# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Whelley? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has got into the diesel tank, keep your motor off and leave your ignition off.

Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is.

The trouble starts once it's sucked through your lines — it won't burn, and it won't blend with diesel.

If the engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally emptied and carefully rinsed where the car stands around Whelley.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Whelley: the first few minutes

Things to do:

- Keys out — that way no one can switch anything on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all near.

- So you can give us which fluid it was and roughly how much, keep the receipt or the empty bottle.

- Our van locates you fastest with a postcode starting WN1 3, or just the name of a street close by, so call from the spot.

Not to do:

- No starting the motor — not for a second, not to reposition the vehicle.

- Don't switch the ignition on. On plenty of diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding more fuel won't weaken it.

- Even a short stretch up Whelley is too far to drive the car.

- Beside the road, do not try emptying it on your own.

On a forecourt in Whelley, whether it's the BP or another one, ask the staff to help you roll the vehicle away from the petrol pump.

On that drive, the vehicle stays just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

Meant for your exhaust, AdBlue has no place in your motor.

Stored in a dedicated tank, it is squirted into the exhaust stream to clean the gases.

A fuel pump is not designed to cope with it, and AdBlue was never intended to travel through one.

It doesn't combine. After it's tipped into the tank, AdBlue behaves nothing like diesel.

Denser than diesel, it sinks and pools below it — the very spot the pickup draws from.

The first thing the system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Scholes last night, and has not been started since, is still the simple case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has sucked it in.

Two kinds of damage come from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps labouring on the parts it gets to for as long as it stays there.

If the AdBlue has reached the pipework, waiting overnight around Whelley makes things worse. In your tank only, time costs nothing.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water part harms them in its own right.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's regularly worse than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the Tesco and you have an issue of thin fuel.

No harm is done as long as it sits put, mixed into your diesel — only once the engine runs on it.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally unsuitable substance.

It can't simply be run through, because it doesn't burn.

Deposits and corrosion remain after the following tankful, and AdBlue separates back out of your diesel, and so watering it can't work. That is why the flush counts more, and turning your key "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than almost any other slip — in Rose Bridge or the heart of Whelley alike.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Emptying a tank is the simplest part on any fuel system, and with no running, the AdBlue remains in it — anywhere in Greater Manchester your car has stopped.

## Whelley: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Many cars place the AdBlue filler beside the diesel one, occasionally behind one flap, and after dark the two can look identical. No one means it.

A container bought when heading home and poured in at home, instead of at the filling station, is the usual story.

Usually, it takes place in one of a few familiar ways.

Rushing, outside Canon Sharples Church of England Primary School and Nursery, after a warning light came on during the school run, someone tops up the car.

Close to St Stephen's Avenue, someone pours a bottle in at home in the evening.

Or a driver unfamiliar with that flap refills the car after dark, stopped in the car park outside White Lion & Railway.

The least known cars see it the most — hire cars, brand-new cars, company cars, and the spare motor of a family with one of each fuels.

Wherever in Greater Manchester, Whelley as well, the slip doesn't change, and nor does the first response: keep it switched off.

## Whelley: started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

Your filter and pipework have had it sucked through, and any running time carries it on to the injection pump and every injector.

Perhaps returning from Platt Lane Play Area, or midway across Whelley, the motor may go rough, smoke, lose pace, flash your dash or cut out.

Stop when it is safe. Turn off. Leave the car off rather than restarting it to check.

Every start pulls more of it through.

If you were on the M61, under 5 miles from Whelley, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere safe rather than pressing on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in. That is why crossing Whelley to park near St Stephen and a drive of under 15 miles towards Salford are very distinct jobs.

Tell us about how far it had come.

There's more to clean out once the engine has been run, and our engineers do all of it where the car has stopped.

Very seldom does it leave long-term damage if it's spotted early.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel in Whelley: what it takes

The vehicle stays where it is, whether that is a street beside Grace Fountain Church with Crossroads Trinity Bible College & Theological Seminary, a drive, a layby or a filling station in Whelley, and our van travels to it.

What got in, roughly the quantity, and whether your engine has been run: our engineers check before all else, because those shape the work.

The contaminated diesel and the urea come out together after that tank is emptied, right there.

A careful flush counts much more with AdBlue than with petrol, because what remains won't wash out by itself.

A test of your car comes at the end, after clean diesel is added and your filter is cleaned or, where needed, replaced.

If the motor hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once we are there.

Explosion-proof pumps make a live forecourt sensible to work on, and they're quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

Bleeding the system with clean diesel comes at the end.

You head off as soon as our engineers have started it, and it makes no difference whether the car is on a driveway around Whelley or in a space outside Wigan Wallgate.

It's tested on clean diesel to make sure it runs correctly before our technicians go.

The entire job is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and you get both afterwards.

Whelley sits at an elevation of 67 metres, approximately 14 miles from Salford and 175 miles from London. ## Whelley and Greater Manchester: AdBlue drains across the area

Our vans that answer AdBlue jobs in Whelley also cover the places around it, Bottling Wood, Longshoot and Water Heyes among them, and most of Greater Manchester beyond, across the WN postcode area.

Assuming doesn't help close to a county line or somewhere tricky to pin down; ring and ask.

Whelley is a residential suburb, and an on-site drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our technicians drain it where it sits, so it never needs to be moved to us.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Whelley

There is no fair single quote, because the jobs aren't the same.

What shifts the price is, first, whether the engine has run and for how long; then how much AdBlue got in; and then where the car is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight gap behind George Formby Plaque.

That's why each call from Whelley starts with the same three queries, asked before giving a figure, not after: what went in, how much, and if it's run.

Once those are answered, a range becomes a single fixed number.

The price is given during the call, before anyone sets off; payment happens on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## Whelley: still alongside the car?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to the vehicle.

Keys out, engine off, ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103 and tell us it is AdBlue, about how much, and whether it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Whelley or anywhere in Greater Manchester.
