank? Petrol in Diesel will drain it where it stands, wherever across North Yorkshire: switch the car off then call 0333 366 0103.
